“Warm (too warm) dry place to sleep”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

St Svithuns hotel is part of the University Hospital. It's a strange set-up: the reception to the Hotel is also the reception to the hospital. But I like the unusual to this in itself did not deter me.

But as a hotel, it is neither particularly comfortable, nor particularly good value - though these things are relative. Norway is an expensive country, and hotels in Stavanger are expensive by the standards of most other countries. St Svithuns had good ratings, and was the most affordable when I shopped on the popular comparison/booking sites.

The room was small, and spartan - though the bathroom was OK. The (single) bed was tiny. There was no air conditioning, and the room was incredibly hot overnight, which made it difficult for me to sleep. Opening the window let in too much noise from the nearby main road which my room faced, so I did not sleep well. This was a problem for me, because I was here to hike Trolltunga and Kjerag, with of which are best tackled when well-rested.

Parking is not included in the price, and was not particularly cheap considering the out-of-town location. I would hesitate before staying here again.

This is the cheapest hotel we can find in Stavanger. The room was very clean and the price was included breakfast as well. The breakfast was really good. However, the location is not that good becase it's about 3 km from the center and sometimes the helicopter was flying around so it was a bit noise. For budget traveller, I think this is a really good choice.

A late flight in to Stavanger and an early departure the following morning meant we just needed a bed for the night, shower in the morning and breakfast. This was the cheapest option I could find for my wife and I and our 3 teenage sons.
The reception is in the hospital entrance and parking is to the right of the entrance.
Check in was fairly slow as their is just one receptionist. I had booked a double and a triple room months in advance, It was obvious straight away that the double was indeed a single with an extra bed squeezed in and the triple was a double with an extra bed squeezed in, nothing like the pictures on booking.com. So the rooms felt very cramped and luckily we didn't have to spend much time in them. Didn't sleep too bad, I had a room overlooking the service yard and heard a few lorries late at night. The boys had a room at the front and heard the helicopter late at night.
The shower was good and breakfast was good. As we had a car distance to town centre was not a problem but might be if you don't but there is public transport available.
Parking is safe and secure and cost us 50NOk for the night, WiFi is free and good so at least our boys were happy they could get on line.
Does feel a bit strange checking in and having breakfast with patients around but we knew what to expect, wouldn't like to spend any length of time here but for us it was ok for a night. Disappointed the rooms didn't look the same as advertised and had I been staying longer may have complained..

I got so furious that I write review even before I check out.
We arrived yesterday night and paid for 2 nights by cash for 8 beds dormitory. The brown hair girl on the reception received our money and said the beds are booked for us and gave the room key to us.
But today, another yellow hair girl on the reception came to us having dinner after tiring hiking on Prekestolen, asked us whether we stay in this hotel or not, and asked us for the receipt. But we didnt got the receipt from the brown hair girl so we couldnt show it to her.
She said, on the computer, it shows we paid just for one night, so she could know whether we paid or not tomorrow when the brown hair one comes. We asked to her of calling to the brown one and checking but the answer was she couldnt because the brown hair one is free today.
I was so upset because the yellow hair girl who worked today(saturday) was so rude that she treated us like a liar or something. We cannot understand why we should be in this unpleasant difficulty because of the stupid reception girl's mistake.
Get the receipt if you dont want to be treated as a liar.

very good value for Money for Norway - £70 per night for B&B for 3 people. Good standard, clean and a very good breakfast. About 30 mins walk to the centre (or 10 mins bus ride).
A good choice for an overnight stay.

A decent hostel and room, excellent WiFi and breakfast that included great breads, fresh fruit, a variety of yogurts and much more. There is a convenient supermarket just a couple streets away.

The only weaknesses I found were three: 1) St Svithun's location is a 31 NOK ticket each way from Stavanger’s Central Business District or a 25-minute walk; 2) my room came with a small, non-HD flat screen TV. For 500+ NOK/night, the room should have an HD TV in 2014; and 3) a microwave oven in the room would have been ideal.

I stayed there instead of the hospital after my child was born and was not happy with the service. The food is not good, the rooms don't even have a pen & paper, there is nothing to make tea or coffee in the room and you have to pay for extra pillows. They change the sheets only every 3rd day and there is a lot if noise from the helicopter throughout the day.

An ok place to stay if the most important thing is to be close to the hospital - if not, stay away. You can find much better hotels within 15 minutes walking from this hotel (Rica Park Hotel and Radisson Blue Atlantic, Clarion Hotel Stavanger).
