“Only go if you get a cheap deal!”
Reviewed 29 July 2008

Have just got back from 3 nights at the Marine Hotel. Had an excellent time in Llandudno - super weather and lots of things nearby to see, however I would stay somewhere else if we returned.

Location - The location is the best thing about this hotel as it is right on the promonade and close to beach and shops. It's not got a great atmosphere though as it mostly caters for older travellers so the bar and one of the dining rooms is often in silence, despite being quite busy. Might be your thing but not really ours!

Food - I'd heard lots of good things about Shearing's hotels and their food but we were very disappointed. Everything felt like it had been cooked hours prior to serving and then reheated. Veg was tasteless and cold desserts were room temp - making us feel they had been plated at beginning of service. There was also a feeling of being rushed. As soon as you'd finished your starter you were asked what main course you wanted and this was bought immediately. You weren't even allowed coffee at the end of your meal, you had to leave the dinig hall and sit in the ballroom if you wanted coffee. The first night we ate a 3 course meal in 40 minutes! After that we kept asking the waitress to give us a little more time.

Rooms - The room was ok, quite basic but the beds were comfortable and the bathroom looked quite new. Although make sure you defintiely put the catch down on the door if you stay here as on 2 occasions the housekeeping lady walked in without knocking!

To summerise, we paid £100 each for 3 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal and at this price, the hotel was ok value for money. The general walk in price is a lot more than this and I think most people would be disappointed if they paid much more.

My husband and I spent 5 days at this hotel. It is a Shearings Hotel and we drove there
In the past we have stayed in a few Shearings Hotels and have had no complaints - that is until we stayed in this one
Our room was smelling of paint which didn't help my husband who has asthma. We had to keep the window open all the time we were there and unfortunately there were gale force winds
We asked for an upgrading but were told the hotel was fully booked
The room was also shabby looking and dusty
When trying to use the shower it would not drain and one had to paddle in a pool of cold water to attempt to have a quick shower
The maintenance man who tried to unblock the drain told us that the shower had been wrongly installed during refurbishment and that if we required to shower we should leave the tap running in the wash-hand basin which should solve the problem - it did not
The staff were mostly Eastern European and the Reception Staff were very unfriendly and unsympathetic to our complaints
The room opposite ours was also being "refurbished" this included banging by the workmen fitting carpets etc and again the smell of paint

We stayed at the Marine Hotel as a group of 34 people on a walking weekend. From arrival until departure the staff were friendly and courteous and keen to help with anything asked of them. The dining room procedures for breakfast and evening meal ran very smoothly and very quickly and we were very well looked after . You would not starve if you were a fussy eater.

Personally I would definitely stay there again.

Thank you.

We have just enjoyed a stay at the marine Hotel and would recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was good and the meals very good. It's position is very central with a quiet promenade on one side and lovely shopping streets just round the corner, many under victorian canopies.
How many seaside towns are as unspoilt as Llandudno
We would definitely stay there again.

My wife and myself along with friends have used the Marine Hotel a number of times over the years so I was rather surprised at some of the remarks made about the present staff,so we decided to try it again ourselfs. We stayed for 3 nights on a self drive basis we found the food excellent the accomodation was excellent including the squeeky floor boards. The staff we found to be as friendly and as helpful as ever even though as stated by other travelers most of them appear to be imigrants from Eastern Block countries. They always had a smile for us and as far as the language problem went, they could speak a lot better English than we could speak Polish and we had no comunication problems what so ever.

Just got back from a 4day tour with national express. Imust say that the hotel was better than i expected. The booking in was very quick and all the staff were very friendly. The service in the resturant was good, and the food was exceptionally good, a choice of 4 meals at dinner, and 3choices of sweets which were delicious. It was a shame about the weather which was rainy and windy, couldnt take many photos. Will definateley go to this hotel in the near future.
