Paradies! We have been returning to La Samanna for the past several years and consider it a little bit of Paradise on Earth. Stepping onto the resort transcends you into another universe. The rooms are spectacular and the views breathtaking. The beach is private and sand like cushions under your feet. Why try someplace else when you have perfection here. If you want to experience a little bit of Paradise and want to be pampered and enjoy yourselves, La Samanna is the place to go!

A short hop from the airport and there's nothing to stop you from winding down. Relaxed setting and staff, great beach, two pools, tennis (with a delightful in-house coach from Poland), sea activities and great food. Loved the shock of crossing paths with a very large iguana, the colour of lime margarita.

My wife and I have been going to La Samanna for the last 10 years. This past week for the first time we decided to go with our 4 daughters. The trip was a total success: The staff at the property was as usual very helpful in every need we and the kids had. The Cottage M where we stayed was extremely luxurious and comfortable. We had our privacy on the 1st floor whereas the children where very happy to be independent on the ground floor. The view from the vast terrace on the first floor are exceptional. The terrace on the ground floor will be an ideal for a dinner celebration as we plan to go back for our next holiday: We can't wait to go back....

We have been returning to La Samanna for the past several years and consider it a little bit of Paradise on Earth. Stepping onto the resort transcends you into another universe. The rooms are spectacular and the views breathtaking. The beach is private and sand like cushions under your feet. We go in the summer when it is less crowded because we enjoy it that way. The staff at the resort treats all its guests like "royalty" and cannot do enough to help or please you. You are truly pampered. We have been told we are on "holiday" when we are there and are to do nothing but let the staff take care of our every need and that they do, pleasantly. I cannot say enough about the resort of the staff, other than when we return they greet us with open arms and say "welcome, you are home again" and that is how we feel.....welcomed! We have come to feel like most of the staff, Mayliss, Appoline, Romel, Jean Wohl,Tricot, have become more than just staff members. The have become friends. We have seen many a guest, both european and american that have put these people "through their paces" and have been rude and expecting, condescending, and just plain old not nice. We have seen the staff respond back with nothing but kindness and try to please. But, you know, you cannot please everyone, especially those unhappy people that would never be please b anyone or anything and just expect and want more and more. Enough of a rant on rude people. We do rent a car to experience different places to eat on the island. Unlike other islands, we feel safe leaving the resort and traveling around to try another beach or shop or eat away from the resort. There is a great pizza place nearby at the medical college. It is a tiny little walk up window at the back of the college and the pizza is GREAT. We are from New York and enjoy good pizza. I believe it is closed during September and October. You should check it out , you would not be disappointed. Also, Jean Luc at the Spa gives the best massage I have ever had. He has spoiled me so much that I only get a massage once or twice a year now an that is at La Samanna. The women at the Spa are also very good and I have had massages by them as well. The Spa prices are very reasonable as well and they are also very welcoming. Every year we say we will tr someplace new because there are so many islands, but as that old saying goes "Don't fix it if it;s not broken", we keep returning to LaSamanna. Why try someplace else when you have perfection here. If you want to experience a little bit of Paradise and want to be pampered and enjoy yourselves, La Samanna is the place to go.

The rooms are delightful, the restaurant is first class with delicious food, as you may expect from a French Restaurant but unusual in the Caribbean. The Beach is beautiful as is the clear clean sea. Beware, there is a climb to get out of the sea, so not for the infirm. But the pool is large, warm and again is great to both swim and lie beside, especially with a mango and passion fruit smoothy! I really recommend this hotel and look forward to returning to it

Dear vivthetraveller,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review. I am very happy that the rooms and restaurant were to your liking. As you said, Baie Longue beach is a very beautiful beach, in fact it was voted in the top 100 beaches, something we are both very proud and lucky to call ours. We look forward to welcoming you back for a mango and passion fruit smoothie and a dip in our pool or beach.

La Samanna is a beautiful place to have breakfast. Although, I have stayed here before. I prefer to stay in the Grand Case area near all the French Restaurants. See my reviews. I have been traveling to St. Martin for over 12 years and I always have Breakfast at La Samanna. The entire lobby area has been completely remodeled and has really improved the function of the hotel. The view is spectacular and beautiful. The color of the water is so inviting while enjoying nice buffet. Everyone needs to experience this at least once. The buffet is on the pricey side but you only life once so give it a try!! See you there!

Dear FrankA,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Our breakfast buffet is a big hit with both guests and outside guests and the view cannot be matched. I am glad that you are still enjoying breakfast with us after 12 years. Perhaps next time you are on island you will reconsider staying with us, there are some very wonderful restaurants nearby. We would love to have you return to us.

We have been staying at La Samanna for about 17 years, twice a year for the last 7 or 8, and have to tell you there's a reason other than just the beautiful location, great service, and cold Carib that Jean Woel, Garry, or Romel always have waiting for us before we even sit down at the beach bar - it is the same staff, now friends, that for years greet you so well and take care of you even when you act like the rude American tourist that we all sometimes become. The island has changed over the years, some good, some bad, most lately because of the economy, but for every closed shop in Marigot, or delayed project (Blue Mall) there is something else great going on. If you need a totally "clean" place and not a "dirty" island as one writer comments, then perhaps you should avoid experiencing what we have come to love as a place where there is real life, and not just another sheltered resort on a perfect island.

Enough preaching, now for the facts. The beach is the best on the island, if you like quiet, a wonderful and easy swim, one row of loungers with nothing to block your view, and no more than 50 or so people on the beach at one time. The sand can pile up in the late summer, making it a little hard to climb back up to your lounger, but if that's a problem, just go to the pool. Get a beachfront room, and you are only 50 feet away from the water. Breakfast is included in most room rates, and is excellent. Lunch at the beach bar is too. Have not eaten at the main dining room in a couple years, but did have a appetizers in the wine cellar for 25th anniversary and it was great. Be sure to rent a car, so you can go to Marigot, Grand Case, or Cupecoy for dinner (Pressoir, Mario's Bistro, La Cigale, Temptation, Rare . . . ) and to the casinos for blackjack after "if you don't like nice things". Check with Benny and Roberta, great concierges, to get you set up.

La Samanna, thank you for welcoming us back for our 30th anniversary this week. It was, as always, a great time. Our room literally looked out on the wedding that is described in a prior posting, and we actually watched it from our deck with rum drinks in hand. You did a great job handling what must have been a difficult task at this time of year in the islands. We know you also went out of your way to accomodate the newlyweds and their party until the very early hours of the morning, all to try to make it right for them. That's why we continue to come to La Samanna. We read a wedding party members review and can tell you that they must have been at a different, pretentious wedding on St Barts or Anguilla, because the one on St. Martin would have been most peoples dream! We can only hope that the young surgeon and his new wife (yes, we were next to you on the beach the next morning as you and your friends blasted music, cursed loudly and debated a new Porsche) come to realize how good you have it!

Frank, Mersula, Cassy, Benny, Thicot, Romel, Jean, Richard, Orlando, Jean Woel, Emma, Roberta, Garry,Thelma, .... and everyone else, we thank you and look forward to the 2014 Super Bowl party. Please remind Romel that we would like reservations for front row seats, a bucket of Caribs, and lots of classic French football snacks - foie gras and escargots.

Dear Sammycain,

It was a delight to read your review, thank you very much for taking the time to write it. Also, I wanted to thank you for your comments about the staff, I will be sharing it with them as I am sure they will be very happy to hear them. It is true, a lot of our guests have become like family to the staff - you cannot train people for that, it comes naturally. I am glad that after all these years, and the changes to the island, the hotel, the food, the staff and the island still make you want to return.
Rest assure, we will have the bucket of Caribs ready along with some wonderful snacks for you when you return in 2014. We look forward to seeing you then.
