Well, if your looking to stay at a property that offers a private recluse to the happenings of an Island of many journeys this is the place.
We were blown away by the staff and accomodations here. Breakfast and sun before 2pm then go to Marigot or Grand Case for a two hour French lunch and shop awhile or check out the locals market. Do the local thing then head back to your sanctuary at Lounge Bay for a late afternoon cocktail and sunset. Could anyone feel better or safer about being in Saint Martin? The scene is ultra cool and the staff is very well trained. All the beautiful people are here and the women are mostly topless and carefree.
The hotel grounds and buildings are all newly renovated and offer the utmost in Island living. I went once and had to go back. Unforgettable experience. The French side is very friendly and cultural with great food. The Dutch side is where the Gambling and Sin Fun is.
Yes La Samanna is expensive but it is without a doubt the best accomodations on the Island and the staff is almost always someone who has been there at least 10 years. That should tell you something about the property and the management. The beach is pristine and the bartenders know what to do to make you happy.

Spent 4 great nights at La Samanna. Our flight got in before the check in time. We were greeted with a cool towel and drink. Our room was not ready (which I expected being so early). We left our bags and headed to Marigot for lunch and some quick shopping. While in Marigot we bought some stuff for the fridge. The room was ready when we returned.

Our room had been renovated recently and was fantastic! The terrrace was fabulous. We sat outside and enjoyed some wine. We got a citronella candle from the pool area and it help to keep the bugs away.

The service at the pool is great. They came around with cool towels, water and sorbet... a very nice touch.

The staff is friendly and informative. They went out of there way to make the trip a great one.

It was my second trip to La Samanna and I have already booked my 3rd!

Just returned from La Samanna and had a fantastic time. After reading some earlier reviews I was expecting the worst, but was very happy with the hotel and service. The beach is very private and the cleanest I have ever seen. Beautiful rooms and views of the ocean from a private veranda. Met at reception with cold towel, drinks & tour of the hotel. Beautiful pool, but the beach was so nice never even tried the pool. Room was very nicely furnished and bed very comfortable (relatively hard). Incredible breakfast buffet and very good dinners. Staff were all very friendly, including reception, dining, maids & beach bar. There are plently of beach chairs available, but we found it useful to get up early and "claim" chairs in front of our room for convenience sake. Water is brought to you on the beach in the morning. They provide masks, fins & snorkels free for use, as well as kayaks. Waterskiing and jet skiing also available for a reasonable fee. We stayed 5 nights & had 3 excellent dinners (one of which was at the hotel). Another excellent restaurant is the nearby Temptation restaurant. Highly recommend it. Rented a car from Thrifty and had good service from them. Highly recommend hotel & we will definitely return next year.

Second visit to St. Martin at La Samanna - 1st time was great except the bathrooms were a disapointment...so we booked again asking for better bathrooms - and wow what a great pad they gave us!!! Huge suite overlooking that great water, big terrace, sitting room, kitchen facilities and an enormous updated bath!!! Just incredible...The breakfast buffets are a delight- dinner is great too but a bit warm on the terrace... Orient beach rocks!!! So much fun! For great ambiance go to Citrus in Cupecoy-for great Italian there's Sebastiano's in Grand Case...The marina is fun but watch out for the huge waterbugs after a rain!
Marigot is fun for some french shopping - especially for you ladies who covet European cosmetics!!!
For us the best of both worlds is La Samanna as a home base (quiet, secluded pampered) rent the car and travel the island!

We stayed at La Samanna the second half of our honeymoon. The hotel's views, beach and gardens are beautiful. But there are issues that ruined our stay.

1. The restaurant. The food was decent but the menu never changes and the staff is rude, matter of fact, curt and obviously bothered by questions. (especially the woman that is featured in their literature as being on staff for many years)

2. The rooms. Our bathroom was the best part. The room was nothing special as you would expect for $800 a night. Our outside sconces didn't work so we couldn't sit on our balcony at night. The railings around the balcony weren't railings at all. They were concrete walls that ruined sitting outside because you couldn't see the views through the concrete. What a waste of balcony.

3. The spa. When on the resort website, you're given the impression that the spa is world class but in reality, it's quite amature. The massage rooms are open windowed which allows for mosquitos to feast on you while exposed or many times, they massage you outside which is nice but you feel exposed because anyone who walked into the spa can see you. They don't have many staff on hand so, often times, you're too late to book a treatment because all the staff is booked.

All in all, an okay resort but not a 5 star! And not worth the money!
