Reviewed 10 December 2013

Just returned from a 4 day trip to Majestic Hotel with National Holidays with my sister. As I have difficulty with stairs I asked for a lower floor room, which was a huge mistake. We were given the key to room 1 and when we entered the room it took 10 minutes for the very low wattage light to become light enough for us to see. We tried to open the curtains but the window overlooking the back was so dirty that didn't help much. The room was very, very dated and tired, but extremely hot. The massive radiator was next to one of the beds and it was unbearable. The toilet/shower room measured 2'6" wide x 7'6" long. The radiator was right next to the toilet and if you are larger people like we are, you tended to burn your leg when using it. We had to remember to wrap a towel over it. When requested staff did turn the radiator off in the bedroom which made that more comfortable but we forgot to ask if the bathroom radiator could be turned off. The other rooms at the hotel were equally hot.
Food was ok with a choice for every meal, but not as good as other Bay hotels I have stayed in. The staff were always helpful. Unless you got a seat in the entertainment room early, there were no seats left. The hotel is in a lovely postition, not far from the town Centre of Eastbourne and on the main bus route to Brighton. It just needs some more TLC and the heating sorting.

Room Tip: Do not ask for room No. 1

Hi Harem3. I am sorry to hear you did not find your room comfortable. The heating temperature is set centrally from reception and it is difficult to please everyone, but I am pleased that the staff turned the radiator off at your request, and I hopefully this made your room more comfortable for you. The room you were allocated was a back facing room and unfortunately we have lots of building at the rear of the hotel. Maybe if you plan to visit a Bay Hotel again it would be advisable to book a room with a view. I am pleased however that you found the staff helpful. Thank you for posting your review.

Just returned from a stay at this hotel with Shearings. The hotel is being redecorated bit by bit but what really let's it down is the service in the restaurant - or lack of it! No one appeared to be in charge - some guests were served very quickly but not in our case we waited up to 20mins on each visit (even at breakfast for tea/coffee). Hotel in a good position on sea front but rooms & corridors shabby & lifts are scruffy & very small (max 3 - 4 people). No return visit planned!

Hi Caz and friends. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. I am pleased you noticed that the hotel is being refurbished but I am rather surprised you found the corridors shabby as they have just been decorated. I apologise about the service in the restaurant and I will be sure to look into your comments. Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Stayed in this Hotel on a " Caledonian 5 Day Superdeal Break". between 26th.- 30th.,August What a let down. Found allocated room 330 at rear of hotel on 3rd. floor to be well below acceptable standards.Complained immediately but room could not be changed as hotel was full to capacity. Were told by management unfortunately we were allocated one of the outdated rooms.

During stay we had to suffer room with stained, dirty areas of carpet, Window Frame askew, dirty marks on ceiling, torn wallpaper, chipped paintwork, black gunge & hair partially blocking shower plug hole, dirty pipes in toilet & shower areas, verdi grease on toilet handle. Our room looked on to a blocked ronepipe full of grass. We forwarded photos of all these areas to Tour Operator for their records.
Also throughout our stay we had major problems with stabilizing water temperature & water pressure whilst using shower. On 3 occasions we had no hot water from sink in bathroom, usually between late afternoon early evening. Going by previous reports I think this is an on going problem.

We also had a problem with only one of the 2 person antiquated lifts working. The one remaining lift had a mind of its own. It was a hit or a miss whether it stopped on the correct floor or not. That is when it did appear. I do use the assistance of a walking stick, but i really found having more often or not, to physically walk up three flights of stairs to / from room, rather unsatisfactory when working lift was either stuck on a particular floor, or malfunctioning. I also think this is another on going problem.
There is also an issue in dining room with guests having to collect breakfast cereals, porridge etc. from a raised area accessed by stairs. We witnessed one senior gentleman tripping on these steps and dropping & smashing his plate with the contents going everywhere.
We would also suggest waiters etc refrain from stacking silver vegetable trays on top of each other, whilst serving tables. Not very hygenic.

This hotel is definately not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Bay Hotel Brochure clearly states Quote" Our standard rooms are superb" also quote "Our standard rooms are charming, and have everything you would expect" . Clearly misleading on this ocasion.

Hotel requires to be completely renovated throughout immediately.

Great location. Thats all I can say.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

We travelled from the Midlands by coach, the hotel has an impressive look , situated on the sea front at eastbourne.

check in was quick and efficient, our room was very big with good views from the bay window. The room was always warm and welcoming, and was kept very clean by the excellent housekeeping staff. Only downside was no shower in the bathroom.

The meals were well cooked and well presented, although the breakfasts seemed a little small at times we never felt hungry on leaving the table. Evening meals were worth looking forward to as there was an good choice, also a gala dinner on one night of our stay

The evening entertainment was good with a varety of entertainers, along with a voucher for four drinks per night each.

This package holiday from Shearings with coach travel, trips out, meals and drinks vouchers is excellent value for the price charged, I would certainly recommend their holiday breaks.

Just returned from a 5 day break away with a group of friends. The staff and facilities were excellent. Room with a sea view, beds very comfortable and clean. Shower cubicle a little small but we managed. Food very good, plenty of choice. Entertainment was very good each night. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs, with only two small lifts. Not ideal if you have mobility problems.
