“great girlie break”
Reviewed 1 December 2012

My friend and I stayed at the Grand for the weekend to visit the Christmas market. We booked a twin room and were concerned initially to find we had been given a double! However, we realised it was in fact a family room so we actually had a double and a sofa bed which was fine. The room had the most amazing picture window and view and had a living area with table, chairs and the sofa (bed). So we had loads of room. We also had a whirlpool bath! There was lots of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk. The room was snug and clean. There was loads of hot water and fluffy towels. There were a few chips and scrapes but overall we were thrilled with our room for the price (the room was £60 per night). The breakfast was plentiful with no restrictions on amount of food or drinks. We would definitely stay there again particularly if we could stay in room 97!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. Family rooms are very spacious.

Thanks for the lovely review of our hotel.

The sea view family rooms are indeed lovely and spacious; we are happy to let these rooms go to 2 guests outside of the childrens school holidays.
During school holidays they are always popular; for anyone reading this for a family sea view booking, ask for a room 'downstairs'.

Glad you enjoyed our 'all you can eat Britannia beakfast'; it certainly sets you up for the day, especially for tramping round the shops and the Christmas market.

Once again, thank you for taking the time and effort to review the Grand.

Really enjoyed our short stay at The Grand. Although the room was a little compact, the view of the bay from our window made up for it. The bed was rather hard, but surprisingly comfortable. Bedding and towels were spotless. Bathroom/shower were clean. Tea/coffee were plentiful in the room. We stayed on the Turkey & Tinsel deal which was good value. Breakfast was varied and plentiful as was the evening meal. Evening entertainment was OK.

Loved the creaky floorboards across the landing, although I was glad we did not have a room in that area.

Staff were very courteous and due to our early arrival we were allowed access to our room without having to wait until 2 p.m. check-in time.

Would not hesitate at returning to the Grand. Great value for money.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view.

Thank you for the lovely view; we really appreciate people taking the time to review our hotel.
It sounds like you had a great short break and the Turkey & Tinsel will certainly get you in the mood for Christmas.

We have 15 Christmas Days until the actual event so we have plenty of practice.

Glad to see you wouldn't hesitate to return to the hotel so hopefully we will see you soon.

We have stayed here many times and yes, it is sad that such a beautiful building is falling into such disrepair. We had a family room which was spacious and roomy, had everything we needed but once again with one cleaner per floor how can you expect perfection? Bedding, towels etc refreshed daily which is better than most hotels. Staff very helpful and friendly as usual, mealtimes were pleasant with excellent service, but unfortunately the evening meal a bit of a let down, which is a shame because the food is from 3663 therefore pre-prepared in the main. Breakfast plentiful with good variety, hot and well cooked

Thank you for taking time to review our hotel.

The building is 110 years old and I agree it needs some exterior work but hopefully the interior and my staff make up for any shortcomings. I have passed your comments on to the Chef, both good and bad although I would like to point out the food is not prepared by 3663.
I do not normally have negative comments about the food and I can only apologise on this occasion for any shortfall in standards.

I am pleased to see you have stayed here many times before which hopefully you will continue to do so.

I recently travelled up to Llandudno with my Mum for the Turkey & Tinsel Week's stay at The Grand and i really want to begin by saying that the hotel provided us with what we required which was of course the accommodation, food and evening entertainment.

We travelled up with 'Majestic Holidays' which, for me personally, was a first and i have to say they were very obliging, very courteous and for the money we paid, they do exactly what they say on the tin. Our driver was a very pleasant chap and helped to make our week a memorable one.

Now, hmmm the hotel. We were saying all through our stay that you couldn't really pinpoint a specific problem, though the rooms were shabby and tired looking and the overall cleanliness of the place was quite poor. Improvement is needed and i think this needs to be in the form of some financial investment by Britannia Hotels and sooner rather than later.

However, we had a relaxing week. The beds were comfortable and we slept well which was a plus. The food was, i have to say, pretty good right through the week, the evening entertainment was passable (with the bingo being the highlight! ;0) and we were able to travel out each day and do the things we wanted to do.

We would definately travel up to Llandudno again as we love the area anyhow. Would we stay at The Grand again. Hmmm not sure. Brittania Hotels come on now... You know what you have to do!

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

I am so pleased to see we provided you with all you required. Good food, clean comfy bed and nightly entertainment which of course will not be to everyones taste.

You gave the hotel 4 stars so hopefully this is a reflection on your overall stay and you may consider trying us again. Majestic are indeed a good Company to travel with so maybe we will see you again in the future.

My Wife and i stayed there in October for Two nights, we stayed in one of the premier rooms overlooking the sea and with great views of the Pier and promenade . the place was mainly full of older persons and so the entertainment was primarily aimed at them with free entertainment every night , we didnt eat there but had a few drinks and saw some of the entertainment . it was a step back in time and we both loved it as this place was once a very splendid hotel indeed and it is in the process of a refurb as i type , the room we had was spacious and clean and the staff very attentive, if you are after Luxury then this place is not for you but if you want a no nonsense old worldly hotel with a bit of history and wonderful views then you will love the place, would highly reccomend if only for a night but try and get a premier room if possible .

we have just returned from this hotel after a weekend break. first my partner went down with sickness bug then on sunday i went down with it, altogether 6 people on our trip were bed ridden and other geusts were ill as well at this time of year many old folk are going there on there annual tinsel and turkey week holiday and this is a very viscious bug and the hotel know about it but dont seem to tell anyone about it, better to be safe than sorry as we are young fit people and it stopped us in our tracks. we were in room 217 and were told this room would not be used for 72 hours but as we were leaving the cleaning girls were already waiting to go in, it is a great shame that profits are put before peoples welfare. Please ring the hotel before you go as i wouldnt want anyone to go through what we have just been through.

Room Tip: When there is a outbreak of this kind i dont think any room is a good room,

To say I am stunned at this review is an understatement. The group leader of this couple came to see me personally to apologise for bringing the Norovirus into our hotel. Members of the group had already contracted the virus prior to their arrival at the Grand.

Room 217 was NOT used on their departure. Every room in the group (even if no Norovirus was present) was sanitzed and steam cleaned and left empty as per the hotel policy.

Thankfully the hotel is clear of any Norovirus but as ever the hotel always bears the brunt of responsibilty of an outbreak when in reality it is a guest that unknowingly brings it into the hotel.

Norovirus is prevelant throughout the UK in schools and hospitals and not exclusive to hotels and cruise ships.

Thank you for the great review.

It sounds like you had a great weekend and were well looked after by my staff which is always a pleasure to hear. I have passed your favourable comments on to the chef.

Llandudno is indeed a lovely little town and well worth a visit and we hope you want to visit it again soon.
