“The usual high standards maintained”
Reviewed 12 November 2012

I have visited this hotel several times over the past five years and the standards never seem to vary. The reception is always welcoming, friendly and efficient. The room near to Reception (COPD problems) was waiting for me and, as always, spotless. The staff remembered me from a previous visit and ensured that I knew this - always a good sign. The barman was friendly and helpful and all in all this was another good visit. It was made even better by the fact that I had managed to procure my stay at an incredible £19 for the night. Yes, I'll be back again soon. It really is that good!

Room Tip: If you have a special requirement just let management know in advance.

Stayed here for 2 nights on 26th to 28th October myself, my husband and teenage son. The location of the hotel was excellent as we were in the area to attend a family party and we were central to everybody we needed to visit during our stay. We were on the first floor of the hotel on the side near to the motorway. We were concerned that we may be kept awake by the noise of the traffic however with the window shut (it was a very cold weekend) we could hear no noise whatsoever. The room had a heating/cooling unit. We used the heater on both days and this was excellent and warmed the room up very quickly, however the unit was probably a little old fashioned. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean. The double bed was extremely comfortable, my son's bed not quite as comfortable but to be fair we all slept very well. The TV in the room was also old fashioned and didnt pick up all the freeview channels that it should have. We may have been spoilt by a recent visit to a different Premier Inn that had flat screen TV's on the wall.

The breakfast on both days was excellent. The breakfast staff couldnt be faulted and despite the fact that the breakfast room was full on both days they had everything running like clockwork, nothing ran out and there was plenty available for everyone. My only issue was that the way the food was place I was unable to reach the back row as the unit is quite high up. I had to have help from my husband to reach the jams, muffins etc. I noticed other people having this problem too. We did not eat in the restaurant so are unable to comment on this.

I would have given this hotel 5/5 except for one issue. The way we were dealt with at check in was not as efficient as in previous hotels. The receptionist was busy checking in another couple so called another lady out to deal with us. This lady was quite abrupt on dealing with us. She did not mention the good night guarantee whatsoever and only mentioned booking breakfast as an afterthought. My son is 14 years old so qualifies for the free breakfast. However her question to me regarding my son and the free breakfast was "How old is the kid?" I did not think this an appropriate way of asking my son's age and thought this quite rude. We were then allocated our room on the ground floor. However when we got into the room it was not set up for a family room as booked. My husband went back to reception to complain and we were allocated a different room. This time he spoke to a different receptionist who was more helpful. Whist at reception he encountered another person complaining that he was travelling alone but had been checked into a room set up for 4 people! We also overheard another family at breakfast saying that they too were allocated a double room and not the family room they had booked.

All in all we had an excellent weekend at this hotel and would definitely return and recommend to others.

Stayed here for three nights whilst visiting family in the area. The hotel was fine for our requirements. Rooms were clean and spacious, staff were pleasant and helpful and there was free car parking. The bar/lrestaurant area was comfortable and altogether the place seemed more of a hotel than many of the other motel like premier inns we have stayed at. We had dinner in the restaurant on one evening, the service was average as was the food. Although it is advertised as being Stevenage central, it was only central to an industrial are and if you don't know the area was a little difficult to find. We would definitely stay here again.

Cannot fault this Premier Inn apart from two minor points, one being the room heating system, which is outdated and very loud. The second is the overpowering waiter in the Resturant who constantly tries to up sell anything he can. Apart from that great place to stay ( ask for a room at the front if the hotel) free parking, great staff and clean rooms

We have stayed at plenty of Premier inns which have been great. This one however was terrible for a number of reasons:
1.) The room was not set up as a family room as booked. We had to call reception to query it and they sent up a lady who then set up 2 more beds in the room; clearly not a family sized room like others we have stayed in. She bustled around us while we tried to stay out of her way and when she left, yes there were 2 more beds but all 3 beds were practically on top of each other.
2.) There was not air conditioning as stated meaning we had to keep our windows open to prevent my mother from having palpitations from the heat. This caused other problems as it was very noisy - traffic, planes, trains, staff out the back by the bins which our room overlooked (nice) and the depot next door early in the morning.
3.) Dinner was not nice. Mum was given raw mushrooms on her chicken burger?! The waiter was like someone from a market constantly pressuring us buy more food and drinks.
4.) Breakfast was a poor setup. Containers were left empty, juices did not have lids, you had to reach over bowls of fruit to reach cereals etc. and there were staff hovering around waiting for you to move so they could get things from the counter underneath. And what's more we realised afterwards that they had charged the under 16's for breakfast.

No-one asked us what our night was like otherwise we would have told them!
Overall a bitter disappointment - don't stay here.

p.s. the cracks in the bathroom tiles and mould in the grouting really topped it off!

we stay at this premier inn at christmas time (boxing day) and usually stay upto 3 days/nights,its excellent and easy to find from the m1. We have stayed here 4 times now and weve only ever had 1 problem with noise and that was when they had a few asian families staying for a wedding and the kids were running around on the landings but we got refunded for the 2 nights they were doing it over. The breakfasts are fantastic and hot ! and because we take our youngest he gets his free as he is under 16..Last year when we went they were suppose to have free wifi in the rooms but my son couldnt get the connection so he was a little dissappointed but we did have an email to say sorry this didnt happen but would look into it.The staff are excellent all very helpful and friendly..

Room Tip: Family rooms are fantastic and the space is great, not to cramped so you feel your on top of each ot...

Stayed at the hotel for a family meet up. I can only say how impressed I was with the staff throughout the hotel. They were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The service we received went far beyond what I have received in a four star hotel. Well worth a visit.
