Owner description: At Hafrsfjord we find the monument Swords in Rock. It was here Harald Harfagre fought a battle that united Norway into one kingdom in 872 AD. The monument represents peace, unity and freedom. The Viking swords' hilts are modelled on swords found in various parts of the country. The monument was made by Friz Roed (1928-2002) and unveiled by King Olav in 1983. The monument can be reached by bus nr. 29 from the centre of Stavanger.

If you, like me, have a hankering for monumental viking-themed sculpture, then there one place for you to go - Stavanger. Here - or just nearby in fact, you will find three MASSIVE viking swords stuck in a rock.

There's not much more you can say about Sverd i Fjell. It's just three HUGE swords, stuck in a rock. But It is, it must be said, also hugely impressive, standing 10m tall and against the picturesque backdrop of Hafrsfjord. if you don't like monumental sculpture, or swords, then this really won't float your boat. But everyone else should see this. Really,y I've been a lot of places, and seen a lot of stuff. But this really is one I'll be going back to. It's unremittingly awesome!

We stopped to see this sculpture on the rocks by the small sandy beach and park. The sculpture is bronze and very nice. We would have spent time at the park and beach if it were available but this was our last day.

A short bus ride away from the city centre, you'll find this enchanting sculpture. As well as the swords themselves, you'll find a little beach which is great for paddling or swim.

It's a 2 minute walk from the bus stop and there are toilets on site. Take a packed lunch and some water, and you can nestle in for the afternoon.

If you're after the perfect photo, head down just before sun set!

Nice setting, good for photos but not much else around. If you have time maybe walk from town and bring a picnic, if not there are parking spaces available or buses run nearby. We drove here and spent about 20 mins here. There are no food or WC facilities here.
