“Good but akward”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

Overall the hotel is good – that is if you can see past its location (part of the hospital complex) and the overall feel of the place, it pretty much feels like a cross between a sanatorium, a hotel and a Ronald Mc Donald house. This means that lots of the hotel guests have either been just released from treatment, are concerned family members of people in treatments, mothers with their newborn and the like. Sometimes there is an odd group of other guests.

It is all very clean with sporadic decorations. My single room was small but with a good bed and shower. Breakfast has a good offering too. Staff is friendly, helpful and speaks good English.

I probably would not reserve this for a nice family trip or with my loved one, but for a quick overnighter during a business trip where you come in late evening and leave early morning again this is probably a good alternative. There is nothing in particular bad or super good, but the whole experience is a little akward.

As all other reviews would have pointed out... this is not a true hostel/hotel. This is attached to a University Hospital campus and looks like the building hosts the Maternity ward. So I often saw new born babies and new parents.
Obviously the rooms were very clean and neat (the price includes lines and towels as well which is quite good compared to other Norway hostels).
The buffet breakfast was excellent with lot of choices... but what was unique about having breakfast is that I was surrounded by new borns and it was so cute :-)

The only drawback is the distance from city centre... It is not walkable and you have to rely on public transportation (bus route 4) which was probably once in one hour (or may be 2) or Taxis which will charge you atleast 150 NOK.

Maybe not standard paractice in England but found it very odd and basic. We werent sure the number to call down to reception when the lift didnt work so we had to take the stairs from the top floor. Very hospital clean.

Just came back from lovely Stavanger and stayed at this modern hotel, associated with the University hospital. The staff was very friendly and helpful and informed me that being part of the hospital, when the rooms are needed the patients and their relatives take priority..which is fair enough. Also, warned me that would not be odd to come across new mums with their babies, or out patients and a few cancer patients.
Still realizing I needed to be in town first thing in the morning I was given a very clean, room, basic but confortable, with free wireless internet, tv etc...most of the time was extremely quiet apart from a couple of visits from the air ambulance...in the morning I realized my room was right next to the helipad...
Breakfast was buffet style and indeed a newborn baby was by the next table, so that was a bit of a novelty, but on the whole a relaxed stay. The only negative side is that is not central and as such it takes a bit to get to the city center, so if you have only a day or two is better to stay nearer the harbour possibly or you wont see much of the beautiful sea. However there are museums nearby which may be worth visiting.

Room Tip: Book in advance and arrive early, as if they need the room for hospital usage you may end up having...

My partner and I stayed here during a trip to Stavanger and the surrounding region in June 2012. The hotel itself seemed very clean and tidy along with the rooms. The rooms themselves were of a good size with flat screen TV (10 or so channels, not all English), bed was comfortable, although in our room was two singles put close together. The bathroom en-suite to the room was very clean and also a good size with a great shower. Our room faced out to the front, about halfway up the building. The buffet breakfast each morning was filling and very tasty. Location-wise it was approx 20-25min walk in to Stavanger town.

The strangest thing about the hotel (and this is just because we hadn't come across it before) was that it was part of a hospital, so when you checked-in at the front desk you either went left for hospital admittances or right for a hotel stay - in someways quite funny.

The only downside we found was that with the room window open, it could occasionally be noisy with ambulances or the air ambulance helicopter arriving but not enough to disturb - with the windows closed it was silent! Also the parking was a little on the expensive side (being Norway) and you couldn't pay per hour, it was in blocks like a shopping centre or similar type car park, so it wasn't cost effective to keep coming and going.

Stayed here for a few days on a budget trip to Stavanger(if there is such a thing). The rooms are spacious and very clean, with a television, desk, and fridge. Since the hotel is located next door to the hospital, the ambulance heliport can be quite noisy.

The breakfast is of the "healthy" kind, with not too much to choose from.. Could benefit ALOT from a tray of fried eggs and bacon.

I would not recommend this hotel, unless of course, like in my case, it's the cheapest one on a budget trip. (Don't forget to calculate in the price of a proper breakfast bought elsewhere)

Room Tip: The heliport is located north of the hotel.wing.

Key cards for the room and lift; but next to the lift is the stairs so key card for using the lift is an extra inconvenience; breakfast room is the other end of reception with the lobby shops in between so there's no check on residency when you go down to breakfast - nobody comes around asking your room number against a list; I could not find trays for breakfast. You have to slice your own bread using a knife with a serviette over the bread with your other hand, I would have expected the bread to be ready sliced; the only hot food is scrambled eggs and boiled eggs; other breakfast items are bulk yoghurt to serve yourself with a soup ladle,( like the bread would be more hygienic to have individual sealed portions), jams, cold meat and cheese, and fish salads. Tables are cleared by the waitress. Several mothers with newborn babies in trolleys at breakfast but I only saw two people come in to pay for breakfast before sitting down to help themselves - it seems the hotel trusts eaters without checking entitlement; I did not sample the high cost lunch menus but instead used the room refrigerator to store my own food bought from a supermarket 3 minutes walk away. The room rates varied according to the day of stay so my account had various prices for each day in the same room. Some breakfast staff also came on duty walking through the restaurant, and others that I saw in the kitchen gave me the impression that they were overstaffed. Other staff came in to help themselves to coffee and were outside in full view smoking; I've been in the hotel business several years so I notice these things - not a very professional operation to say the least.
