“No room at the Inn”
Reviewed 16 August 2009

We planned to stay at this hotel in August for 2 nights & pre-booked a month in advance via a link on their Internet page. On completing the booking, the hotels booking agent asks for half the money. We paid this amount immediately as we wanted to secure the Family Room we had booked. The next day the hotel telephoned to confirm the travellers names & ages, which I thought was good Customer Service. After this I never thought much about it as I presumed everything was fine & we would just turn up at our destination. How wrong could I be!
A couple of days before we were due to turn up at our destination, we had a phone call from the hotel to say that they had double booked our room with a French family that were staying for the week. As a consequence, we were offered an alternative Hotel just down the road. We wanted to stay at the Kimnel though because of it's ajoining family rooms & we didn't get that with the alternative (although the alternative was much more Friendly - The Oasis). We were offered no refunds & were given a half hearted apology, poor Customer Service in my opionion.

Very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel with our two grandchildren.
Well run, clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast and good attentive staff.
Prior to booking we knew there was no lift and that maybe the car park could be full at times.
Until the last review had not realised that TV reception was poor!!! So if you want to sit in your room watching the television and thinking of writing a script for the Hotel Inspector this is not the place for you.
The hotel has not recieved its high ratings by luck and we very much hope to return for a longer stay.

Initial greeting was poor. We had managed to find our way to the car park and entered to the rear of the hotel. After wandering around for a while we finally found our way to the reception on the other side of the hotel - a small sign signalling the reception would have been helpful!
We were greated by a young lad who was dressed in 'sweat' clothes and looked and acted as though he were about to go to bed. While he was polite and attempted to move us to a lower room (more on that later) he really needed a course in charisma and dealing with guests efficiently (as did the other front desk young woman we encountered the following day - no greeting from the owners at any point which made it feel much less homely).
As mentioned, staff initially attempted to move us to a lower room as, although we had requested a room on a lower floor in our online booking as we knew they had no lift, our request had not been noted and we had been placed on the top floor (apparently it's a waste of time booking online and guests are better off ringing to book if you have a request). We couldn't be moved however (although they left us waiting to see overnight so we couldn't unpack or settle in, but then failed to tell us anything in the morning - we had to chase them) and had to contend with the four flights of stairs every time we returned to the room.

The room itself was ok although the ensuite only had a bath, which was a very small bath and difficult to bathe properly in! I enjoyed sitting on the sofa by the window looking out at a good view of the seafront (not a lot else to do as the reception on the tele was rubbish), but I will say it was the only way you could look out of the window as being on the top floor the window was small and very low down.
Also with the room being on the top floor, it was very hot! Tried to sleep with the window open but noise from the occasional drunk and the noisy party next door made us close the windows every night - and wake up sweltering at 4am!
Beds were made and towels replaced as requested, however biscuits and tea/coffee etc were not replaced daily.

Breakfast was lovely with a good buffet style breakfast which I personally like; some cereal, grapefruit, yoghurts, orange juice and cooked breakfast, but could improve with a wider selection of juices, cereals, yoghurt flavours and toast toppings! Breakfast waiting staff were brilliant and very on the ball making sure you had your drinks as soon as you sat down, plenty of toast and dirty plates whisked away promptly.

Anyone who knows Llandudno will know that parking can be a nightmare so it's good that the hotel has a car park, however it's not very big and after going out one day, couldn't get back in the car park for nearly the rest of our stay. Not a lot they can do about it but guests beware!

Lastly I must say the location of the hotel is very good, shops are just down the road and the pier is only a 5 or so minute walk away. Also the Venue Cymru is only a short walk down the road so is a great location for short theatre breaks.

Overall, I'd give this hotel 5/10. Plus points are great breakfast, good location and comfortable rooms. Bad points are average service from desk staff, car park not big enough, no lift and poor access for disabled users, no shower in our ensuite and room was comfortable but nothing special.

We stayed at the Kinmel for four nights in late July and it was a very pleasurable experience, from the outside the building looks very nice with a great central location on the promenade, the parking to the rear is free but a little limited. Inside everywhere is very clean and inviting, the furnishings and decor in the downstairs public areas feel as though they are geared towards the tastes of a more mature clientelle, but very homely and cozy. The room we had on the second floor was a standard double with a wonderful sea view which also overlooked the great and little orms which made for a lovely backdrop. Again the room was very clean and had a slightly more modern feel, the room was cleaned with all the different toiletries, biscuits and drinks topped up daily. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was also very good with plenty of hot water and a decent shower. The breakfast was included in the price and was excellent, with cereals, fruit , yoghurts and a very well cooked full english buffet. We ate out every night so can't comment on the evening meals, but they certainly smelt appealing everytime we passed by the dinning area. Finally the staff were very friendly and efficient always eager to please and help with any queries or requests. It was a lovely break, I would certainly recommend the Kinmel for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

rooms a little bit dated could do with a better colour scheme, staff dont bother you much they seem always busy, they are reasonably friendly, only had breakfast but food was good and selection was also good, hotel placed in a good central sea front position for shops, pier etc, parking has limited space for approximatley 14 vehicles ,i think £70.00 a night is a bit over priced for this hotel i think £65.00 maximum is a true reflection of what it offers, overall i had a pleasant stay but would try somewhere else next time i would rate the kinmel 7/10

We stayed in a 3rd floor seaview room for two nights in July. There is no elevator so bringing the suitcases up took some muscle. The hotel has on-site parking behind the building. The view from the room was directly out on to the Promenade and sea. The room itself was very nice with lots of nice touches (cookies, etc.) and was nicely decorated. The bed, however, was somewhat uncomfortable with an overly soft mattress. The bathroom was very large with a full size tub and shower. The water in the shower was a little unpredictable and we also had some problems with the toilet flushing properly throughout our stay, though. The hotel was full so I guess one might expect such problems in a historic building such as this one.

The owner, Sarah, was at the desk for most of our stay. She was so friendly and helpful! The breakfast was very good and served buffet style with options for freshly cooked eggs. The server at breakfast was fantastic as well! There is a nice lobby with lots of comfortable chairs, a big selection of newspapers, a big TV and a small bar to hang out in when it's raining too much to enjoy the beautiful Wales coast.

The hotel is right in the center of the Promenade, close to all kinds of restaurants and right on the Promenade and close to the Pier. We will stay here again if we return to Llandudno.

Just returned from Kinmel Hotel where wife and I had a long weekend. The food was excellent both morning and evening ,buffet breakfast was hot and plentiful. All the staff were helpful and polite rooms were clean and stocked with tea coffe hot chocolate biscuits and water .The fact that there was no lift could present a problem for the elderly and infirm but it walked off the meals.Hotel is handy for theatre(10% discount on tickets for venue cymri) and all central attractions. Would definitly go again
