I spent a very nice weekend at Mansion Lions. The room was clean and well furnished. The staff very helpful and pleasant. Right on the front at Eastbourn close to buses and trains and all amenities. I would certainly go again.

Room Tip: Its very nice with sea view. My other friends had large rooms and were more than adequate. Plenty...

Just been there for a themed weekend and would like to recommend this hotel. The rooms were clean, warm and well appointed. The staff were very helpful and polite giving a good level of service. Communal areas were clean and airy with wi-fi available. The food, while not being condon bleu was good and there was lots of it. We asked for additional pillows and barely had time to get back to our room before they were delivered. Very good.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms suffer from a little traffic noise, but it's not too excessive and doesn't de...

Have just come back from a lovely weekend in this hotel. The rooms were very roomy, it was wonderfully warm and the food was excellent value. The staff were very friendly and our waitress remembered lots of details which made us feel very welcomed.

We've just had a fantastic weekend at The Mansion Lions Hotel, very helpful and friendly staff made our weekend most enjoyable. Superb food and choice of menu, something for all tastes. this is an older hotel full of charm and character so much nicer that the corporate stacked box type of establishment that much newer hotels tend to be. We will definitely return and are looking forward to it.

Firstly all you reviewers moaning about this hotel need to get a life I am a very fussy person when it comes to hotels and resorts read my other reviews and I had mixed feelings before I arrived at the hotel after reading the reviews on this site. When i arrived at the hotel there was torrential rain and gale force winds we had travelled down from Essex to spend a Christmas break away at this hotel along with my 60th birthday so i was expecting to have a good stay and enjoy myself, from the moment we arrived the porter Musa could do no wrong he helped us unload presents and luggage from our car in the torrential rain and gale force winds up to our room, The receptionist Gabrielle helped us to get in the room early and sort out the rooms for the rest of our party who were still to arrive , Our room was on the forth floor room 406 and it was a large double bedroom overlooking the coast OK it needed a little bit of a coat of paint and it wasn't the luxurious room that i think people expect from a listed building that the owners cannot upgrade, Take the windows in our room they had to fit secondary glazing that in the gale force winds weren't the greatest thing BUT Eastbourne council wouldn't let them put double glazing in they tried to put a disabled ramp in for guests but were not allowed to, With a listed buildings you are told what you can and cant do but the room was warm, large, comfortable, and had everything that we needed also the bathroom was modern with a shower,
The person who made things happen and entertained us all was Richard a very hard working person he was the meet and greet person, the bingo caller, the help in the restaurant basically everything, He reminded me of the manager owner who was featured in the TV documentary about the hotel in Torquay, After my wife mentioned that this was a special holiday he sorted out our eating arrangements in the dinning area so the whole of our party could be together and also that we had a table when we went to see the entertainment in the ballroom, In the Restaurant you could not fault the food that was served and our waiter Stefan was polite courteous and very efficient and always smiling, If you are going to come here and have the 3 course meal package you need to go on a diet beforehand and lose a fair amount of weight because the food you get is ample to fill your stomach, On the day we arrived there were problems all over the country with the rain and high winds delaying the people travelling by coaches the staff in reception and canteen staff coped so everyone had some food and got to their rooms without any problems and all the time smiles on their faces
Just one complaint there was supposed to be a sherry meet and greet on the night we arrived but because of the late arrival of the coaches it was cancelled till the next day, On the day when the meet and greet was held it was just the guests in the lounge with a glass of sherry i thought a meet and greet was for the hotel to say hello and go through what was going on, There wasn't any of that,
The evening entertainment was held in the ballroom which is situated below the hotel the ballroom is very big and has a lift access for the people who cannot handle the stairs, I did notice that it needed a little bit of a dust as i could see cobwebs on the ceiling and the fire call point in the ball room had cables stray up to the roof these should be held safely away in conduits and not hanging loose,
There was bingo every night for the guests followed by a musical act all was okay except for Mr Keys some good tunes from him but he did not have an idea to keep the hotel guests singing and dancing he played a Christmas carol followed by a waltz then a sing a long then a slow song our group suggested doing Sweet Caroline (Neil Diamond) and had all the hall singing and chanting he then put on a slow tune for gods sake he should have kept on with the sing a long tunes we asked for another tune the Birdy song and he said its too old and yet he played Glen Miller and Elvis tracks and the audience were from 55 years upwards what is a matter with him the audience were there to have a Christmas party not attend a wake for gods sake, But apart from that all our group enjoyed our stay the staff were fantastic and the room great I would definitely go back

The Mansion is excellently placed near the pier on Eastbourne's seafront but the disappointments start as soon as you enter. What were once fine period features have now been daubed with gold paint and the whole interior is dingy and run-down.
During our stay the hotel was catering almost exclusively for the extremely elderly and there were sticks and other walking-aids virtually everywhere. The completely inadequate lift was, therefore, monopolised by the many who lacked mobility.
The hotel extends itself down a terrace of Victorian villas which stands at the rear and access to rooms in that area is difficult and, for much of the time, the hot water gives up the attempt and the taps run cold.
The food is clearly from the cheapest source available and it is cooked to 'greasy-spoon' standards.
So: you are asking ' Why have you awarded the Mansion even one star?' (The AA have apparently given it three). My answer is that the efforts of the over-worked staff would justify at least that. They remain cheerful and obliging even after working long shifts. I thought they were great and they did much to improve what was otherwise a very disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Access to thesecond-floor rooms in the 200 range is difficult as you have to go up and down through...
