I wanted to write "little church", but I realized that in Norway it might be considered a big one. Still, it does not dominate the landscape - the primary school does. To appreciate it you must enter it - Scottish-type stone exterior (while quite unusual here) does not bring a particular added value.
This church is much loved and much used by the people of Ålesund.
Fishing is at the heart of this town of 50 thousand and the stained glass reflects the life of the town.
On Saturday afternoon there were three weddings.
The organ is magnificent ( but to hear it you have to stay for the wedding as the doors are locked to keep casual visitors out, very fair in my estimation )
With a group of friends we dicided to visit the Ålesund Church, to update ourselves. This church is very well worth the visit. But, mainly open in the summer midday.
This is one of many fine churches in this area.
During the Cruise ship season it is normally open.
Well worth a visit - great design & also the Glass windows from Kaiser Wilhelm after the rebuild from the Ålesund fire in 1904.
Was very fortunate to be there for the attendance for a memorial for the fallen veterans of Norway and a wonderful Church Service on Sunday morning
