“good value for money”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

although this is an old hotel Shearings are updating the rooms & facilities. The staff are very friendly & helpful Kelly the receptionist was very helpful when we had a problem. We had a lovely room with good decor & furnishings. There is plenty of choices on the menus with waiter service. The entertainment was also good.

The hotel is on the sea front with a lounge area overlooking the bay with a lovely big open roaring fire to keep the chill out & literally around the corner from the town. All in all we enjoyed our short break & would go again.

Room Tip: pay the extra for a sea view room its worth it.

We recently returned from a five day National Holiday that we had booked presuming that a Shearings hotel would be more that acceptable. We were allocated room 227, a bedroom on the second floor, which was reached by a walk through the entertainment room and over the dance floor/stage area and up in a very tatty lift. The room was grubby for want of a better description and not one of the ones that had recently been refurbished. I decided to check the bed and can only say I still feel sick every time I think of it as it looked as though someone had been murdered on the bed and had wiped their hands on the curtains. When we complained the duty manager told us that there were no other empty rooms available for us to move to but he did oblige by having the mattress changed (the old one was later seen from our room in the skip at the back of the hotel). The public rooms could also do with a refurbish and currently remind me of an old peoples home.

The food is very mediocre and to be honest the portions were not really big enough for us and toiletries have to be begged from reception. When they served me a fish portion that looked and tasted as though it had come from Sellafield I decided a visit to see the hotel manager was needed. After showing him photographs and a good talk I must say he did all he could to put our minds at rest for which I do thank him.

We were allocated a newly refurbished room (room 224), which had become available, and the restaurant manager was instructed to allocate extra portions to us and give us whatever we wanted. Again, thank you to those concerned. Would I use this hotel again.............only if refurbished.

Room Tip: Don't have room 227.

Hello bluebilly26, I remember discussing the issues you were experiencing during your stay and I am glad we had the opportunity to address your needs whilst you were here. When we spoke your husband confirmed he had enjoyed the meals served and that you had both been asked every night if you had had enough to eat or if you would like anything else. I am pleased this was addressed for you. Additional toiletries are available from reception but it is not necessary to beg for them. The hotels refurbishment is on going so I look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for your post, Marcus Williams, General Manager

My wife and I visited this hotel on 20th January 2014 for 5 days. We had never stayed in this hotel before, but we had looked inside the hotel in 2012 while we were staying at the sister hotel, The County, which is about a mile along the sea front away from the town centre. The reason we chose this hotel on this occasion was because everything is on one level, whereas at the County some of the facilities were below ground. On arrival at the Marine Hotel we were pleasantly surprised at the refurbishments that were taking place. Everything looked crisp and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We booked a twin room on high floor with lift. The lift was clean, large and serviceable. In fact it looked very new. When we got to our room, we could see that it had very recently been refurbished. There was still a very faint smell of fresh paint. The room was well furnished with a new shower and toilet facilities. We also had a medium sized flat screen television, with all the freeview channels. There are two restaurants on the ground floor, which were well laid out. The meals were of the same standard as you get at any Shearings Hotel. They seem to have standardised meals throughout the UK now, even the same menus. It is only a short walk into the town centre, and it's all on one level. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with a good choice of retail outlets.

Room Tip: The upgrades seem to have started from the top going down.

Just returned from a 5 day break with National Holidays at this hotel. The holiday got off with a bad start as the bus broke down in Wakefield and we was waiting in Leeds for the pick up. We finally set of at 11-30, 2 hours late. We had a sea view room which was very large and had everything we needed. The food was ok (not five star) but had not paid 5star money.our waitress Susanna was very good, and friendly. The entertainment was good and we had a good laugh. Drinks not cheap, but we did get 4free drinks on gala night. A good time was had by all ( 6 ladies ) and would go back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms very good (had to pay extra)

Hi Ann K, a 2 hour delay is not a good start but I am glad that everything else was too your liking and that you and your party would consider returning. I will let Zsuzsanna know she has had a mention, as all of the hotel staff like to know they have made a difference. Thank you for the post. Marcus Williams, General Manager.

Booked the five day holiday with national holidays, on booking asked for a ground floor room, I was told requests were not always honoured, what they didn't tell me that there were no ground floor bedrooms. We were given first floor bedrooms which caused my 86 year old father a great distress as you have to walk the length of the ballroom to get to the lift, also on an evening if you want to go to bed early you have to walk across the stage area where the people are dancing which causes embarrassment, it is possible to actually take a different lift but the walking distance to the room is even greater. The toilet in my fathers was in such a small area was so small anyone other than an average size could not fit on it.
On the good side the food was good, the waitresses were helpful and smiling,
the position of the hotel is brilliant for all the shops.
I reported to the reception that the shower head would not stay in its holder, which meant that I had to stand and hold it or let it flood the bathroom floor, a risk of causing damage to the ceiling and floor beneath , but it was not repaired.

Hi shoehappylinda, I am sorry that the room allocated was not entirely suitable for you. I would always recommend that anybody travelling to one of our hotels contacts us before they arrive. The more we know about your needs the better as it enables us to better allocate your room and we can give you hotel specific information too. On the positive side, it is good to read that you enjoyed your meals and the service provided. Thank you for your post. Marcus Williams, General Manager.

I stayed at the Marina Hotel whilst on a 4 Day Break with National Holidays. This was my first visit to Llandudno and it was a very pleasant experience. My first impression of the Hotel was awesome. The location is perfect overlooking the pier and promenade. The town centre is a short walk away and hosts a good selection of High street shops and various designer shops. On arrival at the Hotel we had to wait a little while until the rooms were available. This was no problem as there is an Excellent Coffee Lounge where we sat and enjoyed a coffee and a light snack. The rooms was perfect. it was clean an spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. The quality of the food was very good and though it was very busy the staff were very efficient.

Room Tip: If possible select a sea view as the outlook is amazing. My preference is a high floor as I find it m...

We have just had an interewsting trip with Shearings to this hotel. The hotel was in good cxondition and right in the middle of Llandudno, within walking distance of shops and other attractions. The breakfast and evening meal was excellent and we were served well by our waitress, nothing was too much trouble for her. Take care of her Shearings, she will be a good advertisement for you. The only downside to our holiday was that the lager and guinness were undrinkable. And why did they shut one of the bars at nighttime causing a huge queue at the only bar open. I would recommend not stopping in the hotel for the evening as there are other places for a drink within walking distance.
