A brilliant weekend - more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel. Great nights sleep, great staff, great breakfast! Looking forward to our next visit.
This is an old coaching in that could be great. The owners are very friendly, nice people. The location is fine. The rooms are large and have some nice fittings such as good quality curtains and furniture. There is off street parking.
The downside is that it is not clean. The carpet in my room had not been hoovered. There were sticky marks on the surfaces and the teatray was dirty. The cups on the tea try were dirty and the spoon had not been cleaned since the last person used it. The tv did not work.
The worst thing though was the bedding. The sheets had hairs on them, including a pubic hair. UHHGGGGGHHHHH! I would have walked out immediately, but it was late and I had been up since 4am, so I wrapped myself up in towels from the bathroom as they looked ok and tried to sleep like that. I left the next morning although I had paid for 3 nights. There was no way I was staying another night. It was disgusting.
I told the owner in the morning why I was going and what the problem was. He apologised. I really think they should sack their cleaners and get some new ones, or at the very least check up after them to make sure they are doing their job properly. The hotel has the potential to be very nice but it is being badly let down at the moment.
We were here about a week, and it was very well. Nice, tidy and clean en-suite room with good facilities. Close to the town centre (10 minutes walk). The owners are very lovely and helpful, the staff is also very friendly. The food was amasing, we loved the chef's burger and the breakfast was plentiful. We would recommand this place for everybody who's wanna stay in a hospitable guesthouse.
Mac and Ann thank you for everything!!
i was very happy with our stay at the hotel it was very clean and the staff were very friendly
To get access to the hotel, we had to call a telephone number and wait for about 10 minutes for somebody to come and let us in! When booking we specifically asked for a smoking room and were told they only had 1. (This room by the way, is via a shop front...!) Ok, that's fine, we all know how it is for smokers. HOWEVER, what we were not told was that the smoking room is not only VERY cold but the smell of damp in there is overpowering. The hotel is a 3 star AA approved but this must be in regard to the bar / dining area and the rooms that are non-smoking which on the web site and in the brochure do look very nice. Certainly the room we stayed in was not 3 star. The bathroom was freezing (no heating in there at all), there was mould around the bath, the ceiling was collapsing and the shower was luke warm. (No complimentary toiletries by the way and no hair drier.) Although there was a storage heater in the room, it was not on and I couldn't get it to work. We did have another electric heater that the lady who let us in to the room immediately switched on for us. The beds....well, what can I say. Lumpy and bumpy is a polite way of describing the mattresses. The bed linen was quite nice though! As for the carpet....hmmm......stains stains and more stains! Breakfast was ok....when they finally realised that we were there! (The breakfast room was like walking into the Marie Celeste...) We were given a full english with one round of toast and a couple of packets of jam/marmalade, orange juice and tea/coffee. Although there was cereal in the room we were not offered it. This room is most certainly not worth anywhere near the £65 that we paid. On the plus side, the Portuguese lady Maria, was very nice and she did initially try and get us to go in a no smoking room. Maybe just maybe, the hotel will get around to renovating this room, as it sure needs it.
