Have just got back from 3 nights at the Marine Hotel. Had an excellent time in Llandudno - super weather and lots of things nearby to see, however I would stay somewhere else if we returned.
Location - The location is the best thing about this hotel as it is right on the promonade and close to beach and shops. It's not got a great atmosphere though as it mostly caters for older travellers so the bar and one of the dining rooms is often in silence, despite being quite busy. Might be your thing but not really ours!
Food - I'd heard lots of good things about Shearing's hotels and their food but we were very disappointed. Everything felt like it had been cooked hours prior to serving and then reheated. Veg was tasteless and cold desserts were room temp - making us feel they had been plated at beginning of service. There was also a feeling of being rushed. As soon as you'd finished your starter you were asked what main course you wanted and this was bought immediately. You weren't even allowed coffee at the end of your meal, you had to leave the dinig hall and sit in the ballroom if you wanted coffee. The first night we ate a 3 course meal in 40 minutes! After that we kept asking the waitress to give us a little more time.
Rooms - The room was ok, quite basic but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom looked quite new. Although make sure you defintiely put the catch down on the door if you stay here as on 2 occasions the housekeeping lady walked in without knocking!
To summerise, we paid £100 each for 3 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal and at this price, the hotel was ok value for money. The general walk in price is a lot more than this and I think most people would be disappointed if they paid much more.
