“Excellent stay”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

This was our first visit to Eastbourne, we could not have asked for a better first visit, of course the hotel was all we could have wished for, the front desk staff were so friendly you felt like you were dealing with a friend, the bedrooms were well equipped and the restaurant staff were also very attentive & polite, the food was also VERY good. We would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good place to stay. Next time we visit England (quit often) we will stay there again.

Only had one overnight stay through Travel Zoo and overall it was good value for the money paid for our voucher. The room was clean, quiet, nicely furnished and had a modern bathroom with good shower. It overlooked a rubbish skip but as we were only staying a night it didn't worry us.
The staff were excellent on the whole and nothing was too much trouble.
Only had a couple of gripes the first being that the bed was rather "rocky" and the mattress a little soft and un-supportive, although, that said my wife and I had a good nights sleep. If we had been paying full price I would certainly asked for a room change.
Our second gripe was that although we went down to breakfast relatively early, as suggested by one of the staff, the dining room was extremely busy and we were shown to a tiny table right near the breakfast self service area, which really, I would suggest, was only meant for one person. It was so small that it was difficult to try and fit everything on it and we had to ask one of the waiting staff to give us smaller plates. After we had eaten our cooked breakfast all our plates were whisked away by a waiter without asking us whether we had finished. Luckily we had! The choice of breakfast was good and about average for a hotel of this type. I can only suggest that if you visit the hotel and want a leisurely breakfast you go down to the dining room as soon as they start serving at 7.30am.
I Can only reiterate other visitors general comments particularly as regards parking and the non-taking of visitors names/room numbers at breakfast.
The hotel is nicely situated and within easy reach of most amenities including restaurants and has a pleasant bar area and veranda. With a little more attention to visitors needs this could certainly be a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side don't have an attractive outlook but are quiet.

Thank you for your review.

I am glad overall that you had a pleasant stay with us and I appreciate your comments reference view - this is a necessary evil whilst we are finishing our last few bedrooms on refurbishment.

Thank you for bringing to my attention the breakfast issues that you had and I will look into as this is not our normal service as you will see on past reviews.

Hopefully we may tempt you again soon and please feel free to contact me directly.

Top points for-
Good location & views
Clean & comfortable rooms
Good hospitality
Great breakfast
Reasonable price
Relaxing swimming pool

A bit of a walk from the station (around 12-15 minutes).
Drawback was there were very few eating options closeby with just a handful of takeaway.
Water was salty like every other sea side place so buy/carry lots of water.

Thank you for your review.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for specifically mentioning our hospitality and Breakfast.

There are actually 3 very good eating establishments within crawling distance behind us - please always feel free to ask at Reception - we don't mind if you want to eat out - we do know the area and are happy to recommend the best based on customer feedback.

Hopefully we will see you again soon when we can point you in the right direction.

Overall enjoyed our stay albeit some of the rooms appeared smallish and had very average views.
Good... Breakfast, seaviews, quietness, and location which is excellent incl beach just across road. Staff also good and we were very pleased to find a very expensive ring was still on table after cleaning whilst we were out.
Less good.... No air con anywhere, not even public areas like dining room and bars.
Weird system in restaurant when no names or room numbers taken so anyone could walk in and have breakfast. Parking can be problem but hunting usually found free parking not too far away.
Good value as bought 3 day package via internet.

Room Tip: Upgrade to get bigger room and Seaview if you can afford it. In hotter months front bedrooms seem...

Thank you for your review.

I am glad to see that you had a good time with us overall.

You are correct to say that our rear facing standard rooms are indeed smaller so the seaviews generally are much larger and worth the upgrade.

Thank you also for mentioning my staff and our Breakfast in such a positive way.

I understand where you are coming from reference the air conditioning but unfortunately due to restrictions of being in a conservation area we are not allowed to have the protruding workings associated with AC on the seafront - you will have noticed all the hotels on the seafront being as such.

Interesting to see your comment reference Breakfast Meet & Greet and thank you for bringing to my attention - I will look into most certainly

We hope to see you again in the future.

Booked break through Wowcher as a one off initially!
Love Best Western hotels!
Had a perfectly, spacious, family room, over looking the sea front, could see so much from the window, of the sea front and pier etc.
Interior design of the room was well thought out, loved the double shower. Had such a relaxed feeling and ambiance in the room lots of windows to enjoy the view!
Cleanliness of the room wasn't up to the standard We would expect of Best Western though! Chewing gum stuck to the dressing table side! "All" the bathroom tiles needed a really good scrub! (I work for a cleaning firm and I noticed straight away! However, we didn't complain as was only there for two nights.)
The hotel staff were very friendly, loved the swimming pool in the basement, only had chance to go swimming once throughout our stay, but had the pool to ourselves for nearly 2 and half hours which was great, our little girl loved it.
Room service was lush.
Breakfast buffet has lots of choice, but need to be down early as half hour before closing they promptly start packing everything away.
We parked right outside the hotel, left the car there for the whole of our three day stay. £1 permit a day from the hotel.
We walked the whole of the seafront with our little girl.
The Wish tower was a nice little land mark to visit, the harbour too, the adventure golf course, and treasure island outdoor play park and water pools for our little girl was a great afternoon spent.
Lots of lovely restaurants in the town and on the sea front up near the harbour end.
Lots of little cafes and bars with outdoor terrace/ deck for dining and drinking pimms until late, bang on the sea front watching the views. We thoroughly enjoyed that!
We had a great time at the pier, playing in the arcade with our little girl and looking round the little shops on there, so shocked to hear the news today that the pier has burnt down!
Cannot believe we was only in there two weeks ago having a good time throughout the weekend of our stay!!
So sad, really feel for all the business owners and their livelihoods as well as the heritage of the town.
We walked through the bandstand on the front, our little one had great fun dancing and singing on there to the passers by!
So much to do around Eastbourne too, the miniature railway was a nice afternoon out for the little one.
Druisilllas park (theme park) was excellent day out too. Highly recommend!
Would definitely go back and stay at this hotel, however, it just won't be the same, with not having the pier with the amenities there.
Highly recommend though. Must upgrade to sea view room!

Thank you for your review.

I am glad you had a good couple of days with us.

Thank you also for mentioning my staff and the quality and choice of our Breakfasts.

Disappointed to read your couple of 'negatives' though and this really is not our usual and we normally are one of the few hotels that do not 'pack away' early and 30 minutes is certainly extreme - I will touch base with the Restaurant Manager and see what happened here and thank you for bringing to my attention.

it was a shock with the pier but very fortunate they managed to save 2/3rds of it and we have all been assured it will be re built quickly in comparison to Hastings 4 years ago and it still hasn't been done.

If you do venture over again we look forward to seeing you.

We stayed just one night on this visit, but it was a really good experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was excellent, and breakfast was fantastic. Ewa, who supervised the breakfast room, took a really personal interest in ensuring everything was perfect.

Booked three nights on an Amazon offer. From booking by phone to the moment we left the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. had a free upgrade which was much appreciated, the room was spacious with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space.
There was an offer for help with our luggage and the hotel parking permit for one pound a real bonus.
The breakfast had everything that you could want ,with the dining room staff being attentive and welcoming.
A special mention should go to the staff in the bar , nothing was too much trouble for them ,even though some of the guests seemed to think that it was the bar staffs job was to clear up after them no matter what.
Hotel has a nice pool with changing rooms .
On the downside the bedroom windows outside were very grubby ,and the grounds at the back look grim with a skip and debris there.
These are very minor points that did not affect in any way from a most enjoyable stay .
Will definitely return again this year.
Highly recommended.
Very we'll done the team at York Hotel ,Eastbourne.

Room Tip: Sea view well worth the extra .
