Description: Watkins Co restaurant in Llandudno is an equation that comes out right every time. Take an award-winning restaurant, set it in one of Llandudnos top hotels, create an historic Victorian dining stuffed with formal elegance, add in an inventive chef with a dab hand at classic favourites and its elementary -- Watkins is a hit. Half the menu is seasonal, locally-sourced a la carte deliciousness, while the other half is a daily-changing table dhote menu offering excellent value. People love the home-made lasagne and the daily roast, but we recommend the more inventive creations, too. Watkins Cos service, impressive childrens menu and a pocket-friendly wine list get top marks.

We usually go to our golf club on a Friday night but because they had a big competition on we decided to find somewhere different. Our friends suggested the Empire and as we had not been there for years decide to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. A table by the poolside was just the ticket. Good friendly service, varied choice from the menu and you get a starter, main, dessert, coffee and a quarter carafe of wine for under £20. Excellent value for money. The only one gripe was that if you get drinks from the bar prior to you meal they won’t book them to your table as they say it’s a different department. However if you ask for extra drinks at your table they will add them to your bill!!!

We have visited the Poolside restaurant so many times and really enjoyed it, so thought we would try Watkins as we thought it would be a notch up from the poolside. What a mistake. Arrived to find the reserved table wasn't ready. When it was eventually read I was bitterly disappointed. We booked a table for two and as far as we could see the tables for two were in the worst position in the restaurant. Pushed up against the wall squeezed in behind large round tables. Hardly room to swing a cat as every time the people at the large round table got up their chairs almost touched ours. awful claustrophobic experience.

Service was rushed and we felt pushed to order quickly as the waiters were running round like headless chickens. The food was dropped on the table without a word of acknowledgement from the wait staff and twice two different waiters tried to take food and drinks that weren't finished (a G+T and a starter). Unbelievable.

As for the food, well what a disappointment. The starters were ok, but my main course was well below par and accompanied by a potato dauphenoise that was inedible. Its supposed to be made with garlic and cream but this one was clearly made with water. Tasteless mush is the best way to describe it. Desert was passable but when this side of the restaurant is more expensive than the Poolside I expected more. With wine we had little change out of £100 and for that price there are far, far better places to eat in Deganwy and Conwy.

Possibly the most disappointing dining experience in Llandudno. My advice would be to save your money and either go Poolside or if you want a fantastic buzzing quirky dining experience with fantastic food, then go to Paysanne in Deganwy.

Ate in the poolside room, excellent value for money, delicious courses except for the pate. No reduction for children is a shame.overall enjoyed and will go again, but can't bring the family. Did not stay in the hotel but on looking round would recommend it to my friends.

Wonderfully attentive staff.Great ambiance to the room. Elise, a granddaughter of the founder, a charming and efficient maitre de. Great place for a stylish dinner in Llandudno, at a very reasonable cost.
