“A Lovely Relaxing Break”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

Visited with my husband who has mobility problems and this was the perfect hotel for him. A lovely spotless room with a sea view. The food was fabulous with a good choice of menu and staff were friendly and remembered things such as how I liked my coffee and what my husband liked for breakfast. Good customer service. Good entertainment especially Al Diamond on Friday evening. Will visit again soon hopefully.

Room Tip: Some sea view rooms have a balcony, will ask for one of those next time.

Very nice comments, thank you, I am pleased you enjoyed your recent stay, the rooms with the balconies and bay windows are on the first floor and they are very popular, so I might suggest you give us a ring and book early. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Lovel hotel right on the front with lovely views, clean and well presented and furnished rooms with really comfy bed, nice resturant/breakfast room, have stayed twice but the one thing that needs addressing is the mad seating at breakfast... even if a window seat over looking the promenade is free, you can't sit there they are reserved - no not as you might think for the most expensive rooms (I might even understand that one) but for people who sat there last yesterday! - when queried this with staff they say the customers like it this way - sorry but what rot, everyone was annoyed at free tables! Come on owner, lets have some sence...first come best seated!

Thank you for your comments, I am delighted you enjoy staying with us. I take your point however, most guests stay for a number of nights, having dinner each evening as well as breakfast, we have seven tables in the windows each seating two guests, with in excess of 100 guests in the restaurant for each sitting we would have world war three every evening and breakfast if guests were to sit where they wanted. We find it works best to allocate tables to guests for the duration of their stay. I hope this is a more acceptable explanation and I am sorry for your frustration.

We've stayed at this hotel several times over the last few years. We go every year as a large family group booking, although recently we've made it twice a year. Plus my parents return every chance they get for a quieter get away (without the kids!!!). Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, all you have to do is ask. My youngest was only 5 when we started going there and they even accomodated her request for grass and chips for evening meal (cress and chips!). The hotel has a warm, friendly and comfortable atmosphere, with excellent entertainment suitable for all the family. Its become a bit of a family pilgrimage now which all the family looks forward to. I can't speak highly enough of the Merrion Hotel and am looking forward to our next visit in August.

We have just come back from a 2 night stay at the merrion and have to say how fantastic it was, making the booking and checking in was done really friendly and efficiently. We had room 318 and it was so clean and spacious, the bed was spotlessly clean so was the bath and the housekeepers came in the next day leaving It really clean again. We had breakfast and evening meal and the food was exceptional the chef is excellent and the food is top quality - the staff were helpful and check out was also friendly and efficient we would definately stay again and looking around the bay at the other hotels the merrion I think is the best. Stayed at the Merrion for the first time after reading trip advisor reviews. Perhaps I was expecting too much although the hotel was very nice and friendly with good service. One the downside if I am a little picky was the room size, it seemed like a single room with 2 beds in there to make it a double.
It is obvious that the hotel has expanded over the years by buying properties next door and converting bedrooms to ensuite at the expense of reducing room sizes to try and raise standards.

We chose to try the restraunt on the first night. The food was well prepared and freshly cooked but not worth the cost of £52 for 2 people without any drinks. The following night we dined out of the hotel and had a superior meal with a lot more choices on the menu for quite a bit less money.

Speaking with other guest they also agreed the restraunt charges were a bit high compared to other hotels.

All in all the hotel is good and in a good position, but expensive to dine.

Thank you for reviewing your recent visit with us, as you say the hotel is made up of six Victorian Town Houses which have been combined over a period of one hundred or so years, every room in the hotel is different in size and layout, I am sorry if your room was smaller than you expected, if you would like to come again please speak to the receptionists and they will try to find a larger room for you.
With respect to your comments about value in the restaurant, I am disappointed to read your comments, at £26 for three courses we hope we are offering good value, however we take all criticism in a positive way and we will look at the menus to ensure we continue to offer value for money.
Once again many thanks for your comments.
