“An evening from a bygone age”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

I took my son to see King Lear at this film theatre. The play was fantastic and the ambience calm and easy....a bit like going back in time. We had a great evening, only spoilt by the fact that the cafe staff were not allowed to serve anything cold from the fridge, no alcohol and only coffee and lukewarm bottles of water. This wouldn't stop me from visiting again though.

“Fantastic Independent Arthouse Cinema”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

This independent cinema is run as a not-for-profit by a team of enthusiastic volunteers.

There's a little kiosk selling cheap drinks, sweets, and ice-creams. The coffee is fresh percolated and the ice-creams are local.

The listings are made up of films that you won't get to see elsewhere peppered with the highest quality of general release films.

Its kinda hidden away in the basement of the Corn Exchange with the entrance opposite The Swan pub so you need to go looking for it but if you like films it is well worth it.

“Beautifully Quaint.”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

This is how cinema is supposed to be! The price is very good and if you are under 25 a ticket only cost around £3! They don't show the mainstream movies that you would see at Cineworld or the Odeon and thats a good thing. Its a little treasure in Ipswich which not enough people are taking advantage of. Give it a go, you will be converted.

“A little box of culture!”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Ipswich Film Theatre has gone through many changes of management over the years and currently it is owned by a group of stake-holders and essentially run as a charity. All of the ushers are enthusiastic volunteers. It is a very cosy and welcoming little cinema, leagues away from Odeon or VUE. There's always an interesting selection of films through the month and if you want an intimate, quiet cinema experience, without the rustle of popcorn, this is the place to be.
