Wonderful view of Alesund and all around the area from the top. It is about 400 steps up from town (or there is a road around back). A bit strenuous, but worth the effort. Additional hiking opportunities once you are on top. Also some old German WW2 bunkers (now overgrown). Actually did this twice in the 1 day here.

Don't miss out the Aksla viewpoint in Alesund. It offers panoramic view of the archipelago and the beautiful town below. Instead of taking the sightseeing tram, we walked up 418 steps. It was not a difficult walk.

We climbed the 418 steps up Aksla for the magnificent view of islands, moutains and fjords.
The view from the top is gorgeous and you can see all the art nouveau architecture. But those 418 steps are tough, especially on a rainy day. We found a path down instead of retaking those slippery steps.

Interesting if you add Fjellstua with it's splenid view. If you want to go jogging it is possibly the nicest track.

Easy to walk around. Not at all touristy. Pretty "Art Nouveau" buildings. We walked up the 418 steps to the top of Aksla Hill. Great views from the top and there is a cafe and a viewing platform. Plenty of seats for a rest on the way up. You can get the tourist train or a cab to the top and walk down. There were no public toilets that we could find anywhere in the town -- very poor for a cruise port. You even had to pay to use the loo in the Tourist Information. We departed at 17.00 with a bank of speakers on the dockside blasting out Vera Lynn's "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when" -- a really nice send off by the town.
