Reviewed 28 January 2014

We have just spent a few days at the Claremont Hotel Eastbourne the hotel is clean and all staff are most friendly, the food is excellent. The location is handy for buses to Brighton and Hastings. The bus stops outside the pier which is only a short hop from the hotel. Defitanately will be going back again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have more of a view

We have just returned from a five day break in Eastbourne staying at the Claremont hotel belonging to Daish. Bus was due to pick us up at 09:50 but did not arrive until 11:45. We were left standing in the cold wind for approx 2 hours. Unable to contact Daish's HQ for information. Spent over £3 pound on mobile holding the line waiting for operator. Eventually spoke to a lady who had no idea why we had not been picked up but she promised to ring me back. Thirty minutes later she rang to say the bus should be with us in 20 minutes. When it at last arrived all the driver would say is that he was asked to do pick ups and drop offs hence the long delay. No reason was given as to why we had to wait for over 2 hrs in the cold.
The journey to Eastbourne was fine but on arrival at the hotel our rooms (101 & 102) were freezing cold although the remainder on the building was heated. Complained to reception who said they would investigate. The heating came on and went off again. Another complaint to reception but room was stone cold when we wanted to get up in the morning.Throughout the five days the heating was very erratic and off more than on. Complained to reception five times but the heating problem was never resolved satisfactorily. We spent more time in the lounge than we would have normally have done for the warmth. Thank goodness that the weather was not bitterly cold. The W/C shower area in room 102 was totally unheated and as such was unpleasant to be in. The shower cubical had mould in the grouting the shower mat was also mouldy. The nets at the windows were dirty and the old wooden frames were covered with mould at the bottom. Reception was told but nothing was done.
I understand that this is a budget break but heating and a clean room should not be to much to ask.
There was some good points however. The food and the dining room staff were exceptional. The entertainment in the evening was also excellent.

Room Tip: Steer clear of rooms 101 and 102. Apart from the heating problem these rooms are directly adjacent t...

i was in a group of 20 that stayed here for a Turkeyand Tinsel holiday. having been to other hotels run by Daish's holidays I must say I was pleasently supprised.the hotel is nicely positioned oposite the pier and is on level ground, so anyone with walking difficulties can make the most of their walking abilities. The food was very good and always piping hot and well presented, All the staff were realy marvelous. We were a disabled group so all had special requirements and these were all taken into consideration when allocating the rooms.Thank you Daish's. There was evening entertainment which in my (and the rest of the groups) opinion was well up to standard. Drink at the bar were pleasentkly not as expensive as i had expected, lower than normal. There are two lifts , one to the dinning room the other to the upper floors albeit they can only take 3 people at a time, however the staircases all have nice hand rails. This is a Victorian/Georgean building so they are limited to what they can do. The Bedrooms are quite small, but that doesnt matter as you only sleep in them, some have walk in showers and others have bath with showers over . there is also a nice little caferteria for afternoon tea/coffee and cakes etc. Everywere is very clean. all in all a good holiday at a very moderate price.

Room Tip: Make sure when booking you realy state your specific requrements , and ensure the HOTEL is aware of...

This is a very pleasant friendly hotel situated opposite the pier in Eastbourne. If travelling by your own car, parking could prove to be problematic. Food is both ample and of a good standard and the waiters are both very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is in the basement and has to be reached by either lift or stairs...if lift not working could be difficult for those who are infirm. Rooms are comfortable and well-appointed.

Very conveniently situated for buses to Brighton, Hastings or Lewes....can recommend the 13X between Eastbourne and Seaford which takes in Beachy Head, Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters ....a very pretty route and FOC if you have your bus pass!

Just stayed at the Claremont with my sister, mum and a friend. The manager and his staff are all lovely, nothing is too much trouble. We had a very enjoyable stay. My sister and I shared a twin room on the first floor with a sea view, it was very spacious, clean and comfortable. My Mums room was a bit small and our friends smaller still so they were a little disappointed especially as they were charge a single room supplement! The swipe type of room keys can be a bit of a pain for the elderly.

The bar and restaurant were excellent with a good choice of food and speedy service. When the hotel is full it can be difficult to get a table in the ballroom but we sat in the comfortable reception area and could still hear the music.

We would return.

Room Tip: For a twin room ask for number 120 if you don't mind being at the front although if you're n...

Daish's have taken over the Claremont, and as usual, our large group of walkers of a certain age were made to fell most welcome. Our room was adequate, I'm sure Daish's will be working their way through the hotel with refurbishments, there was a good choice of foods available, anything we asked for was delivered. The Christmas decorations were grand, they'd really gone to town. The entertainment in the evenings was hit and miss, but we all had fun, and that was the main thing.

Room Tip: sea view rooms cost a little extra I believe, it's up to you if you want the view. However, a ni...

This was our first stay at the Claremont. On arrival our room keys were issued with great efficiency. Our cases were delivered to our rooms within 15 minutes. Our room was exactly as requested. Bedroom was quite large, even had a table and 2 chairs. Bed was very comfortable, and the room was very clean and tidy. The downside to the room was the shower room. There was no heating in there and with the strong cold wind blowing directly onto it, the shower room was permanently cold and draughty. Also, the hot water had all been used by 3.30pm. So if you need a shower, have one before 3.00pm. The main bedroom was warm enough though. The dining room service was very efficient (Yvonne, table 1). Waitress was always pleasant and always had a smile, very polite and courteous. The meals were always very hot, the quality was quite good but the portions were only just satisfactory. The dining room could be very noisy. The entertainment lounge was quite comfortable, although it does lack air conditioning and can get a bit too warm. The entertainment varied greatly. Mike Moran was excellent but the others varied from average to poor. Beer prices are Daish's standard, £3 per pint of John Smith's. The big downside is the Manager. I think he has had his humour gland removed. He never seemed to smile at all. The other front of house staff were always polite and smiling, perhaps he should take lessons from them. We have now stayed at all of the Daish's hotels, some more than once. In 2013, we have visited all of Daish's hotels and this is our rating ....... in 1st place is I.O.W. (but only just), 2nd place is Claremont, Eastbourne, 3rd place is Barrowfields, Newquay, in 4th place is the Sands, Bournmouth and last in 5th place, by a long way, is the Devonshire, Torquay. We heard rumours that Daish's are opening another hotel in Weymouth soon plus another still under negotiations. Can'twait to try those. Let's see what 2014 brings!
