“Excellent Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2012

My husband and I decided to have a quick break, that did not cost a lot. We had never been to Llandudno, and chose the Marine Hotal because if overlooked the sea and was central. We paid extra for the sea view and we were not disappointed. Marcus the manager could not do enough for us, and we were even greeted by him on arrival. Reception staff were aware of our requirements, and had been fully briefed. We had no concerns with the cleanliness of the room. and the bathroom had clearly been recently refurbished. The food was fine with three courses and coffee for dinner and full cooked breakfast, with porridge or kippers what more could you want. Restaurant staff were efficient and helpful. Llandudno was delightful, the area was clean and the shops were good, the flat promanade was great for that evening stroll. We used the car during the day and toured the area - an excellent 3 day break for not a lot of money.

Room Tip: Recommend paying for the sea view - and you have to accept that there will be seagulls at the sea si...

This is a basic hotel with a good location and friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are quite clean, the food continues to be terrible. The chef, who's been with them several years, needs to reevaluate his use of corn starch as an ingredient in everything: porridge, scrambled eggs, soup, mashed potatoes, etc. (He calls it "cream")
I've noticed that the web site has for several years warned that the disabled lift in the front is out of service. It's time they either fix it or remove it and put in a ramp.

Chef doesn't use corn starch quite as much as you have stated but I have passed your comments on to him for review. Marcus Williams, General Manager

This was our first coach trip and it started when the weather was just a complete downpour. The seats on the coach were so close together our knees were rubbing on the seats in front. I am 5ft.6in and my husband 6ft.2in. I had read some of the comments regarding the Marine Hotel and was more than a little anxious. The journey there seemed to take ages because there was an excursion on the way to Llandudno and also because we could only arrive at The Marine Hotel for approx 4pm. to check in - we were the last to be picked up at Bolton Bus Station at 10.10am so it seemed forever! The room I had booked for us was a sea view/twin bed and it was a FABULOUS view, The room was really big - OK it could have done with a little modernising wallpaper etc., but the beds were very comfy. The bathroom/shower was very clean and long-the chambermaid kept us well stocked with tea/coffee etc and clean towels. I found all the staff very courtious and professional and well dressed, they represented the Hotel very well - was impressed. The food was basic but ok plenty to choose from - although the portions for the main meal was a little on the small side but nevertheless adequate. The entertainment was good although there was nothing at all on the Sunday evening. On leaving I could not find my glasses case which in conjunction with the glasses proved very expensive - I mentioned that I had lost this to the receptionist although I wasn't quite sure where I had left it. On the way home we had a different coach thank heavens which was more comfortable and yet another excursion [for a change!] to Chester this time. Surpise surprise the Hotel rang Kelly said glasses case found and would post them to me, thank you so much!

Room Tip: third floor room 312 right on the front facing the sea - you can see everything! Room really big.

We stayed in a standard double bedroom with what looked like a new shower room. It was clean and tidy and had plenty of room for all our belongings. We did not hear much noise from the rest of the hotel but we did hear the seagulls, sometimes into the early hours, but we were staying on the seafront so that could be expected. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, especially our waiter Ivan. The meals were fine and although I read here that the portions were small they was plenty for us. We paid for a parking space which I was glad of; as when we arrived and then again when we come back from a trip, it was pouring with rain. So I felt it well worth the money. In fact I thought the hotel was good value for money all round.

We stayed in a twin room - clean and comfortable EXCEPT for noise from squeaking floorboards all around during the night - returned home needing a good night's sleep! It is an old building and some refurbishment is surely called for. Also - they can't do much about the seagulls, but some double glazing might help with the noise!
No problems with the food - it is a low cost break, after all - and the hotel is in an excellent position on the prom. No need to pay the extra for parking, unless you have walking difficulties.

Hello Froggyphile, many thanks for your review. There are plans for refurbishment but no word on when just yet, when the works take place the floor boards should be addressed then. Glad you enjoyed your break. Marcus Williams, General Manager

We booked(last minute)standard twin,well-ventilated room, drove ourselves, but had seats on the coach for trips(yes you can do this!).Able to check in before coaches arrived & was told to park at their overspill a few doors away-no charge.Given room 208 on side opposite the Imperial (& we could see the sea), which was a very large twin, contemporary styled but could have done with a shower cubicle & who fixed the toilet pan skewiff to the cistern?!! All the staff excellent-our waiter,Miguel(small restaurant,Prince Albert) very efficient & pleasant-but meals although well presented were average.Entertainment was very poor in comparison to their other hotel, the County, but we did enjoy the pool(was a bit whiffy in showers!).Trips good(except for rain!)& driver Lee was very informative.Yes,the hotel is a mix of 70's,80's up to the noughties, but if you want 4*,you should go next door & pay the extra.

Stayed at the Marine 22nd June to 25th June. A self drive family break with my elderly parents. One of whom is quite immobile.
Was initially concerned after reading reviews on tripadvisor on the hotel. No need for concern at all.
Our stay was very enjoyable. Hotel perfectly situated for sea front walks and also only a short stroll to shopping centre and town centre.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and tidy. Very spacious. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble. The meals were lovely and the service in the restaurant was very professional.

Room Tip: Worth paying a little more for sea views.
