The exterior of the hotel is very simple but the inside is completely original in décor & design and truly remarkable. We stayed in room 503 which had fantastic views of the canal and boats below. The bed was fluffy with down comforters and tasteful accent pillows. The bathroom had a small but contemporary bathtub and shower and top of the line Bvlgari Eau Parfumée Au Thé Vert toiletries. We walked around town and saw the old lighthouse (Room 47) and then climbed up 418 stairs to the Aksla viewpoint for a magical and panoramic view of Alesund below. We ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Maki and had the friendliest waitress and the freshest salmon ever! We also had after dinner drinks in the comfortable yet modern bar area. We wish we would have spent more than 1 night at Hotel Brosundet.

This excellent hotel is right in the heart of the best part of the city and directly on the original fishing boat harbor. There is no possible better location - walking distance to everything. Moreover the hotel is an interior designer masterpiece incorporating ancient wooden columns and beams into an ultra-modern decor. It is imperative, however, to get a top category room right on the water or your experience will likely be completely different than ours. Another guest evidently on the street side just considered the place "dark" - which the hallways certainly are. On the water side you can throw open the large windows and watch the boats come and go directly below. We had a virtual boat parade on the evening of the feast of St. Hans. Alesund's a great town.

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Brosundet for two nites in April 2009. The room was beautiful. It was not overly big, but each square foot of the room was tastefully decorated. It is a designated historic hotel - (http://www.dehistoriske.no/) - keeping some raw exposed wood touches, but other amenities (ie:bathroom) were quite modernized. We stayed in a junior suite, allowing for a bathtub and a view of the water. Word to the wise, with the 'water view' you will be facing the main city channel, not the island coastline. The staff was very friendly, breakfast decent. The lobby was welcoming - with a warm fire roaring most of the time. There is an attached restaurant and bar. Some of the clientele were rather high end (suits, etc) . . . . but the staff never made us feel unwelcome (as leisure outdoors type travelers).

We had an amazing stay at the Brosundet Gjestehus. It was raining when
we arrived in Alesund and upon arrival, we were greeted by extremely kind staff and an offer of a hot bowl of fish soup and freshly baked bread. What a dream! The breakfasts were fantastic as well. Our bathroom and especially shower were a bit small but the views onto the
canal were fantastic (FYI - this hotel is featured in that Mastercard commercial where the guy and his dad are visiting Norway...you see the
hotel when they're in the rowboad...then they find out they're Swedish!). They also had a very funky lounge overlooking the street. Overall, a great stay!

We stated here for 4 nights in August, and I would recommend this hotel. It is a converted fish factory with interesting rooms, exposed beams and a good modern design vibe. The breakfasts in a small dining room overlooking the water, are good and the home-baked bread is wonderful. There is no restaurant but there is a bar. Our deluxe room was large and comfortable if a bit sparten in the furnishings which seems the norm in Norway. Alesund was great - we preferred it to Bergen as the scenery was breathtaking and the town seemed to have a laid back welcoming feel. Lots of good exzcursions from here.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Brosundet Gjestehus. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was nice, and the breakfast was very good. Our only "problem" was leaving our windows open the first night and being awakened very early by noisy birds outside our window. Shutting the windows at night solved that "problem". Alesund is very easy to walk around. We took the "coastal steamer" to Geiranger for the day which was a great trip.
