Maytrees is a wonderful house. Tony and Janey are first class.
I stayed in the double room in Maytrees, it is a really big room, with great facilities. The bed is super comfy. I looked in the twin room which was to a very high standard as well.
Tony and Janey went out of their way to do everything they could for me. Including driving me to and from the marina at Shotley point both morning and evening.
The breakfasts were a very high quality, with local produce and eggs from their own chickens.
I couldn't recomend Maytrees enough. I will definitely be back.
Thank you Tony and Janey (and the chickens and cats)

Room Tip: Both rooms look great, I stayed in the double with the en suite, and it was brilliant.

We stayed one night on a cycling weekend in Suffolk, the accommodation was perfect for what we wanted, the bedroom was really lovely, well equipped and very clean, the breakfast had a fabulous selection and as everybody else has said nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, Janey drove us and picked us up from the Hub and Oyster as we couldn't face getting on our bikes again, I would highly recommend this B & B in this beautiful part of Suffolk, we will definitely return.

We stayed in the double room at Maytrees in February 2013 for one night on our way to a family party. I agree with everything said in other reviews about the high quality of the breakfast, with special diet catered for and a delicious fresh fruit salad and also the cleanliness of the room and the friendliness of both hosts. We felt extremely comfortable in the house but with one serious exception.
The en suite bathroom is SO small that it really was uncomfortable for my husband [ 6ft 2] to use the room. There is barely enough space to stand in and yet there is plenty of space in the room. I really would recommend that this is enlarged. Secondly, having a cancellation policy which means you pay the full fee if cancellation occurs within 5 days of date required seems excessive. The tiny en suite alone would mean we would not book the B+B again. The cancellation fee for an £80 per night room is difficult to justify. Shame, as this was otherwise a very good experience, but hopefully the hosts were genuine when they asked for honest feedback, as this means they can act on it.

Room Tip: The double room has an absoutely minute en suite, so you might be better off with the twin room with...

Dear Guest
We thank you for taking the time to provide feedback for our B&B. We value all honest reviews and we always endeavour to learn from the comments made by our guests.
We are sorry that you felt that the en-suite shower room was smaller than required. When we started the B&B enterprise four years ago we were unsure what volume of guests we would attract to our house, so consequently we adapted the original bedrooms without the need for major building work. We are aware that the size of the en-suite room is far from ideal and you have prompted us to have further discussions on this again. The bedroom itself has indeed plenty of space with the benefit of triple aspects, one of which would probably have to be lost to provide the enlarged en-suite. We will continue to discuss all permutations for this issue. It is unfortunate that you didn't mention this at the time of your stay as the twin room (with bathroom) was available and also as your relation had booked the room for you then you probably didn't view our website beforehand.
With respect to the cancellation policy I think that you will find that this is comparable with other local B&B and accommodation establishments. It is particularly frustrating turning away guests because we are fully booked ,only to find out at the last minute that the original guests have cancelled. It is akin to selling your car to the first buyer only later to be let down and other interested parties have already bought elsewhere. Other accommodation establishments also state that it is advisable for guests to purchase travel insurance to cover any eventualities where cancellation may be necessary. However in four years we have never needed to apply these terms and conditions and as a non competitive business we are always happy to discuss this payment with the guests. We do nevertheless normally retain the booking fee deposit if the guest cancels, although again with discussion with the guest we have in the past returned this if we have had a subsequent booking for that night or forwarded the money involved to a charity of their choice. We will continue to review the cancellation policy.
Thank you again for your honest review and comments and we hope that we may see you again in the future.

.....and nothing was too much trouble. Stayed one night to take my daughter to a sailing event at Alton Water but wished we'd had longer. We had the twin room "Orwell" which was comfortable, spacious, pretty and clean. The bathroom was next door but we had it all to ourselves as the other bedroom has an en-suite. Lots of thoughtful touches with toiletries in the bathroom and top quality tea/coffee in the bedroom. Lovely breakfast with fresh blackberries from a nearby hedgerow and fresh eggs from the resident hens. We'll definitely stay there again and will recommend it to our friends (unless it's when we want to go!)

Stayed one night for a wedding at Woolvestone Hall. Lovely room, Fabulous breakfast and very welcoming and accomodating hosts. The logistics of our trip were made much easier by the fact that Tony collected us at Midnight from the wedding and returned us to our car the next day. Would recommend highly to others. Lorna and Alex.
