The town park marks the start of the path and the base of the 418 steps leading to the top of Mount Aksla. Near the base of the steps is a statue of Gange-Rolv who is better known as the Viking Rollo who became the first Duke of Normandy. We had to find the statue as we are fans of the Vikings television series.

I was completely overwhelmed by the beauty of this incredible town. The waters are gorgeous surrounded by some really neat buildings that I'm sure have lots of history in them by the age of them.

The walk up seemed easier and quicker than I remembered it from my last visit in summer many years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised to note that they've added markings every 50 steps or so to let you know how far you've come...so you always know how far to go!
It wasn't a good day weather-wise at all, but for a few moments the clouds parted to show at least a glimpse of blue sky...albeit only in one small area...but it didn't detract from the views, which are absolutely amazing from every angle, and every point on the way up and at the top.
Nothing beats these picture-postcard views!

We had photographs taken of us with this delightful view in the background. A must stop in this wonderful city.

We walked up the 418+ steps to the top. We are in our mid 60s and it was just fine although we did have to stop once to rest and also take some pictures. The view is amazing and well worth the trip. There is a nice snack shop (and at night it looks like it would be a beautiful dinner destination) at the top. A must do in this beautiful city.
