I stayed at Riviera Hotel for one night in early-May 2014 traveling alone by car along the coast of Southeast Britain.

I recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in a hotel close to the This is the perfect spot for you! Please read my comments below.

Front desk (Check-in/Check-out/Service) +++
Staff at the front desk friendly and on arrival offered a 24 hour parking permit for £1.

Atmosphere/Rooms +++
Riviera hotel is well kept, nice and clean. Room interior basic yet functional.

Internet +++
The hotel had free Wi-Fi internet, available in all areas. Didn't experience any trouble.

Breakfast ++
Breakfast included in room rate. Guests get a RyainAir-style breakfast menu card with a few British style dishes to choose from. I have higher expectations on breakfast and prefer buffet-like breakfast tables but for the rate paid, I guess it was ok.

Parking +++
Street parking in the area. I would expect it to be busy at peak season. Parking permit offered by hotel a plus.

Location +++++
Great seaside location close to the Pier and Downtown area.

Summary/Overall view +++
Coming back to Eastbourne in the future I will look for vacancies at this hotel first. I would recommend Riviera hotel for anyone looking for a clean budget hotel.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room with sea view.

Very clean throughout, good location on the seafront by the pier.
Lovely full English breakfast set us up for the day. Friendly service.
We picked the right weekend, the weather was perfect, clear sunny and warm.

Located at the eastern edge of Eastbourne, but not too far from centre of things.
The receptionist (Annya) was extremely helpful in arranging £1 all-day parking across the road from the hotel which saved us finding a municipal parking with sky high rates. We had asked for a sea-view room and we were not disappointed, The room was first class although the sound proofing was not 100%. We only ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was quite good value and the portions were large ! All in all, a good hotel and good value for money, Recommended.

Located on the sea front within a few minutes walk from the Pier. Breakfast was good but the Orange juice could have been a lot better with a bigger choice of cereal.
The room was comfortable and the staff friendly.

This hotel is clearly not desperate for customers, so I'd advise going somewhere where they are more grateful to take your money.

We arrived very late and were due to leave early. On arrival, the reception staff handed us our key without even bothering to tell us our room number or how to get there. We asked when breakfast was and he said 7.30, which was a relief to us as it meant we could leave at 8am to make an appointment. We asked him if he could book us taxi to ensure we could leave quickly and his response was baffling. He merely shrugged his shoulders and said "you can do it in the morning". When pushed again, he told us there was a phone in our room which we could use. We finally managed to extract a taxi number from him, which he just reeled off quickly without the county code. Really useful, seeing as we're clearly not local to Eastbourne...thanks. Never, ever, been to a hotel before (or any place of hospitality) where they don't just book you a taxi when asked.

The following morning it was revealed that actually breakfast starts at 8 at the weekend rather than 7.30. The man who claimed to be the owner of the hotel informed us that he couldn't possibly give us any (already paid for) breakfast earlier because his staff "wouldn't work".

When explaining to him what we had been told the night before by his lazy and indifferent receptionist, he responded with "that's strange, isn't it", basically implying we were lying. He also pointed out that the grubby slip of paper that had been wrapped around our key had the breakfast times on it, and we should have looked at that.

An apology would have sufficed. In fact, the mustiness, crap showers, smell of damp and general drabness of the room, as well as the inability to make us breakfast, would all have been forgivable, had there been even the smallest semblance of an understanding of good customer service, and knowledge of the BASICS in how to treat us like paying guests. Especially from the "owner"!

Eastbourne is jam-packed with places to stay, at all different price points. Pick somewhere else.
