The management kindly helped out at the last minute to accommodate thirteen people
for dinner in a private dining room. The next day we used the room again for lunch
after a funeral.

Excellent service, food. Thank you to the Reception staff too.

Good food at all times - very good selection at breakfast and choice of menu for the evening meal. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Room clean and fresh towels. Location within a 10min walk to the town centre and of course right opposite the sea front.

Room Tip: If available a room with a balcony overlooking the sea - listen to the concerts held on the front fr...

I have just had my second stay at the Cumberland, Eastbourne with a group of 12.
When I last visited this hotel, there were a few problems with décor because of the dreadful weather at the time , but it didn't stop me giving it a fair report, with the comfort, friendly staff, and the entertainment, plus the ideal position on the sea front within walking distance to the shops, pier, theatres, and not forgetting a bus stop right outside to go further afield. Now the hotel is in at the end of refurbishment, and the rooms are looking great. My single 208, although a rear view had a lovely bathroom/shower which was almost as big as the bedroom. Okay squeaky floorboards are a problem, but you only hear them when your getting up, or going to bed. You don't go on holiday to spend time in your room, there is a lovely lounge downstairs, and food has loads of choice....

Room Tip: Top floor probably rules out the squeeking

Just stayed one night at the Cumberland Hotel following an event. I had a single room, which was perfectly adequate. The creaking floorboards and bed were a little irritating, however. The bath tub was disappointingly small, but I can live with that just for a short stay. Staff very polite and helpful. Breakfast okay. Nice spacious ballroom in basement. Talking to other guests at breakfast it transpires that the quality of the facilities vary from room to room, so it is worth checking in advance, e.g. if you want a television with digital channels and radio. The clientele was very elderly, but Eastbourne is renown for this.

Room Tip: Tell the hotel when booking what your specific requirements are.

Just had a cream tea at this hotel booked a table in the front of the sun lounge by the window. A lovely view. I had a decaf tea served in a lovely teapot matching the same pattern to all the crockery, ours was in a poppy style. The tray arrived serving sandwiches selected specifically by my husband.... Salmon, prawn, ham and egg mayonnaise. The second tier was carrot cake, coffee and walnut cake and lemon drizzle soaked with lemon, intermingled with raspberries, fabulous. On top were scones already piled with jam, clotted cream and fresh cranberries on top. To finish, my husband had ordered strawberries with clotted cream served in a martini glass each and sparkling wine in champagne flutes.
A beautiful cream tea to celebrate 10 years marriage together.

What a great holiday we have just had at the Cumberland Hotel. Rooms Good, very clean. We stayed in room 403 sea view. The staff were excellent very kind, and treated us like royalty. We went for 5 days with Plimbleys coaches. The biggest thing that made our holiday special is my husband is VEGAN. The hotel staff not only fed him but fed him royaly. His own Dairy free spread on the table with his soya milk every meal. I myself am a meat eater and my meals were superb also The bar staff were great. But the kitchen staff were very special. I cannot recommed them enough. The sevice we received during our stay far outreached the price we paid. Thank you all at the Cumberland.

Had a refurbished room but all the rooms seem to have creacking floors, even the short corridor outside three rooms creaked which really spoilt the weekend as after the bottle man emptied his bin at 7.15am and woke the neighbours the squeaks started and couldn't get back to sleep! The menu had a good choice in the evenings and buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. There is a new lift which is small bit we all managed. There is still work to be done, the ceiling needs to be painted, but if the floorboards are sorted it would be an ideal place to stay. There is no pool or any fitness equipment and wi-fi is only in the ground floor, they did say they were going to sort that.
