“What a great place to stay”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

I took my mother on the Amazon deal for 2 nights B&B. We paid an upgrade for a twin room and were given one of the huge disabled rooms on the 2nd floor overlooking the seafront. It was such a pleasant surprise once inside, given that it's not the most attractive building from outside. We had a ramp onto one of the two balconies, a good sized wardrobe with safe, flat screen TV and pullout refreshment tray. If I was going to be really picky, the only thing it was missing was a minibar/fridge. Onto the bathroom. It was massive and brand new. It had a double wheel-in/walk-in wet room with four showers - 2 with hoses and 2 rainshower type. Toiletries were provided. My mum suffers with a brain disorder and doesn't sleep well and the staff kindly brought up extra pillows and duvets to try and make her more comfortable. Breakfast was ample and tasty. Cereals, dried fruit, fresh fruit and yoghurt, pastries and the usual cooked fare served buffet style. You could also order poached eggs or porridge. We ate in the restaurant on the first day. It was a 3 course set menu + tea/coffee for £18.95. There was a limited choice, however the food we had was fine. Had I been with my husband we would have probably eaten out, but my mum and I both enjoyed our meal. The portions were good and the food was tasty. We both had hoisin duck salad to start, I had grilled bream and she had chicken curry for main and we both had a very generous cheeseboard for dessert. No complaints at all. We really enjoyed our trip to the Eastbourne Centre - what a fab refurbishment. The weather was great and we were lucky enough to visit when the car show was across the road. We had prime viewing from our sunny balcony! But I have saved the best for last. It was the staff who made this stay so good. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this had to rank amongst the best for service. All staff, without exception, were efficient and courteous, but more than that, they were kind. The lady whom I originally spoke to on the phone when I booked and whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, but who was so helpful when explaining our requirements, the ladies on reception, all of them, lovely. The waiters and waitresses in the restaurant were also so helpful. A special mention must go to Pauline in the restaurant. What an asset. The small things that were done for us, such as making sure we had a table where mum could rest her head against the wall, probably didn't seem much but made a huge difference and meant that mum could cope in her surroundings and enjoy a lovely break. I would definitely return and can't thank you all enough. I would heartily recommend this hotel for anyone of limited mobility or disability, but would happily go back with my family as the rooms/views are great.

Dear Ciboney2000
Thank you sincerely for a fabulous review of your stay with us.
It was great to read that you appreciated the effort that has been made with our accessible bedrooms which are just as comfortable and luxurious as all our rooms.
I also glad to hear that you enjoyed the restaurant both for breakfast and for the evening meal you chose on your first day. Whilst our evening menu is currently a table d’hote we do try to include as much variety to suit all tastes.
A particular thank you for both highlighting the overall service you received and for the special mentions!
Thank you once again and we hope to see you again.
Kind regards
Matt

First time we`ve stayed at this particular hotel and it wont be the last.
Very good value for money, and perfectly placed for all the local facilities ,
The on street parking was well worth the extra pound.
The room was a nice size and very clean, the shower/ bath room was spotless.
Staff were very friendly and very keen to help with any particular query that we had.
There was plenty of breakfast and it was served in a nice bright breakfast room with a pleasant
atmosphere.
All in all, very good, will definitely stay again soon.

My wife and I stayed for a week over the Easter holidays the staff friendly and helpful.
Rooms very clean and comfortable with large beds tv with free view and free wifi for all guests Breakfast was very good great selection.
Dinner menu very poor and not a great selection to choose from. The bar area has no TV or any entertainment we found it very boring drinks are very expensive and not a great selection bag of crisps £1.50 per packet .. A small bottle off water cost is £1.00 .Ok for bed and breakfast stay or a weekend . We stayed for a week and the was not at lot to do. Walk around town and along the beach and had a bus tour.
This hotel would,t suit families or young couples my score 3/10 more for retired folk or ramblers
Calling for afternoon tea..

Room Tip: Floors 4to7 at Balcony room which is Extra per head nice views and quieter and sunny

Dear spstky,
Thank you for your kind comments re your recent stay here with us at the Eastbourne Centre.
It was great to read that you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed the selection of items at breakfast.
As I have responded previously we do currently offer a table d’hôtel menu in the restaurant however we are currently reviewing our Food and Beverage menu offering in the Restaurant area (for both quality and choices) as an ongoing plan of changes and development.
We do have a large TV screen in the bar, however I am sorry that during your visit this was undergoing repair. I am pleased to note that is now fully working.
The prices we operate with in our Bar are very competitive when compared to other hotels in Eastbourne and we do ensure that we make regular checks on this to ensure that we continue to offer good value.

We aim to please and attract all sections of guests young and older for different purposes of visits, and have had positive feedback on many an occasion, on our location and amenities we offer.I am sorry that the Hotel did not live up to your expectations on this front.
I do hope we can welcome you back in the near future to the Hotel and you can see for yourself the exciting changes and developments planned for the Hotel, that will live up to your expectations.
Kind regards

Matt

Stayed here over the weekend & pleasantly surprised. Could not fault anything. Rooms pretty & plenty of space, staff very good, knowledgable & friendly. Breakfast was lovely and noticed that even when filling up buffet the staff ensured it looked nice. Really enjoyed our stay. Be very interested to see it later in the year when we return for a conference.

Stayed for a two-night Amazon Local deal for a £99 total B&B & found it a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location with stunning sea views from both our bedroom windows.
The staff were attentive & very helpful, service at breakfast was slightly slow on morning one & spot on the following morning.
We dined out both nights but for no other reason that the set menu choices did not appeal.
To summarise a good hotel & would not hesitate to return to.

Dear johncollins
Thank you for taking the time to write the review following your 2 night stay with us.
I was delighted to read that you enjoyed the outstanding views and that you were comfortable in your room.
Thank you for saying that the staff were attentive and helpful and I’m sorry if there was a bit of a bottleneck for one of the breakfasts during your stay.
We do try to ensure that our ‘set menu’ has as much variety on a daily basis, and I do hope that you’ll be back again to when our new restaurant and menus are in place.
In the meantime thank you once again.
Kind regards
Matthew

From check in to check out the staff were great - very freindly and helpful. Room was great, we were on the 4th floor with balcony the views are stunning. Room was all we could ask for - Very clean, comfortable king size bed the bathroom was very clean and well equipped. Breakfast was very good with a large selection of hot and cold buffet and the staff were very attentive clearing away used crocs very quickly and on hand for more tea or coffee if required. The bar area was clean and comfortable and we ate in the bar, the menu and food were very good. We did not eat in the restaurant - the menu seemed small for that size hotel and did not float our boats, although other guests said the food and service were excellent. The lounge area at the front of the hotel was very comfortable although we only used it to wait for a rain shower to pass. We both like Eastbourne and will use this hotel again. I am only being picky but did not give 5 * because the restaurant menu could have been better and it would have been nice if the large picture windows and balcony glass had been cleaned

Room Tip: If you havent already booked one it is worth the upgrade for a balcony with a sea view

Dear Mike H
Thank you for your balanced review of your recent stay.
It was fantastic to read that you received our great level of service from start to finish across all areas of the Hotel.
Thank you in particular for mentioning breakfast was very good although I’m sorry that the restaurant evening menu wasn’t to your liking.
For the benefit of future guests we do only operate a daily menu in the restaurant although plans are in place to introduce an a la carte option in line with the improvements that we hope to complete this year.
Due to our location we do battle with the elements and keeping the windows spotless with the sea salt air can be a challenge at times. I will however look at what more we can do to keep on top of this.
Finally, I hope we can invite you back when we’ve made the improvements to the restaurant for a 5* stay!
Kind regards
Matthew
