“Ok for 1 or 2 nights, not more.”
Reviewed 19 November 2012

This is the second time I have stayed here, simply for its proximity to a conference venue I was attending. The price is good, and the location was good for me, but it is pretty basic and not comfortable enough to make me want to stay for longer.

We were checked in at 10pm by the night porter who was rather brusque and not very welcoming. When we found our rooms on the first floor (we weren't given any direction) we had been assigned two twin rooms, when we had clearly booked one twin and one double. This was soon rectified, but was an added hassle after driving 4 hours in Friday night traffic.

The twin room I shared with a friend was very clean and had tea and coffee making facilities and a TV, but it was very shabby. The window had a broken pane of glass, the dressing table was missing a drawer handle, the towel rail in the bathroom had screws hanging out of it and the bathroom door didn't fit the frame, making it difficult to close or lock. The shower also leaked from somewhere and we had to use 3 towels to mop the bathroom floor both mornings during our stay. The beds were also very lumpy and you could feel all the springs.

Our friends were moved to a double room on the top floor which it turned out they had stayed in last year. As last year, their shower came out as a dribble and was fixed to the wall in such a way they couldn't stand under it properly.

There was also far too much heating on and we were all forced to sleep with wide open windows.

We ate breakfast in the hotel and the staff were helpful and there was a cooked option which was pretty standard.

There is wifi but it drops out once you go upstairs to the rooms, so it's really only useable in the bar and lounge.

While the website advertises people drinking in the bar in the evenings, there are only the most basic options available and it seemed to be staffed by the night porter.

This hotel served it's purpose as a base for us during a conference where we just needed to sleep. The breakfast was filing and the price was reasonable.

However I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than that.

On arrival our cases were taken to our allocated rooms, and we all went into the lounge for tea and mincepies etc:
Close by the sea..Excellent room, clean and tidy, but needs a little more space between bath, basin and toilet, decore was reasonable.
The hotel had far too much heating on for this time of year, but there were ceiling fans which were switched on for us hot blooded older persons??
Restaurant..Chef prepared and served up some delicious meals,no person had to wait for anything ,and all food was HOT,which certainly helped the hotel gain extra points from our party of at least thirty persons,(try the advadado with seafood sauce..yummeeeee). the only problem i had due to my on going Daibetic problem was...No desserts so had either nothing or cheese and biscuits..No fruit on offer such as an orange or apple also no salads .
Staff were very courteous, helpful and i would certainly recommend this place to anyone,i also intend to go back again and to sum the whole experience into two words..LOVED IT>

Room Tip: Corner suite was good enough for us Nice and quiet etc:

monday 29th oct 2012,was our turkey /tinsel short break, destination palm court hotel eastbourne .
On arrival we entered reception, where we were met with smiling, friendlyfaces and escorted to
the lounge where tea/coffee and biscuits were on offer.
" MEANWHILE" the cases arrived, room keys issued and to our rooms were invitedto go,to where the cased were deposited.
"AT THIS STAGE I MUST STATE ,it is a family concern and brilliantly run,{you can order your daily paper also}.
The hotel is situated close to the sea front, with good quality rooms, spacious, airy,on suite with bath/shower. BED, a bit hard but quality sleeping.MENU,good choices, well cooked, and presented.DINING ROOM -beautifully laid ,is situated on the basement level ,with lift /stairs for easy access.BAR- good varity,a bi expensive, two of our members statedto me and our leader Carol,on three seperate occasions a different price quoted for the same order,The bar man instead of using the till to itemise did the reckoning in head and totalled on till, most strange./
ENTERTAINMENT- excellent ,no problem there.FLOOR SPACE- very small, but we coped,
{ We will definitely return to this lovely, tranquil, and friendly hotel.
PADDY ROOM 209.

Stayed on a Mon-Fri trip. Very convienient for town centre and seafront.

Owner run and managed very friendly, the staff friendly and helpful. I thought the food was very good all freshly prepared and very generous portions had to limit myself to 2 courses at night because l could not have done the dessert justice.

Room nicely furnished, bathroom a little tired but all kept immaculately clean.

Room Tip: Ask for room at the front or side of the hotel otherwise you are overlooking the service area. which...

This was my second stay at this a hotel. First time it had left a good impression so I stayed longer this time. Like many other hotels in Eastbourne it is close to the beach and only a five minute walk from the town centre. The breakfast was above average for this type of hotel and the waitresses were pleasant and helpful as were all staff and management. My single en-suite room was an adequate size but could do with some improvement - the shower is just an attachment to the bath. The major disappointment was the bed - probably the smallest single I have ever tried to sleep in and with a mattress that was desperately worn.

Good position, if you can get a decent parking place.
Stayed in room 103...Best outlook.
The food is under whelming.
The cook (can’t call him/her a chef) can only boil vegetables until they are a soggy mess.
The cook has to mask all the foods with thick sauces and gravy.
One meal specifically stuck out, was the lamb in some sort of red wine sauce.
Our group consisted of ….. 2 X 62 year olds, plus one aged 89 and one aged 92, all four of us left it.
None of us found it palatable.
I asked for no sauce nor gravy for one meal, and my meat came out, rock hard and tasteless.
My wife gave up on the meat, and only ate fish at the end.
Cheap vegetables soaking in water is the name of the game, especially courgettes.
The very old ones’ love it….No need for teeth.

The great thing is the staff.
FANTASTIC!!! and nothing too much trouble.
If the owners’ can get a reasonable chef, it could be THE place to stay.

Another problem is…The toilet roll is so thin, you must take your own, or else your finger will disappear to a dark and not very nice place. (You know where I mean).
The beer in the bar is not a true beer, it is a John Smiths pumped through with nitrogen, and how ANYONE can call “Fosters” a lager, is self deluding with no taste.
You can only get Wi Fi in 2 public rooms…They should invest in a internet cable to each room, if they want to attract business people.
The TV when we went, was only 4 terrestrial channels.

A positive…
I slept on a foam mattress, as I do at home, and had some good nights sleep too.

Would I recommend it?
An honest answer is NO, until the food is differently prepared and presented.
