“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2011

A wonderful place to stay. Un ultra comfortable bed, a fabulous view of the harbour, great buffet breakfast, polite, efficient staff...we wished we'd stayed longer.

Stayed for 2 nights in October. The staff were all excellent and very welcoming, the view from the rooms is great, the bed comfortable and the location excellent. You are only 10 minutes walk from Poole habourside. It was also very interesting to take the tour which showed you the primary purpose of the venue which is to train and support the RNLI volunteers.

The food at our evening meal was very good and we enjoying seeing the RNLI volunteers having a good time after all their training. Breakfast was plentiful with cooked, cereal, fruit and toast options. The only downside when we stayed was that the majority of the cooked breakfast was rather cold. On our second day we learnt to take the food from the back of the "hot" plates as this was warmer. The food was displayed on attractive white dishes under heated lights which looks much more attractive than the motorway service station style heated "buckets" but unfortunately it didn't work as well at keeping the food hot. this was the only blip and otherwise it would have been 5 (or even 6!) stars.

Dear Sweeney 1

Thank you for your review with tripadvisor and your very kind comments. The tours are offered every day by our fantastic team of volunteer tour guides and offer a great insight into RNLI history, the work of the RNLI, the work of the college and the crews and lifeguards who save lives at sea.

We have addressed the comments about breakfast hot food and appreciate your feed back.

Every £1 spent at RNLI College goes to help supporting saving lives at sea. It is really important to us that our crew, lifeguards, supporters and guests enjoy every aspect of their stay with us. We hope we can welcome you back in the near future.

About 44 people in our group stayed at the RNLI College in September 2011. We had a great time. Everyone was very impressed. The rooms, the views, the food and the service were outstanding. All the staff made us feel very special and welcome. It's so clean there too. What a great three days we had and where else would you want to stay other than at the College in Poole - its so close to the Quay and all the facilities. The parking is safe as well.

Spent a weekend here for our 20th wedding anniversary in Sept 2011. Lovely room, great restaurant (very reasonable prices), nice bar, good breakfast, excellent facilities, secure parking, and a short walk to the quayside. Had a lovely time and will definitely come again.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea (harbour) view - brilliant !

I have just returned from my fourth stay at the RNLI College and every stay has been characterised by outsanding service and hospitality.
The rooms have every item a first class hotel should provide with the added bonus of lovely views over the river!
A real pick-me up and pleasure and probably my favourite place to stay in Britain! Love it !

We stayed at the College at the end of July for 2 nights - Thursday & Friday - and have just returned from a second visit, again Thursday and Friday - brilliant!
As RNLI supporters of many years the opportunity to stay at the College is too good to miss, for a number of reasons. Every £1 you spend there goes to the charity, and across the board it is excellent value for money. As an active College, if you can stay there during the week you will see the RNLI volunteers and staff going about their business in a very professional way. At the weekends it sort of becomes a first class hotel with a difference.
The attitude of all the staff is excellent, the care taken in the design and presentation of the college is a lesson to so many organisations. The rooms are a combination of college room/hotel room - but of excellent fit and quality, better than many leading brand hotels.
The uniqueness of staying within the RNLI environment extends across the board, be it seeing the volunteers going out in the boats at the quayside, hearing the various accents of the attendees in the bar/restaurant, taking the guided tour of the extensive facilities.
Food quality is excellent, from breakfast through to evening meals - we particularly love the Holes Bay afternoon tea - excellent quality and very keenly priced.
We try to eat in whenever we can, maximising the help to the RNLI but really we just enjoy the ambience. Sit up in the Slipway Bar with your afternoon tea or pint, watch the happenings in the quay alongside - the way to relax.
If you are already an RNLI supporter, and haven't stayed at the College then you really are missing a treat - give them a ring and see when you can go. For non-members - become a member for the very reasonable fee, and give yourself the opportunity to stay somewhere just a bit different and contribute to an extremely worthy cause.
Check out the RNLI website for views/videos of the college.
We'll book again, probably early next year and look forward to a guaranteed enjoyable few days away.

Thank you very much for your very kind review with tripadvisor. I'm not sure what I can really add in reply to your review, as you seem to have captured all that we are trying to achieve!

RNLI College is the home for crew and lifeguard training. We strive to provide a 'home from home' for the remarkable volunteers during their training to save lives at sea.

We are always delighted to hear that our supporters enjoy a flavour of the crew experience. As you point out, every £ spent at RNLI College helps save lives at sea. Thank you.

really happy with a pre-ferry stop here, big airy room and public areas. Restaurant very good although limited choice on our late arrival, nice bottle of wine though. excellent choice at breakfast. staff really friendly.
parking is through barrier in enclosed parking bays, feels really secure which is great with a boot load of stuff heading to France.
will go again and maybe do the gat value two night deal to explore the Jurassic coast.

Room Tip: ask for open harbour view as ours was slightly restricted
