Yes, we have had another holiday at The Marine Hotel. The last time I reviewed the hotel, I said I was disappointed not to receive the bottle of wine that was supposed to be included with our holiday. Well, I would like to point out, I was sent a £20 Shearings voucher as compensation. Along with the very good promotion that was on at the time of booking, this made for a very good offer.
The Hotel is in a favourable sea front position, with the shops just a few minutes walk away.
We had a newly refurbished room, with a glimpse of the sea front. The bathroom was on the small side but adequate and the bedding was crisp and white. ( room 103 ) The corridors need a refurbishment as are looking a bit tatty now.
Last year, I didn't think the meals were large enough for my husband, but this year, the portions were very generous, of a good standard and very tasty indeed.
We were served by a charming waiter, Peter, who was very courteous.
We decided to watch the entertainment on our last evening, ( Thursday ) and it was a good decision, as Dave Davies was an excellent entertainer. I laughed at his jokes, sang along with his songs and listened attentively to his guitar and sax music. I would definately recommend an evening in! My only negative would be the price of the drinks at the bar......a bit expensive.
Finally, thank you to all the staff. You were all very friendly at the reception desk and at the bar.
Best wishes,
Sue W.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished room. Also, you can request a window table in the Dining room, which wi...

Hi sue w, So glad you came back and thank you for leaving such a positive review. I do like to read how well the staff look after our guests and will of course pass your comments on to Peter. Regarding the size of the meals at dinner time this we addressed following comments made by yourself and others. If anyone does have any issues better to raise them with us whilst you are here as we always do our best to address them. Marcus Williams, General Manager

We have just got back from the Marine in Llandudno, now for a decent meal. The breakfast was o.k. but the standard of the evening meal is very poor and it is a case of take it or go without, there is no way that you can upgrade your evening meal and a lot of the evening meal consists of something knocked together from the previous days left overs.
The accomadation is quite good except for a bathroom that you and a cat would have difficulty getting int together, never mind swinging it round.
we had a problem with the car parking there and the girl "Hayley" and the manager need to get their stories straight because the contradict each other and then both back track only to go too far and still contradict each other. Someone between them tells porkies so be carefull if you take your own car.

Room Tip: We had room 203 which apart from the miniscual bathroom was nice and quiet.

Hi Lee B, Thank you for the scores you gave us for rooms, cleanliness, sleep quality and location. Your comments regarding food are fair though, we offer a variety of courses at every meal. The meals are prepared with fresh ingredients each day by chefs who take time to prepare them. Alternatives for people who have not liked/cannot eat off the menu have also been arranged. Regarding the parking I am sorry you got a parking ticket but no one in the hotel will tell you it is ok to park in a coach bay when it is not. As you did not give us your car registration at check-in we could not locate you out of the other 120 guests with cars to ask you to move. Marcus Williams, General Manager

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Marine Hotel from Friday - Monday over the spring bank holiday weekend. We have stayed there before and always enjoyed it. Nice choice of menu, lovely staff in all areas. The icing on the cake this visit was the newly refurbished bedroom, freshly decorated, new beds and furnishings. We will definitely be returning when we get the chance. A big "THANK YOU" to all at the hotel.

Room Tip: Paying the little extra for a sea view room is always worth it.

The Marine Hotel has very friendly and helpful staff, and is in a brilliant location.
Directly facing the wonderful beach and very near the shops.

The seafront room I had was a nice size single, and had been updated with more modern furniture and decorations.
The food is quite adequate and the waitress service was very fast and efficient.
Entertainment was rather hit and miss sadly, apart from the two nights when the regular hosts were absent. On these nights it was much better.
All in all the lovely location and the friendliness of the hardworking staff and the good value that this hotel offers, means it is an enjoyable experience.

I stayed here with my husband for our first wedding anniversary last weekend and was very impressed. We paid for a room upgrade and were very impressed by the cleanliness, sea view and level of finish. Ok the floor was a bit creaky, but the hotel is 180 - odd years old, likewise, the main enterance door banged and vibrated through our room (109)- but it did become white noise after a while. We did run out of hot water on the sunday morning - my advice is shower early! But the most rememberable thing was the staff service - nothing was too much trouble, we arrived after a nightmare journey, and they kept the resturant open so we could have our meal, even though service had just finished. Our waiter, although struggling with the language barrier a little, was always attentive and friendly. Similarly the reception staff - always helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful first anniversary there and will certainly be returning. Thank you.

Room Tip: Pay for the upgrade if you can - it's worth it.

Stayed here on Monday To Friday on a self drive package I have nothing bad to say really the staff genuinely do try to make everyone welcome. The food I thought was very good and well presented. Its another Victorian sea side Hotel so maintenance is always going to be an issue, there was problems with the hot water but it was sorted fairly quickly, you could be forgiven for thinking you were drunk as it has very a uneven creaky floor but that's all part of it being a very old Hotel. My room 317 was quite spacious and had recently been refitted, so no problem there however the old sash window did not open and I don't think it had been opened for some time I think its important to be able to open windows so rooms can be nicely aired, it could be a major problem to someone on a turkey tinsel week when they have been eating brussels sprouts or cabbage . The Hotel doe's have free wi fi in the public areas this isn't mentioned on the hotel website so you will be able to check your email and do a bit of surfing if that's your thing . So if your looking for a sea side break in a fairly central position then you should certainly consider this place.

We [my wife and I] have just returned from this Shearings owned hotel, on the whole the hotel was very good good but the BIG problem we encountered was the lack of hot water in the room[321], we spent 4 days [Fri - Mon] on a self-drive break and only on the Friday evening and Monday morning did we have enough hot water for both of us to enjoy a hot shower, at best one of us had a tepid shower whilst the other had cold showers, and this on the hottest weekend of the year so far.We complained to the duty manager on the Sunday morning who had the maintenance man look at the problem while we where out for the day. On Sunday evening still no hot water. A further complaint following cold showers we were offered the use of another room for a shower, this after the duty manager came up to the room to see the problem for himself. After running both Bath and Basin hot taps for 5 minutes he did manage to get hot water through the system but could not understand why it was only our room as no-one else had complained!!! On checkout on Monday morning another couple were asking for a room change as they could not get hot water to either Bath, Shower or Basin, Beware the cold showers.

This apart the rest of the hotel cannot be faulted, the food was excellent and our waitress for the weekend Katrina was very good, efficient and friendly. The room was very clean and modern. The public areas are clean and tidy. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable about the local area. The location cannot be faulted, slap bang in the middle of the promenade, handy for shops and bars.

Room Tip: Request one with good supply of hot water. On a lighter note a sea view makes for a better outlook t...

Hi Normanski214, Your second paragraph reads much better than the first so I believe you enjoyed your holiday aside from the issue with hot water. I can only say we are an old hotel with quirky pluming, but hot water was there eventually. We are investigating this situation to ensure it is corrected. Thank you for your review.
