We stayed at the Sandbanks for our wedding anniversary 29th -31st july we were so disappointed with the state of the rooms and service at the hotel that we sent in a letter of complaint some 3 weeks ago , which the managing director and general manager havent even acknowledge . : (

The hotel gets away with charging the prices it does because of the location . will put letter on here soon .

Fantastic location, rooms were ok not as disappointing as some had mentioned, food was excellent as was restaurant service. Staff were all friendly although kids restaurant was a bit unorganised.

Kids entertainment was excellent, the best we've had. My kids loved itcalthough there wasn't much for our youngest (2yo) but the others were so occupied we got a rare chance to spend time alone with him.

Special mention to joker Joe, a true star with kids.

Attended conference at the Sandbanks Hotel from 7th-11th September 2011. Location fanstastic. Seaview room superb great hearing the sound of the waves at night. Food very good and the staff was very attentive. Hotel in an ideal location for a relaxing break, will definately re-visit.

We stayed on the harbour side, did not notice the road noise, had free WIFI and was able to log on to the office and work without hindrance, no charge.

Staff were very polite and attentive, must have got to the bar before the other guy as we were served swiftly. Head waiter was very polite and engaged with both my wife and I at breakfast every day. Lovely people.

Yes the hotel could be better staffed, ie more of them, but I don't think it hampered our stay in any way, food was mass catered as they catered for 60 + people, they do like their duck down there all a bit quakers really!

Defo go back, no complaints on our side

Room Tip: Can only speak for the harbour side rooms, lovely although we would probably try the other side next...

Although the location was obviously very good with a nice terrace and the staff themselves were very helpful and polite the hotel and our room was by no way a £200 a night room.

The walk to room, which so happened to be a long walk, was through corridors lined with stained carpet and walls with wallpaper pealing off. The room itself was a good size but the windows were dirty the blind was not much better. There was no Air Con so the room was very hot and difficult to sleep, there was no fan in the bathroom so it steamed up in 2mins, there wasn’t even a clock! We were also in a double fronted door room with what felt like paper thin walls and therefore was like being in the room next door. The room was itself clean but very basic, I would put it on a level with a premier inn.

The same group owns the other three hotels in the area and the age old saying of "location location location" probably dictates the rate being so high but would in hindsight stay closer to poole and stroll along the front to sandbanks in the day.

Just stayed at the Sandbanks Hotel 4 nights (7th – 11th September 2011) for a conference, we stayed in room 114 which overlooked the beach, we slept with the patio door open every night, you could hear the waves rolling, great night’s sleep, never stayed in an hotel in the UK that’s better for this. Beach side rooms are better than those on the opposite side which overlook the harbor etc; these rooms are subject to road noise so do not have the same effect.

That’s the good news!! However like the other contributors the rooms are tatty and in need of refurbishment not four/five star, you have to pay for Wi-Fi. Owning up here we did not pay the full price due to the conference, certainly would have been, way, overpriced otherwise.

The food was fine (the food could have been hotter) however a lot of people in our conference group so typical bulk catering, the breakfast was excellent, overall service was slow, but we were not going anywhere so it did not matter. The bar service was slow at times but nowadays what hotel fully staff’s a bar.

The savoir for this hotel is being right on the beach and the aforementioned waves lapping at night.

Would we go again Oh Yes - providing a beach side room was guaranteed?

Room Tip: Beach side only!!

Staff friendly, food good,a little shabby in places but what a location ! It's part of a small group of hotels in the area. If you prefer big impersonal hotels this probably is not for you, it has personality. Whether you stay beach or harbour side it really doesn`t matter, we stayed the latter side. We hope to return some time.

Room Tip: Don`t worry which side of the hotel you room ,it really is up to you
