Been here twice now with Mates and now with my Girlfriend both times have had amazing meals, full of flavour, really authentic!
Great choice of meals and with Indian beers too!
Prices are very reasonable for the quality! Nice atmosphere with plenty of customers.
Staff were very friendly and helpful! Well worth a visit!

The food was excellent and good value.

The service was dreadful though - the staff just walk past you like you are invisible.
Good thing the food was good as there was no check back.
No recommendations made, no towels to wipe your hands, no offers of additional drinks and when I did ask for an additional drink it took ages to arrive as if it were a burden and as if it were below the waitor to get second drink because it's someone else's job to do so.
Bill took ages to arrive and then had to wait ages after that for credit card machine to be produced.
No thank you or goodbye upon leaving.

We went to Gate of India this weekend because we were in the area and looking for somewhere friendly with a good range of Indian food. We weren't disappointed. We arrived just as they opened at 6pm and were greeted by friendly faces and offered a choice of tables. The menu was straight forward and clear and we ordered easily. The drinks and food arrived quickly with more smiles and they were great at checking that we were ok. We had a rogan josh which was flavorful and with loads of succulent lamb; and a chicken passanda which was excellent. The only down side was that we didn't read the menu right and they didn't tell us one of our dishes came with rice anyway so we had too much rice; but that was our own fault. We stayed for almost two hours and were never pressured to leave even though when we did leave we realised there was a queue. All in all a really great experience.

Gate of India come out as being one the better restaurants in Poole. I tried it on a weekday evening in January. Restaurant was quiet when I arrived but soon became busier. Clearly Gate of India has a lot of people returning judging by the conversations and greetings between the staff and patrons.
I received a warm welcome from the staff who remained attentive throughout. They willingly adapted a dish for me without any problem. Food was very good without being exceptional. Prices reasonable.
Decor is traditional and looking a little worn in places.
This struck me as being a good, reliable and traditional Indian restaurant - no bells and whistles, just doing what it does, and doing it well.

Always great value and a good meal, bit quiet which surprised us for New Year's Eve which was as shame. Be back soon though!
