Just returned from a fabulous short stay in Llandudno over the Easter weekend. We were after a a good value for money, last minute stay within the UK as trips to the continent or even trains and flights to Scotland were at ridiculous prices!
Llandudno looked like an interesting place to go. Coastal, picturesque, and in an amazing part of the country we've not been before. We came across The Wllton just by chance. TripAdvisor showed glowing reviews (ranked 9th in Llandudno says it all!) and fortunately they had availability if we booked direct.
On the booking front, I would highly recommend going direct as although the usual websites do offer The Wilton, the hotel has it's own website and on there clearly states the best deals can be found on their own website. Also on this instance last minute rooms were not available on third party sites but we managed to get our direct. At around £70 per night for a room, including breakfast we thought this was excellent value for money.
We arrived by around 1pm on Good Friday (a busy day for the hotel no doubt!) and were fortunate enough to secure one of the hotel's parking spots behind the hotel. I think they have about 3-5 spaces for guests at the back plus a small number of permits to park in the road outside the hotel.
Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly greeted by Jo who quickly handed us the room keys and made us familiar with the hotel and the local area. That was the check-in process. No lengthy form filling etc as I guess they had all our details from the online booking. Perfect!
We had secure room 2 which was on the 1st floor - very convenient as the hotel doesn't have a lift. The room is at the back of the hotel and is literally as per the photos in their website! Bright, simple, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. It's not a huge room, but reasonable for the location and type of hotel. The en-suite bathroom was also a reasonable size and again spotlessly clean, unlike some of the reviews we've seen for smaller hotels in the area and around the UK. The room comes complete with a hospitality tray with the basic tea and coffee and some nice biscuits. There's also a document pack with details of places to see and eat at in the local area, complete with menus for some of the places. Very useful! Oh, and of course there is free WiFi in the room :-).
A pleasant, comfortable room.
Breakfast is also lovely. Served between 8:30 and 9:15. They had a selection of juices, fruits and cereals and traditional hot breakfast items to suit most people's needs... tea, coffee, toast, mushrooms, hashbrowns, eggs, bacon sausages, the usual... freshly made and served with a smile, tasty, wholesome and filling! This is all included in the price by the way! :-)
The hotel is also has a very good location. Unfortunately no direct sea view rooms. Maybe you can see the sea from some of the front facing rooms if you look from the correct angle. But the hotel is right by the sea, less than 25m the promenade and the main shopping is just around the corner as well as the area's main cafes and restaurants all within a short walking distance. Llandudno being a small town the hotel's central location is of course perfect to get to all the main site's which are all a stone's throw away.
We really enjoyed our stay here, everything was perfect... thanks Jo for the wonderful hospitality and thanks Llandudno for being such a wonderful part of the world :-)
