We are Anglophiles of the first order and particularly love country house hotels and their very special, very British way of doing things. Bodysgallen Hall is among the best!

The hotel was built in stages from the 1600s through the early 1900s, has maybe 30 rooms and is surrounded by many acres of wonderfully planted gardens. We were in a standard king (one of the lower category rooms) located up two flights of stairs. The room was slightly larger than average size, furnished in a traditional manner with a patina of age, had a very comfortable bed and a delightfully luxurious, but old-fashioned bathroom. We saw other rooms that were far larger and much more luxurious.

The best thing about these hotels is their wonderful public spaces that invite you to snuggle in, relax and experience the place. Bodysgallen did not disappoint in this regard. There are several drawing rooms that ooze character and are wonderfully furnished available to guests. Service is of the old school, unobtrusive- but ever-present. If Carnival cruise commercials attract you, you will probably find the atmosphere stiff and snooty, as described in some previous review. You will need to dress for dinner.

The restaurant is excellent- truly a fine dining experience. The cuisine is "global 21st Century". Reserve early and do yourself a favor and ask for a table next to the window. We had wonderful views of Conwy Castle, which is brilliantly lit at night.

In American dollars Bodysgallen Hall isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny. We LOVED it.

BTW, Llandudno is a disappointment. However, northern Wales had plenty to see. Portmeiron, which I have heard about for years, was a bust- like a bad 1920s theme park.

Just come back from a stay at this hotel. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, the food was fantastic but best of all were the staff. They were welcoming, polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. I think some businesses would benefit from the staff training that they have at Bodysgallen Hall. All of the staff receptionist, cleaners, gardeners, managers etc are a credit to this Hotel. Thank you and we will be recommending that others visit as well as going back ourselves.

I never actually made it to the Hotel! It looked great on the website. I planned to take a party of 6 for lunch in the main dining room. We probably would have spent a few hundred pounds. We would have probably made a returned visit. What was our crime? Why didn't we get there? We have a 51/2 year old daugter who they refused point blank to accomodate. This little girl has eaten in top Hotels in London, including the Ritz, twice. She can eat with a knife and fork. She is toilet trained! She goes to a private school. But no yet again on a visit to Wales we are criminals, hungry criminals actually. Get in the real world. Maybe you should hire a child catcher and have them all sent away. Some children do know how to behave and don't only eat in Macdonalds as a treat.

Wonderful stay in fantastic surroundings. Like going back in time with all the grandure of a fine country house. The staff were wonderful and very attentive and friendly. The grounds are superb and a credit to the grounds staff. The food was excellent. We ate in the 1620 bistro and had first class food and service. Would like to have had more time to study the history of the house-a booklet would be most useful. Very comfortable room and excellent service. Thank you so much to all concerned_can't wait to return!

We loved every single thing about Bodysgallen Hall & Spa. I'm not even sure where to begin. The staff was amazing to us. All food was amazing. We adored our little cottage, which was perfect for our entire family. The staff even made up a special bed for our daughter! The amenities, baths and decor lovely. We would all stay there in an instant...wish I had a good fairy or magic lamp! s

This is a beautiful restored country estate, now owned by the UK National Trust. It is a bit expensive, but there are midweek and other special packages. Beautiful gardens, splendid views, fabulous food, and very nice spa. Highly recommended for a special getaway.

  • Liked — Beautiful historic property, beautiful location
  • Disliked — Nothing to dislike except the cost!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Standing in over 200 acres of its own parkland to the south of Llandudno with spectacular views of Snowdonia and Conwy Castle. Believed to have 13th century origins, Bodysgallen Hall provides all that is best in country house hospitality. Beautiful gardens include a rare 17th century parterre of box hedges filled with sweet-scented herbs, a rockery with a cascade, a walled rose garden, and several follies. Historic House Hotels Ltd bought and rescued the house from a dilapidated state in 1981 and restored the 17th century house and gardens. In September 2008 Historic House Hotels Ltd and its interest in all its properties were given to the National Trust to ensure their long-term protection, with all profits benefiting the houses and the charity. The 15 extremely comfortable bedrooms in the Main Hall offer several different room types, including the four elegant principal suites. Each bedroom is individually decorated and furnished with antique furniture, paintings and prints, enjoying glorious views of Bodysgallen's parkland or gardens, with some rooms having further reaching views of Conwy Castle or the distant Mountains of Snowdonia. There are 16 cottage suites with picturesque names like The Smithy, Box Cottage and Pineapple Lodge, are situated in the grounds, and provide accommodation for guests preferring a greater degree of privacy. Many cottages enjoy their own private gardens and some are in close proximity to the Bodysgallen Spa. All are charming and delightful. The Dining Room in the main hall has been awarded three rosettes for fine dining by the AA - the only restaurant in Llandudno to be awarded such - and offers imaginative meals prepared from fresh local produce and complemented by fine wine, and overlooks the gardens and has been recognised as one of the best places for Sunday Lunch in the United Kingdom by The Observer newspaper. The Spa is approached by a short walk through the garden or by a private road. Converted from an original stone built farm it contains a magnificent 50' swimming pool edged with comfortable reclining chairs, whirlpool spa bath, steam room and sauna. A superb gymnasium has all the latest technologically advanced equipment, suitable for all ranges of fitness. A comfortable Club Room is a place where guests and members can relax and enjoy drinks and light meals, which in the summer are also served on the terrace. Residential guests have full use of the Bodysgallen Spa.Bodysgallen Hall is situated about 2 miles south from Llandudno and the North Wales coast. It is surrounded by over 200 acres of beautiful gardens and wooded parkland. Bodysgallen Hall has magnificent views of Snowdonia, and Conwy Castle. It's the perfect setting for a relaxed holiday at all times of the year. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting the many historic castles and stately homes in North Wales as well as the famous golf courses that adorn the coastline. ... more   less
