St Svithuns hotel is part of the University Hospital. It's a strange set-up: the reception to the Hotel is also the reception to the hospital. But I like the unusual to this in itself did not deter me.
But as a hotel, it is neither particularly comfortable, nor particularly good value - though these things are relative. Norway is an expensive country, and hotels in Stavanger are expensive by the standards of most other countries. St Svithuns had good ratings, and was the most affordable when I shopped on the popular comparison/booking sites.
The room was small, and spartan - though the bathroom was OK. The (single) bed was tiny. There was no air conditioning, and the room was incredibly hot overnight, which made it difficult for me to sleep. Opening the window let in too much noise from the nearby main road which my room faced, so I did not sleep well. This was a problem for me, because I was here to hike Trolltunga and Kjerag, with of which are best tackled when well-rested.
Parking is not included in the price, and was not particularly cheap considering the out-of-town location. I would hesitate before staying here again.
