Owner description: Visit the open-air museum with its vast collection of old houses. Enjoy a stroll between the picturesque houses and the indoor exhibitions, and get an insight into the cultural and architectural history of Sunnmore. Sunnmore Museum is a beautiful open air museum with 55 old and distinct houses. While walking in between these houses you feel as if you are put back in time, and you will see how people lived in earlier times. On Wednesdays during summer, there are a lot of activities going on at the museum. In the main building the fascinating exhibitions on archaeology and culture in the Sunnmore region will provide you with a unique insight into the life of the people who have inhabited this area for several thousand years. Take a look at the museum's vast boat collection too, including replicas of Viking ships. The beautiful area surrounding the museum is also excellent for walks.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Stairs / lift, Food available for purchase

We rode the hop on/ hop off bus to the museum when we were on a cruise in early June. The outdoor museum was very interesting! We stayed there at least two hours! The admission price was very reasonable and we were so glad we went.

We enjoyed the collection of Norway houses and boats from the 1700s to 1800s. It is a beautiful setting. We arrived late in the day so we didn't have to pay but there was not much going on.

A understated gem. Homes, boats, farms, and a church bring an 18th and 19th century way of life for you to visit on our own.

My spouse and I visited this museum while we cruised Norway. It was very easy to get to from the port, the bus stop was right there. We came before they were officially opened so we could take photos without all other visitors in them. When the visitors office opened we got the tickets and the map of the place and continued our visit. You see many buildings that portrait how people of Norway lived there many years ago, there is also a very nice display of the Viking boats. There is a nice shop there as well.

The fact that we visited in March is the only thing that's preventing me from giving the Open Air Museum a top rating. Some of the exhibits were closed, and most of the boats were out of the water. But, it was still an interesting visit ... and the beautiful setting and conditions were ideal for some prize-winning (I hope!!) photography
