Owner description: Remembering past sacrifice to inspire future generations. Many brave and selfless RNLI volunteers are remembered proudly in their local communities. However, the RNLI memorial sculpture in Poole is the only place where each and every one of them is named together. The RNLI hopes that future generations of lifeboat crew, lifeguards, supporters and fundraisers will find it a source of inspiration. Ultimately, the memorial reminds us all that there are still people who volunteer to carry out selfless acts of heroism to help others - we will always remember their sacrifice.

“Sad memories of lost heroes”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Just at the top of the road to the RNLI College is the RNLI Memorial Sculpture,(floodlit at night),that pays tribute to all RNLI crew who have been lost in service. The list of names is far to long but it just goes to show that there are people,(HEROES),who are prepared to give their lives to help save total strangers at sea.Penlee is our adopted station,I can remember it as though it was yesterday,it"s 33 years ago! Please,no more names on the list.

“....and the point is?”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

I can't quite see the point of rating a monument such as this on Trip Advisor, but it's on here, so here goes....
For me it was humbling to see the names of those that have given their lives to save others at sea, especially the Penlee lifeboat crew who perished trying to save the (left it far too late to get help) crew of the Union Star. The names are written on the steel wave part of the monument... The sad thing is there is plenty of space left for more names! Hopefully with the better safer boats and training at the college opposite, few new names will be added.

“Humbling sculpture”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

What's not to like. This is an evocative sculpture dedicated to RNLI crews who have given their lives attempting to rescue others. Whilst there, visit the RNLI College and shop. About ten minutes walk from Poole Quay.
