This was a return visit to this hotel, & we did it on a party weekend special. This was Friday to |Sunday inclusive & was excellent value for money. The hotel is part of the Shearings Group, & we did it on a 'self-drive' basis although most people do it on a coach holiday. The weekend included '4 free drinks each on the saturday night which made the break even better value. The cost of this break was under £100 per person, & it is something that we shall be doing again.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a Sea View room & this is well worth it as the hotel is right on the front, &a...

The Marine Hotel sits right on the promenade in Llandudno. We did enjoy our stay there. The food was excellent and the dining room waitress was excellent. The hotel had recently been refurbished and our room was very nice. What let it down was the tiny bathroom. We are of average size and found it difficult to move in it. The water would not empty in the wash hand basin and when I reported it to the Manager. He said they had tried everything to fix it! Not a lot of help there!
On the plus size the entertainment was excellent ad the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The Gala Dinner on the Saturday night was very good and the four drinks voucher was a bonus.

Room Tip: Don't take room 228

A typical Shearings hotel - we did the self drive option and were glad that we had prepaid for on-site parking. However, we also paid the standard plus supplement and will not be doing that again. We were in Room 316 which overlooked the Promenade but it was a small room with a small window and you had to move a tub chair to access the wardrobe. The room had been redecorated and the furniture and fittings were new and the bed comfortable but the bathroom was it's biggest letdown - no shower and very little hot water. I believe the heated towel rail and the hot water was available during the day, when you don't need it, but come 6 o'clock on two evenings the water was slighly luke warm and on the third night there was an improvement with enough warm water for a couple of inches of bath but none for the second room occupant. Shearings definitely need to sort this problem out. Whilst we were there they were upgrading further rooms, I just hope that the bathrooms get an upgrade too, with showers available in all or at least customers informed that only some rooms have showers when they book.
Apart from this problem, the rest of the stay was good value for money - both breakfast and dinner were up to the usual standard with staff friendly and helpful, the receptionists were also helpful - provided me with a plastic jug so that I could wash my hair ( !!) and the entertainment appeared to be enjoyed by those participating. There is a lovely lounge area overlooking the promenade - an ideal place to sit when the wind is blowing and the rain pouring down. We didn't use the indoor swimming pool, but others did whilst we were there and you could hire towels from reception. The position of the hotel is it's best point - on the sea front yet very near the town centre with traditional shops and cafes and also a newish retail outlet. We would go again but would ensure that we requested a room with a shower on the second floor (larger windows) overlooking the sea.

Room Tip: Facing sea on second floor and request a shower if you would prefer one to a bath.

Hi JanePowys, I am sorry you did not find the room to your liking. It is true that the facilities in the bathrooms vary regarding bath or shower. We allocate rooms to the best of our ability based on the booking information provided. We now have the facility to book for specific rooms and are happy to discuss your needs at the time of booking to ensure you get the room that best suits you. Good to read you enjoyed the food and the service. Thank you for your post, Marcus Williams, General Manager.

although this is an old hotel Shearings are updating the rooms & facilities. The staff are very friendly & helpful Kelly the receptionist was very helpful when we had a problem. We had a lovely room with good decor & furnishings. There is plenty of choices on the menus with waiter service. The entertainment was also good.

The hotel is on the sea front with a lounge area overlooking the bay with a lovely big open roaring fire to keep the chill out & literally around the corner from the town. All in all we enjoyed our short break & would go again.

Room Tip: pay the extra for a sea view room its worth it.

We recently returned from a five day National Holiday that we had booked presuming that a Shearings hotel would be more that acceptable. We were allocated room 227, a bedroom on the second floor, which was reached by a walk through the entertainment room and over the dance floor/stage area and up in a very tatty lift. The room was grubby for want of a better description and not one of the ones that had recently been refurbished. I decided to check the bed and can only say I still feel sick every time I think of it as it looked as though someone had been murdered on the bed and had wiped their hands on the curtains. When we complained the duty manager told us that there were no other empty rooms available for us to move to but he did oblige by having the mattress changed (the old one was later seen from our room in the skip at the back of the hotel). The public rooms could also do with a refurbish and currently remind me of an old peoples home.

The food is very mediocre and to be honest the portions were not really big enough for us and toiletries have to be begged from reception. When they served me a fish portion that looked and tasted as though it had come from Sellafield I decided a visit to see the hotel manager was needed. After showing him photographs and a good talk I must say he did all he could to put our minds at rest for which I do thank him.

We were allocated a newly refurbished room (room 224), which had become available, and the restaurant manager was instructed to allocate extra portions to us and give us whatever we wanted. Again, thank you to those concerned. Would I use this hotel again.............only if refurbished.

Room Tip: Don't have room 227.

Hello bluebilly26, I remember discussing the issues you were experiencing during your stay and I am glad we had the opportunity to address your needs whilst you were here. When we spoke your husband confirmed he had enjoyed the meals served and that you had both been asked every night if you had had enough to eat or if you would like anything else. I am pleased this was addressed for you. Additional toiletries are available from reception but it is not necessary to beg for them. The hotels refurbishment is on going so I look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for your post, Marcus Williams, General Manager

My wife and I visited this hotel on 20th January 2014 for 5 days. We had never stayed in this hotel before, but we had looked inside the hotel in 2012 while we were staying at the sister hotel, The County, which is about a mile along the sea front away from the town centre. The reason we chose this hotel on this occasion was because everything is on one level, whereas at the County some of the facilities were below ground. On arrival at the Marine Hotel we were pleasantly surprised at the refurbishments that were taking place. Everything looked crisp and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We booked a twin room on high floor with lift. The lift was clean, large and serviceable. In fact it looked very new. When we got to our room, we could see that it had very recently been refurbished. There was still a very faint smell of fresh paint. The room was well furnished with a new shower and toilet facilities. We also had a medium sized flat screen television, with all the freeview channels. There are two restaurants on the ground floor, which were well laid out. The meals were of the same standard as you get at any Shearings Hotel. They seem to have standardised meals throughout the UK now, even the same menus. It is only a short walk into the town centre, and it's all on one level. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with a good choice of retail outlets.

Room Tip: The upgrades seem to have started from the top going down.
