Owner description: Remembering past sacrifice to inspire future generations. Many brave and selfless RNLI volunteers are remembered proudly in their local communities. However, the RNLI memorial sculpture in Poole is the only place where each and every one of them is named together. The RNLI hopes that future generations of lifeboat crew, lifeguards, supporters and fundraisers will find it a source of inspiration. Ultimately, the memorial reminds us all that there are still people who volunteer to carry out selfless acts of heroism to help others - we will always remember their sacrifice.

And there you were thinking that the RNLI needed your money to save lives. This mangled piece of metal is an eyesore and should never have been built :)

An arranged visit to the RNLI College included a viewing of the Memorial, which I found rather moving

I've been an RNLI member for 15 years and this makes me ask - why bother?

The RNLI centre is UK architecture at its worst.

The location of the building and its attendant statue is pure 1990s business park rather than 21st century altruism.

The site is wholly devoid of any soul or human dimension, it's a building and monument designed by committee. Contemporary bland at its worst.
