“Arrive and Revive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2010

On arrival at The St George, we managed to park on the small car park to the rear of the hotel. When we checked in the receptionist was very pleasant and efficient she gave us a car park permit and asked if we would like a porter to bring our bags in. Our bedroom 108 is to the rear of the hotel and was quite small but well decorated . The bed linen was clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom large clean with a bath with overhead shower which was very difficult to reach round the shower screen to turn on.
The Arrive and Revive package includes a 2 course dinner with a glass of wine. We found the food to be good, and the view from a window table out over the sea to the pier excellent.. Breakfast was also good but felt we should have been asked about tea or coffee when we first walked in.
All the staff were very pleasant and efficient. and from our experence we would recommend' a stay at The St. George.

Excellent food. Very frienfly staff. All must have been on a Customer Care course. Bedroom 106 was a bit small and the bathroom huge!
Service between courses on the slow side and extremely slow between sweet and coffee.
It is a shame that the hotel allows customers to use their mobile phones in the restaurant.
Location is excellent.

we stayed here at the end of november, the room we were given looked as if the furniture had been dropped into it from a shovel, totally claustrophobic, so badly laid out you could not get round the bed. breakfast was buffet style, but served to you and it was a bit like oliver twist, you were only given so much. cold in the dining room for breakfast, overall not a pleasnt experience, we would not stay here again.

We do regret you were disappointed with your room as St Georges has a wide variety of bedrooms as can be seen by our website, and we cannot discover any request on your arrival for an alternative room which if available we would have been happy to assist.
As for your comments regarding the room design and layout we cannot agree as an national / international design team was commissioned for the project who specialise in 4 and 5 star hotels and as can be seen by the bedroom photos have produced an excellent result.
Breakfast on occassional busy mornings is served buffet style to facilitate good service. The food is only served to assist and never to restrict or 'ration' I regret you took this impression and didn't experience our usual plated service.
Please contact me directly if you did consider returning and I would ensure a warm welcome and a comfortable room.

This hotel tends to attract either rave or scathing reviews and having stayed there I can see both sides of the story.

The room I had was fine - reasonable size, nice sea view, the hotel was clean, the decor reasonable. Service varied between individuals - some were functional but didn't inspire confidence, others seemed genuinely keen to be of service. The food ranged from barely competent to good - often within the same sitting. One thing that did stick out was that everyone seemed to get the same veg regardless of what the main course was and said veg appeared to have been sitting waiting on hot plates. This is fine in a basic cafeteria, but not in a four star hotel. Similarly, there were some interesting mislabellings - e.g. something described as flavoured with coriander actually had tarragon in it. Again, not something I'd expect at this level. The quality of the food did vary. Sometimes lukewarm and badly prepared (it looked nice, but was often over-cooked and ineptly seasoned) other times of perfectly acceptable quality. Breakfast was fine - but on my last day I got there are 7.35 (sittings start at 7.30) and the hot food wasn't available. This might sound petty, but this is a four star hotel and by this grade things like this are just not on.

In sum, I think all the ingredients are there for a really good hotel, but more consistency is needed.

The hotel is beautifully located with wonderful views across the bay, and is handy for the nearby shops and the promenade. When i was there, there was a large group of older people staying there for the operas at the local theatre. I don't know if they constitute typical clientele.

We do have to question your first remark on 'excellent or scathing reviews'. The St Georges actually if you scroll through all the reviews since the refurbishment and upgrading to 4 star attracts 90% plus excellent and very good ratings. Tripadvisor being a public site is open to all views being expressed and we can only hope the reader takes all this into account on making their assessment. We believe St Georges is endorsed, by the overall reviews placed, as a consistent quality hotel who will listen to the feedback and reviews to keep improving.
You have offered balanced reviews and comments which we do appreciate and if any aspects did detract from your overall enjoyment then we are sorry.
Breakfast occassionally is served hot buffet style the food is brought out on arrival of the first guests for quality reasons if this delayed your breakfast then again we do regret any inconvenience.
We are unsure of your reasons for your comments regarding our opera guests, however when the Welsh National Opera are performing in Llandudno we have a loyal client base who are opera fans and book individual short breaks.
As for being typical clientele well that is wide and varied and also includes you.
We do hope on returning to Llandudno you will consider returning to St Georges and appreciate that you will recommend us to your friends.

Two night weekend break, our first in this lovely hotel. Although our double room was smaller than I expected it was very comfortable and clean with complimentary bottles of water as well as the usual toiletries. Staff were very attentive and dinner in the restaurant was excellent, good choice, piping hot and delicious. Breakfast could not be faulted with a good selection of cereals, fruit, including figs, melons and berries, and an excellent cooked breakfast. Despite the breakfast room being full because of a private function the previous ( Saturday) night ,service was very good and staff worked hard to meet the demand. The only niggle I have was with the noise from the Saturday night function. Our room was at the back of the hotel and although on the second floor (210) the noise levels were higher than I would have expected.
I would go back to the hotel but only if a front-facing room was available.

This is an imposing hotel in a prime location on Llandudno's promenade with lovely views across the bay on one side, the Great Orme and Snowdonia on the others. I was lucky enough to get a first floor room with a balcony - very nice except that my neighbours used their balconies for smoking which made it hard for me to spend any time on mine. Lovely spacious room and bathroom and the complimentary water and toiletries were replenished every day.
The food was pretty good and the kitchen provided alternatives to suit the needs of individuals. The vegetarian meals were a bit predictable perhaps but still pretty good. Breakfast was just excellent - good fresh fruit buffet and good range of cooked options.
Friendly staff with time for us and our conference but also for the other guests - mainly elderly people it seemed.
I have only one suggestion for improving this hotel and that is to move the smoking area away from the front door porch. Incredibly this hotel encourages smokers to gather in its lovely entrance porch and puff away. It creates a really down at heel first impression and the smell of cigarettes creeps into the hotel lobby.

Thank you for your comments and foregoing the points on smoking it seems you really enjoyed your stay even if it was on business and attending a conference.
In regards to smoking St Georges has a no smoking policy throughout.
We do not encourage smokers to stand at the hotel porch and actually there are signs requesting no smoking in the porch.
Sadly there are smokers who are considerate and ones that aren't.
Also being a listed building applications for smoker's shelters have not been approved.
Thank you again and the whole feedback from your conference was so very positive we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

We stayed at The St Georges for one night in February 2010 and I must admit that having read some of the excellent guest reviews on Trip Advisor we were somewhat disappointed.

We paid £120 for B&B and a sea view room, not cheap. The room was lovely. Although rather small it was clean, quiet, newly refurbished and a super view out across the bay, It was other aspects of the hotel where we were disappointed;

Check in - the duty receptionist was continually distracted by other tasks/ phone calls and in my view failed to give us the necessary level of attention. I was asked where had I parked my car (on the seafront on a pay & display meter) but only found out later that I could have parked FOC in the hotel car park

Check out - again the duty receptionist was distracted, this time by another member of staff. Also at £120 per night I was surpriseed to be asked to pay a surchaarge in settling my bill by credit card.

The bar - after a trip to the theatre, on our return to the hotel at 10:30 pm and because of some private function taking place, we could not get anywhere near the hotel bar for a nightcap so retired to our room, where there was not even a minibar. Why did the private function not have its own bar, leaving some available service for hotel residents?

Breakfast - this was the biggest disappointment of our stay. Staff were totally disorganised (three different waiters/waitresses tried to take our order) and we waited far too long for our cooked breakfast to arrive. When it did arrive, when ordering a "full Welsh breakfast" I expect it to include more than just one shriveled up piece of bacon and the most pathetic sausage I have ever been served at breakfast!

In conclusion, my wife and I are regular visitors to Llandudno and there are many quality hotels available which are less expensive and generally less disappointing. Sorry, but it is unlikely we will return to the St Georges
