We had high expectations of this hotel as a result of the hotel website and the reviews on tripadvisor. Sadly we found it just a little disappointing - maybe we were just unlucky. We had three nights stay at the Brosundet Hotel. It is in a stunning location and decorated very beautifully throughout. The room we had was pretty small (I think this is what people mean by cosy) but we had a gorgeous water-way view. The emphasis seems to be on style rather than practicality. The shower was fantastic (when there was hot water) but there was no seal on the shower room door so the entire bathroom was flooded- utterly impractical as there is no drain in the main part of the bathroom. An exposed beam in the bedroom, whilst attractive, was a real danger if you were over 5ft 9. The Bulgari toiletries were very nice. The kettle was a welcome addition too- there was a good selection of teas and coffees and chocolates. As with many old buildings in Scandanvia there is no air conditioning and therefore it is very hot indeed in the summer. Having the windows open makes the room very noisy as the hotel is diagonally opposite a popular bar. The breakfast was ok but considering the room rate we expected higher quality and most definitely fresh coffee and fresh juices. The lack of hot water for one whole day (we eventually got a shower at 11pm) was dealt with as efficiently as they could manage and they offered, without request, to refund one nights stay which we felt was fair in the circumstances. The free wifi was fast. We would recommend buying the most expensive room you can afford so that you have more space. We would recommend this hotel to friends but with reservations.

As enter into Alesund it is easy to spot the Brosundet across the harbor. Once you get inside the huge historic timbers in the lobby with a cozy fireplace take you to a serene place. Once you get to your room, what view looking into the harbor. You can throw out your fishing line if you like. Rooms are very cozy but comfortable. Very bright and clean. The breakfast is not to be missed...

we were lucky to have a room with view on the river and the yaughts, it was beautiful. the room was very modern but also cozy and warm.
breakfast was ok, but without much variety of choices considering the cost.
we haven't tried the food of the restaurant but we've heard that it is really good. some other time hopefully! :)

We stayed at Brosundet Hotel on 6 July 2010. The staff was very friendly. Thomas at the front desk was exceptionally helpful when I needed help with my luggage locker. They even lent me a laptop with free internet. It's definitely worth paying extra to have rooms with the view. The breakfast was really good too. Definitely consider this hotel if you are in Alesund.

This is by far the best hotel in Ålesund and absoluttely one of the better hotels on Norway. I travel around the country a lot and have stayed many places. Brosundet is a modern hotel built into a historic property. Old and new very well combined. Most of the rooms are different and the ones I have stayed in are all great. Try and get a room towards the water. They say you can fish from your bedroom window. The service is also very good and the restaurant downstairs is the best on Ålesund. Very good seafood. If you really want to experience something amasyng I have neem told you can rent a room in a lighthouse not far from this hotel. The staff will bring you breakfast. It is really something special. All in all I would say Brosundet offers you everything you need. Comfort, qulity, great surrondings and the best location. It is a great base when wanting to explore the northern part of Fjord Norway and wanting to see the famous Geirangerfjord. I only stay here when visiting Ålesund! So should you!

Beautifull! The rooms are designed with care and innovation. We had a great stay and had a great meal in Maki restaurant (although I have had better seafood in Ålesund). Our only complaint is that the restaurant was slow in responding to our request that they quiet down our neighbours, who had a party until 5 am.
