My wife and I love Chinese buffet meals and have visited quite a few in our time. This was our first experience of buffet ordering (we're much more familiar with the 'help yourself' model) and to be honest found the process a bit confusing.
We visited the Jade Palace earlier this evening and were surprised at how busy it was at around 7 pm. From the point of view of an observer, the comings and goings of waiting staff with orders, drink and food looked chaotic, if not chaos!!!
Although there were times when service appeared slow, given the large number of tables that needed waiting on, in all fairness, the staff were as reasonably attended as one might have expected. I know there are a lot of reviews commenting on slow service, and although this is understandable to an extent, I felt that the waiting staff genuinely did their best for us.
I'd have to say that the food was 'average' - which is the overall rating I have give the restaurant. The portion sizes of the starter items were very small indeed, though reasonably tasty. The main course items were better sized portions, though I'd have to assume from the sizes provided that the restaurant expect to serve several main courses to each customer.
Do we plan on revisiting the restaurant in the near future? I'm afraid not - there are better Chinese restaurants in the immediate area and slightly further afield. If asked to go back, perhaps we'd go but not on a Saturday evening!!!
