“Lovely relaxing stay in the woods”
Reviewed 16 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Excellent holiday cottage in quiet wooded area, near two lovely villages with good restaurants. It was a very relaxing place to stay in, very comfortable with a wood burning stove, great outside seating area with BBQ, good shower room and bedroom. TV, broadband and DVD available. Mobile phone signal weak.
The owners live 100 yards away and were very helpful and approachable.

“Lovely.”
Reviewed 8 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We had a wonderful time staying at Souters for a week in August... very comfortable, great living space, nice shower, lovely garden area. We were working out there too and it was a great peaceful/secluded environment. The walk from the cottage via Higham and down along the Stour Valley Path was gorgeous too. Nick and Cath were very friendly and welcoming - highly recommended.

“Souters - So good we came back a second time and will stay again!”
Reviewed 4 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Souters is such a beautiful cottage, its a delightfully renovated barn, sunny and light and full of country charm and character, and so cosy and warm in the evenings, set in large secluded gardens, with a fantastic patio with chimnea and barbecue area to watch the sun go down - heaven!
We came in a hot July with golden fields of wheat and barley all around, had many river walks and boat trips at Dedham, visited the charming historic town of Hadleigh, and Frinton-on-Sea was great for a swim, a very beautiful part of the world. So much to do!
Nick and Cath provide a very warm welcome, with a lovely homemade cake on arrival and are very friendly and generous hosts. We will be back!

“Gem of a cottage”
Reviewed 28 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of August whilst my nephew played cricket at nearby Holbrook. The cottage ia real gem in a quiet secluded location. 3 adults stayed & the cottage was very spacious and well equipped with eveything you could want, the homemade cake & flowers on arrival were we a lovely touch. The weather was nice when we stayed & it was lovely to sit outdoors in the evening. Would definitely recommend the cottage & will hopefully be back next year if my nephew plays cricket down there again. Thanks again

“Fab little house”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 for a stay in October 2012

We booked a short break at Souters in October 2012 and were delighted with the property. Booking was via email and the owners were very helpful. The directions were good but we did still get a little lost and originally ended up going into the house next door!
The house itself is very well presented and has been beautifully renovated. There is underfloor heating throughout, which is particularly welcome in the colder months!
The main area of the house is the open plan lunge/kitchen area. There are two sofas and a wall mounted tv (a tab small but still nice to have) in the lounge area, a large dining table and chairs between the lounge/kitchen and the small kitchen has everything you would need for a short break (crockery, cutlery, pots/pans, tea, coffee, a few other kitchen essentials like oil etc.). There is also wifi available for guests to use. We were particularly pleased to find 6 home made scones and some delicious damson jelly on the dining table along with a beautiful bunch of flowers. This was a lovely touch and we really enjoyed the scones & jelly while we were there.
At the far end of the lounge there is a book shelf with a range of books and board games and a unit with a guestbook (worth a read, some good recommendations and reviews of nearby attractions/restaurants), a wide range of guide books/leaflets and some of Cath's delicious jams/jellies available for purchase. I bought 2 jars and they were equally as delicious as the damson jelly.
The bedroom is simple but cosy and comfortable, with a small wardrobe area. The bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower and again there is underfloor heating. Fresh towels are also provided.
There is an outside patio area surrounded by high trees/grassed area and there is a willow partition that offers guests privacy from the main house. The patio area has table, chairs and chiminea that we did not have the opportunity to use, but there is wood available for purchase in the lean-to/shed on the side of the house. There is also a washing machine, BBQ (I think there were BBQ coals available too) and sun loungers available for the guests.
You do need a car if visiting Souters (there is a car parking space) as it is off the beaten track, so to speak, and not within walking distance of any shops.
We had a really lovely stay and are booked in for another short trip in the summer of 2013, so I would definitely recommend this property if you are looking for a little hidden gem.
