The views are worth the steps up... The steps are not bad, though there is a "train" you can take up if you need to. We went on a clear day and you could really get an appreciation of the views in every direction. I'm not sure if it would be worth it on a rainy day.

The steps are not as vertical as they appear from a distance, either go straight up or stop every so often at the benches. The view from the top is fabulous, somewhat tempered by all the buses arriving on the road to clog up the terrace. Don't be tempted to grab a drink on the outside terrace, go down the steps and into the self-service restaurant/cafe for posh toilets and (relatively) cheap coffee. Sit in the window for the panoramic view. Just don't buy a beer as they are UK£10-£15 for 33cl.

The walk down can be worse that going up as you can see the drop.

Because of an older member in our group, we took a taxi up and walked down. Super place to view the town and surroundings.

We took the City Tour Train up to the top. The views were spectacular and breathtaking. You can see for miles on a clear day and I'm so glad it was. If you have an opportunity don't miss this. There is a trail to the top so some people walk. You can also take your own car if you wish. The tour was nice for us as we got to see much of the rest of the city.

We saw spectacular views of Alesund from the top of Mt. Aksla. Definitely worth a visit! On the way to the viewpoint, we saw a few bunkers built into the mountain by the Nazis during the Second World War.
