Highlight of our British Isles trip!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 May 2024
We already had high expectations when we booked our stay here, but we were honestly blown away at the hospitality of the staff, the room, the grounds, the food... it was all top notch! After days of running around in large cities, this was a welcome countryside break. We felt like royalty staying here. Close to Conwy and the historic castle there. We'll be back!

My heart sank as soon as we got to our room. Decaying, un-loved and antiquated. Massively over priced and to be honest a total rip off. We had a superior cottage at 470 a night. And by god I feel like I've been taken for a right ride. For something so expensive, the basic weren't even covered. Apparently they do not "allow" an iron or ironing board in the rooms or suites. This pretty much sums up the place. Rules everywhere, you don't feel welcome at all. Its defo not a home from home. And to top it off, there was a pervy member of staff peering into our bedroom window in the morning as my wife was trying to get changed... which sent our dogs crackers.

On speaking with hotel management... nothing was done, no offer to make it right... nothing. So we come away almost 500 lighter, with a serve distaste in our mouths and a ruined weekend break.

Oh and the facilities are falling apart. The spa had seen better days. Finding a small tile floating around in the hot tub wasn't ideal.

The only thing going for it, is the location. But it doesn't out-way the other issues and the outrageous prices.

Elgan Roberts, General Manager at Bodysgallen Hall & Spa, responded to this reviewResponded 8 May 2024

It is upsetting to read a review of this nature, especially as an opportunity to investigate the experience described was not granted while the guest was still at the hotel.

To address the reviewer comments regarding their overnight stay, daily visual checks are carried on all of our accommodation, and a full inspection of the cottage was carried out in February, to ensure the decoration and furnishings are to a high standard in keeping with the style of the building.

Our tariff is similar if not less than other country house hotel tariffs, which are consistently monitored.

A pressing service is available to guests who require ironing, this was declined by the reviewer.

The long standing member of staff that looked into the ground floor cottage window that is surrounded by public areas did so because he was alerted by the sound of dogs barking, and was attempting to ascertain all was well. Although the main curtains were wide open, the net curtains provide a sufficient screen to make the member of staff unaware of any other presence within the room other than that of the dogs. The occupants of the accommodation above the reviewer, made a comment that they had been disturbed during their stay, due to the sound of dogs continually barking

The reviewer did speak with hotel management regarding this experience, and accepted that the matter would be investigated and an explanation given. While this was being carried out the reviewer departed.

Communication with the reviewer has taken place.

We are sorry that these guests did not enjoy their visit to National Trust’s Grade I listed Bodysgallen Hall & Spa. We always endeavour to exceed to meet the expectations of our guests, and it saddens us on the rare occasions that we do not.

Fabulous place, utterly beautiful. Stayed for a couple of nights, ate one evening meal there and had an afternoon tea too. Staff couldn't have been nicer, particularly the front of house men who serve you when you are sitting about. Spa is functional if not spectacular but the treatments were excellent.
Gardens are fantastic and they organise tours round them which are well worth it.
Expensive, but you get what you pay for!

We had booked for the afternoon tea, from being greeted at the door, the service was spot on
The food itself was amazing, finger sandwiches, cakes and the fresh baked scones to die for.
A walk around the grounds finished off an unforgettable afternoon.
Thank you x

From the beauty of the hall and accommodations, to the amazing gardens and grounds, to courteous, friendly, knowledgeable staff, to the wonderful food and drinks, to the great spa with indoor lap pool, Bodysgallen is a gem. We only wish we lived closer so we could pop over for a weekend as often as possible.

A warm welcome by staff on arrival to a stunningly decorated entrance.
We were introduced to our florists by the charming Dion who looked after us throughout the day.
This was an enjoyable full day workshop with a 2 course delicious festive lunch with a glass of wine and coffee.
The meal provided delicious generous portions of turkey with all the trimmings and the Christmas pudding was so rich and scrumptious .
The hotel and restaurant is a much loved venue for my family and I and I was so pleased to have an excuse to visit again.
The actual wreath making was excellent so much natural foliage, moss and natural foliage to choose from. With careful guidance throughout the day many beautiful wreaths were produced with all of us sharing our attempts on cameras. A very enjoyable productive day.
I can’t wait to visit Bodysgallen Hall again with my family I will certainly watch ‘What’s On’ at the venue.
