“WONDERFUL WEDDING EXPERIENCE!!”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

My daughter recently had her wedding reception at this hotel, and we cannot fault a thing.
The staff worked so hard and efficiently. The food was just first class - that being the main meal and later on the buffet. The staff had decorated and arranged the room perfectly and it certainly had that WOW! factor as everybody entered. When the main meal was over, the whole room was totally transformed for the evenings entertainment in what seemed like minutes! You'd've never known that we had just had a fantastic meal moments before! At no time were the tables left full of empty glasses - the staff were super efficient at what they were doing. They were also very polite, comical and very helpful.Nothing was too much trouble. Everybody had a wonderful time, made that little bit extra special by the HOLIDAY INN, ORWELL.

Room Tip: Any - they're all brilliant!

Hotel was a little dated and tired, well worn in places but the room was adequate. Bathroom was mouldy in places and the fan did not work. Room was clean and tidy but we had requested the sofa bed to be made up, and it wasn't. However on asking again it was done immediately but it was very uncomfortable with the springs being close to thr surface of the matress. The breakfast was disappointing with the bacon and sausage appearing to be anaemic and possibly microwaved. The only eggs available were scrambled and were cold and dry. The breakfast menu boasted smoked and unsmoked bacon and fried and boiled eggs but none of these options were available Quite poor value for money. The reception staff were also not very welcoming and almost ignored us on arrival.
On the plus side, the location is very convenient, there is plenty of parking and the rooms are well sound insulated.

Our party of 8 stayed for 3nights and overall were pleased. The hotel decor is rather dated and a little tired, however there does seem a rumor of a makeover. Very quiet location considering the closeness to the A14 slip. There were several weddings but you wouldn't know. Food was adequate/not bad. There was some confusion over age of children for breakfast which may indicate a staff training issue.
The best thing was the fact that the well equipped Lloyds gym and pool were available to guests. Very clean and modern facility used by all the family.
All in a reasonable place to stay that offered value for money.

We booked through Superbreaks for a 2 night B&B deal. Including 1st night dinner.
Hotel was very comfortable and our room was very quiet despite the hotel's situation near A14 . Breakfasts were incredible with full choice of hot and cold options. All staff and management were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Hotel is apparently going to have a makeover shortly which should make it even better. Liked the generous lounge spaces and spacious dining room. Would definitely stay here again.

The Holiday Inn seemed the best option for a business meeting in Ipswich. I booked an Executive room. This added free Internet, bottle of water, Oreos, bathrobes, etc., but I don't think the room was any different to other rooms. Restaurant was fine. The two young people on duty did a magnificent job of managing the bar and the restaurant. Food and drink were served very quickly and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. All other staff were helpful and polite.

The hotel grounds looked amazing, looked a friendly, nice place to stay. The check -in did little to change my mind of this as the lady who checked us in was friendly, double checked some room details with her, such as breakfast being included in the rate.

The room was ok, nothing special, felt dated and tired, as did the reception area.

In the evening asked the guy at the reception for a bottle opener, was told to go to the bar, just to add some context as to why I needed it, I said that there wasn't one in the room and I wanted to open a bottle up there. His response was "well I don't have one behind here do I!".

The breakfast is woeful, poor quality food and not great at all for the price. Went down for breakfast the second day to be told breakfast wasn't included in the rate, thinking this was odd as I'd already checked it, went to reception where I was bluntly told that it wasn't included in the room rate and the receptionist who checked us in was new.

The guy at reception didn't wear a name tag, so complaining about someone offering poor customer service is hard, his tie was threadbear and tatty... just summed up the hotel. an absolutly aweful stay, and never has a hotel angered me so much! Customer Service = ZERO!

Out of town location on the a14 so good for business stops which is what I used it for. Plenty of free parking. Rooms and bathroom clean, hotel is generally looked after too. Water pressure for the showers is excellent - no trickle showers here! The tv choice is limited to a few terrestrial channels plus the odd sky channel. For some reason the reception.was really bad on almost all the channels - not sure how they are getting their signal. There is quite a bit of road noise from the a14, particularly in the mornings. This doesn't bother me but it might others. Beds are comfy with plenty of pillows, iron is provided in room too.

Food here is not good.on several levels. First, no room service option so you're obliged to eat in the restaurant. Second, breakfast is expensive and spartan. On my second night I took breakfast elsewhere. Third, the restaurant food quality is poor and over priced. I had a very watery and bland curry dish that frankly I could have cooked better myself, a pate starter and a pint of.cider all.of which set me back 25 quid. This is not isolated as I've eaten here before and was disappointed too. Things have not improved.

So in summary, if all you want is a nights sleep and don't need to eat or watch telly, this place will suffice. For business users this may be enough - I cannot recommend this for leisure trips and I certainly.would not spend my own money here. Even for business you would be better served across.the road at the adjacent Premier Inn.
