A friend of ours has been going to the Bon Sol twice a year for the last 9 years and sings its
praises highly, at her suggestion my wife and I joined her for the last part of her last visit at the end of September, we were not disappointed.
When you arrive at this 120 room hotel you cannot conceive what awaits you, for it is simply unique. All you can see are 2 small entrances, set back from the road and covered in foliage, but once inside you arrive at reception off of which is the main dining room, bar, lounge, and breakfast rooms all at different levels and all decorated in traditional Spanish style and which are full of objet d'art ranging from suits of armour, oil paintings, a statue of Buddha etc. You will either love it or hate it, it's like being in somebody's home, and you are for for the hotel is privately owned buy Martin and Lorraine Xamena who live in and who run it with members of their family and staff, some of whom have been with them for over 30 years.
We had booked a junior suite, but when we checked in at reception, which was both friendly and efficient, we found we had been upgraded to a 2 room suite, a good start to the holiday. Roger, the porter took us to the suite in A block of the Beach Villas via 2 lifts and 2 tunnels which somewhat confused us, but we had been armed with a plan of our journey and the rest of the hotel by reception which never left us for the next 3 days until we had orientated ourselves. Waiting for us in the suite was a bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of the hotel's 50th anniversary cava. The suite was very well laid out, with a large balcony and sea views, it was spotlessly clean and my wife particularly liked the bathroom toiletries, especially the washbasin soap which came in its own container.
There are a lot of steps at The Bon Sol, some of which can be avoided by using the hotel lifts and tunnels and some like those to the beach area which can't but these pass through beautifful gardens which more than make up for the enforced excercise. Some towels do appear on sun loungers early in the morning but as there is no one place we could find where the sun shone all day, and there are so many places with loungers you will always find somewhere to sunbathe albeit not for the whole day. The tunnels are like tiled underground corridors; they were clean with the odd distraction by way of pieces of furniture etc. and even one with a Chapel. There is a unique smell to them which we found to be caused by automatic air fresheners installed close to the lifts, but it was not unpleasant.
There are 2 restaurants, one by the beach which has to be booked a day in advance and which serves a simpler range of food albeit to the sound of the sea, and one in the main building which we used throughout our stay and which has a larger menu and is more formal. Breakfast is the best we have ever had, the range and quality is unbelievable. Dinner is 4 courses with a choice of at least 4 dishes per cource all cooked to a high standadard, but there is also a Gourmet menu which although there is no choice we found to be exceptional and for which there was no surcharge. A small carafe of very drinkable house red wine cost 4 Euros. We found the service to be a little too fast, no doubt because the restaurant was always nearly full. A pianist plays throughout dinner and the owners were often seen eating in the restaurant, always a good sign. After dinner there is dancing in the bar to live music which changes every night. Palma is a 30 minute bus ride away on the number 3 bus which runs every 7 minutes from a stop just down the road from the hotel at a cost of 1.25 Euros one way.
Mr. & Mrs. Xamena were on hand to say goodbye, and they hoped we had enjoyed our stay at The Bon Sol, we most certainly had.
Would we return to the hotel? Yes, we have already booked to return in June next year.

Wr have just returned from stay at bon sol. All that has been said in various reviews rings true. Everything was perfect particulary the service in the beach restuarant , and 1 person in particular was extremely polite, courteous and helpful and that was mario. but all the waiters and waitress,s were a credit to bon sol and England could learn a thing or 2 about manners from these staff. The only critism we have was made on the 1qst evening we arrived. We had had all day travelling and we turntup at the main restaurant in a smart cut off trousers but were made to feel very uncomfortable because we had got the dress code wrong, which is smart dress only. we were told in a polite but very firm manner what was expected of our clothing level and were let in the rstaurant but sat behind a pillar ! we ate every night from then onwards in the beach restaurant where the dress code is more relaxed , and a more relaxed atmosphere in general. But all in all an excellent luxurious stay and highly recommended.

We had a wonderful experience at Bon Sol Hotel! The front desk was very attentive, as were the Director/owner and the charming maitre'd Alejandro. The food and service were of the highest quality, served in a beautiful, authentic Spanish dining room with a concert pianist as entertainment. The views from the hotel were absolutely serene. It all created a very memorable experience for us and we cannot wait to return. Thank you to the entire staff for making our trip to Mallorca so excellent.
