“Nice place - needs some organistion though!”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Lovely location and a nice enough hotel for the price. We arrived on a very busy weekend and the reception staff (especially one lady with an Eastern European name - sorry, I forgot it!) were very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were small but we got a late cancellation and were only staying one night so weren't too worried about that. The hotel is right on the beach so couldnt be better located. My one complaint was the service on the terrace is not great. We ordered a coffee and it took 25 mins to arrive and they were not busy (as the girl behind the bar confirmed!). Sadly when it did arrived we were accused of moving table causing a delay - we hadn't moved. No apology for the delay was forthcoming and the chap who eventually served us the coffee was rude and surly - this from a member of the management team (older chap with a moustache). A simple apology would have sufficed but he couldn't be bothered to even do that. I would suggest a bit more training for the younger summer staff and for him.

Apart from that one blip, all was very nice and breakfast was great.

Having been critical of some previous changes involving the entertainment for the children and the general direction of the hotel, it has been great to return this week to a revitalised hotel.

The funsters are back applying their well known fun recipe, the kids are happy and the weather is set to return to a heat wave. The perfect set up for a great summer.

I would certainly hand it to the owner Mr Butterworth and his new management team, they have listened to the feedback, had the courage to go back on some previous decisions and created a wining formula again.

We are looking forward to coming back again August

Stayed here in June for couple of days to celebrate my birthday found the hotel lovely although under renovation, the parts that had been refurbished were very tasteful in décor, our room was large with fridge, iron and ironing board but décor in need of refreshing, however very clean (the hotel is large so work to this part of the hotel not yet reached). The breakfast is amazing and the view from restaurant beautiful. We found the staff to be very helpful and polite. The beach is beautiful and the walk along the prom to Bournemouth takes about 40mins. We went for a meal in The Café Shore in Sandbanks the food was excellent would highly recommend it. The only thing missing was local a pub it seems to be restaurants or hotel bars in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the block near reception as these may be refurbished.

Having received an offer via email, we decided we would take a short break and take our granddaughter away for a weekend. The hotel looked lovely and was well presented. On arrival, I would say the standard was slightly disappointing. Reception was busy, which is to be expected, however only 2 receptionists on, with 1 being on the telephone for a long time. No other people came to help, and so the queue grew.
We were on level 3, the one lift stops at level 2, and you climb stairs to get to next level, so not helpful if you have small children/elderly people in the party.
The room was very average but comfortable. Dirty patio windows and the balcony glass was filthy. Also our room overlooked a tarmac roof, where the seagulls met for a chat, so first thing in the morning was slightly noisey.
Breakfast - food was tasty and plenty of it, however, the staff were not friendly at all, not sure if they just didn't speak very good english or simply not happy?
The outside bar area was really nice -almost felt as though you were abroad. The best part was that you went straight onto the beach, which was brilliant. The beach is lovely and sandy, and excellent for the children. It was also great to be able to pop back into the hotel fora drink on the terrace.
The area is short of eating places in the evening, with the Sandbanks hotel really being the only place you could get a decent meal. We drove a few miles into Poole harbour and enjoyed fish and chips sitting in the harbour area.
All in all the trip was okay - I think the photos of the hotel had set my expectations slightly higher, but all in all, loved being away in the sunshine, splashing in the sea.

Room Tip: If you are on level 3, be aware that the lift, of which there is only one, goes no further than the...

Such a beautiful location let down by rude, young, inexperienced, ill trained staff, tired & dated decor and so many people they can't cope with demand.

We have stayed here so many times because our kids love the beach but this will be our last.

Our room was supposed to be refurbished but it had only had a lick of paint and new carpet. Bathroom hadn't been touched and bath was even rusty. All furniture was the same. Such a half hearted effort. Not good enough for £250 a night.

Staff were gob smackingly rude. Clearly not trained and didn't want to be there. No please or thank you. Lazy and no sense of urgency when the bar was 5 people deep. A wedding was on at the same time and they were going between the 2 bars. If I had paid to have my wedding here I would not have been happy.

The pool was closed yet again much to our children's disappointment. The ball pit out of order too.

The ONLY thing that saves this hotel is the children's entertainment run by kids who work hard and whom probably get paid appallingly.

In my opinion this hotel needs closing for a COMPLETE refurb to bring it in line with other £250 a night hotels.

I feel totally ripped off.

I have stayed in many hotels but have never come across such exceptional & consistent customer service from everyone!!
The location is just perfect & right on the beautiful sandy beach. Lots to visit in the area (there is a handy Tesco Express with cashpoint a few doors down). The sea view room with balcony was really spacious & had everything you needed, the small fridge came in handy with the hot weather we have been having & everything was very clean.
The food was excellent & I also had room service one night & I must say it was the best piece of steak I have ever had.
The staff really made you feel welcome & that you were the only guest in the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble & I can't wait to go again! Highly highly recommended!

I have stayed here countless times, and it used to be my favourite hotel. However, it is being allowed to slip down a few notches on the quality scale. Food and rooms are nice, but can no longer keep up with the higher standards of fjb's Haven Hotel. It is sad to watch the Sandbanks Hotel worsen, and I hope the manager and team get there act together before too many once good customers are lost. I would still stay here now, but only for short stays. Sometimes the staff aren't too friendly or helpful, they need to work on this if they want the hotel to return to it's former glory. Although slightly cheaper, I would pick the Haven over the Sandbanks if I had the choice, however the Sandbanks is more family friendly. I hope to see some
improvements soon, as this hotel has so much potential to be the best, like it once was.
