I stayed there one night for business trip. Overall, it wasn't a bad stay. The location is good. I got a good price but considering the quality of the room, it was ok bargain. The hotel room looks old, the bathroom brought me back to the 80s or 90s era with old style drawers. But it was clean and everything worked properly although they decide to go cheap by not providing proper toiletries. The room is small even for Stavanger standard. The breakfast was ok, nothing special but wasn't bad either.

Overall, nothing special about the hotel but if you are on budget and could get good price in this hotel, go for it.

Thon Hotel Maritim, Stavanger, Norway Couple from Aberdeen August 2011

Excellent Location

During our recent stay in Stavanger, which we booked with Expedia in March 2011, we stayed at the Thon Hotel Maritim for 5 nights. Booked a twin bedded room and requested high floor with a view. On arrival on Friday 29 July allocated Room 506 (5th floor) Double Room with partial view of lake. Told Receptionist who booked us in that we had booked twin beds, but were told that hotel was full, and there were none available. He said twin room may be available on Sat. or Sun. but on checking bookings on computer, he said there would no no twin beds available due to the number of nights we were staying there. Room 506 nice, but small and minimal. Double bed, wall mounted TV, small fridge/bar, no wardrobe, just a frame from the wall with few hangers and four very small shelves, no drawers in the room or bathroom. No storage room whatever. There were 2 chairs. Shower room was very small. Small corner shower cabinet, small sink and toilet. No toileteries - only soap on first day. We believe most guests stay for only 1 or 2 nights. Storage for longer stays not provided in rooms. Room was kept clean and linen changed each day if required. Breakfast, which was included in price, buffet - very good. Free coffee at any time in the lounge, free internet also. Receptionists friendly. We flew from Aberdeen to Stavanger with Eastern Airways (very good) and took the Flybussen from the airport into town centre Bus Station - less than 5 minutes from hotel. We chose the 29th July to go to Stavanger so that we would see the Tall Ships in harbour until the 31st July, and we were certainly not disappointed. We enjoyed Stavanger and surroundings. A very nice small town and easy to get around on foot. Weather was excellent for the 6 days we were there. If returning to Stavanger we would probably stay at the Thon Hotel Maritim and would request twin bedded room with bathroom with bath on high floor with lake view.

Hotel's in a good location with easy access to the main sights (Stavanger's not that big!) Thon hotels have a strong focus on families and children this one is no different with lots of glossy, shiny finishes to chairs, tables, etc which gives a nice bright feeling to rooms and public spaces. Reasonable sized rooms but virtually no storage space which could be a pain if staying more thana couple of days. Breakfasts are legendary with so much choice I would put them top of the hotel breakfast league. Slight issue with heating but I'm coming to a conclusion that's a Norwegian problem?

I stayed at the Thon hotel for some weeks due to work and have to say, it was terrible. I was given a tiny room, at ground level, and the noise from outside was immense!!
As the rooms are intensely hot, and are not adjustable (as advertised), the window is needed to be opened. This itself then becomes a problem.....
Forget about sleeping at night if you are one of the 'lucky' ones who can actually get their window open, as the cars and the people will keep you awake most of the night.
On many occasions, I was woken up (when I did get to sleep) with people trying to get into my room thru the window, a pretty scary thing. When the management were informed, they didn't seem to care, just said 'Oh, you must be on the 3rd floor'.....not very good service if you ask me.
When I asked to move rooms, was told it was too hard......
In summary, if you book into this hotel and are given a room on the 3rd floor with an odd number, turn around, walk across the road and sleep on the park bench...you will have a better night there!!

Room Tip: Above 3rd floor and lake side

Dear Guest.

I`m sorry that your stay was not what you expected. Some of our rooms are in the 3rd floor and since the Hotel is in the middle of Stavanger there can unfortunately be some noise.

I hope despite your last stay, that we will see you again at Thon Hotel Maritim

I stayed at the Thon Hotel Maritim during a weekend break in Stavanger. I booked the room directly through the hotel website and was surprised to find a room for only £73 per night including breakfast - a very reasonable price for accommodation in Norway, especially as it was booked less than a week in advance of my stay. The hotel is in an excellent location next to the Breiavannet lake and only a couple of minutes on foot from the city centre and harbour side.

The rooms are clean and comfortable if a little on the small side (but more than adequate for a solo traveller or couple on a short break). The hotel is situated on a slight incline; an oddity of this is that although my room was on the third floor, it was actually at street level. As a result some noise could be heard from the street late at night but this is a minor complaint and not something that should put you off choosing this hotel.

Breakfast, which is available between 0700 and 1100hrs, is included in the room rate and offers a good selection of cold and hot items. I did notice however that some buffet items were not replaced after they had all gone so if you do decide to stay there it is probably better to eat breakfast earlier rather than later.

The Hotel is a previous very large book print shop, that was converted to offices. Now it is a hotel.
Although I live in the next city to the south, I go twice a month to Stavanger to meet friends. I always stay those Fridays at the Thon Maritim Hotel. The main reason is the bonus program and the great weekend rates. On their web site you can find good weekend rates. You need 5 nights to get a free bonus stay. That means you can knock off another 20% on the weekend price.
I agree with some of the others on the complicated heater. The thermostat is impossible to operate. Go to the heater itself, locate the power switch on the right side and switch it off. The TV system can be annoying (as in most hotels). Locate the TV button on the remote, and you should go straight to the TV channels.
The bathrooms are OK, but many have miserable light over the mirror. Have complained many times about this. The friendly director answer politely every time.
Breakfast is OK, the check-in and check-out is usually very swift.
Park your car in one of the parking houses nearby. The Air bus stops near. Taxies will take you there.
Why should you choose the Maritim? Friendly staff, good bonus program, but most importantly the fantastic beds. The madresses must cost a fortune..
Remenber the rooms with EVEN numbers have the best location in the hotel.

Room Tip: Even number rooms faces the lake.
