“Excellent service despite 'tired' surroundings”

It's the stunning location, excellent service from the hotel staff and the superb kids club that make up for the fact that this hotel could do with a good lick of paint and modernisation. My son cut his foot on a loose tile in the swimming pool, which I wasn't impressed with. However, he thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of activities put on for children of all ages.
The food was pretty good - although not cheap.
It's also worthwhile knowing you can use the faclities of the other two sister hotels, and there's also 30% off watersports activities, for hotel residents.

Room Tip: Lovely sea views available.

This time was most definitely the last.
We arrived at the hotel, checked in, had the keys handed over to us, and had to fend for ourselves to find our rooms: through the jungle of the kids' club with the organizers and their funky nicknames blaring through the microphones at children a mere few feet away, up the creaky stairs, through numerous unnecessary corridors that would make Hogwarts blush, before finding a hidden set of stairs that finally gives you access to the third floor.
Once you are in your room, you will be greeted by a most pleasant sight: a window with cobwebs that must have been left there from last year's Hallowe'en party and a thick layer of seagull dung. It was the exactly sort of vista I wanted to see after my long drive and did raise a concern: if this is the part they actually wanted me to see, should I fear for my life about eating from the kitchen?
All of the outside hotel bars were closed, which was a joy, lest I should want to soak in the ambiance of this once great hotel outside in the Sun.
My children later got hungry and, after realizing that it's eight quid for a mere cheese sandwich, I had to drive into town just to feed them. I had to do so for every meal as the food looked absolutely diabolical!
After nights were over and my children had had enough of sleeping on a sofa-bed that consisted of three different angles, we were are thrilled to finally be going home.
Upon checking out, we were insulted by the staff members in reception (I can only think that there is a big cross of cultures and loss of translation throughout the hotel, as the manners and etiquette of speaking to guests is abysmal and disgusting).
The part that amused me about the whole trip was when we arrived home, one of my children shouted 'Home! Sweet home!'

We pre booked an Afternoon cream tea for 3 as a birthday treat as the view from the terrace & reataurant is stunning . We arrived 10mins before the 4.00pm booking to be told by various staff to go to the bar to order . The bar staff sent us back to the inside bar. The girl behind the bar was checking a blister on her hand with several other members of staff & eventually acknowledged us. She couldnt find the booking but took our order & told us to go out on the terrace & come back & tell her the table number !!!! I would have expecteds to be shown to a table in this instance. The view was stunningas expected. After about 20 minutes same girl delivered the food to the grimey table - we waited for the accompanying pots of tea which after 10 minutes i has to go in search of - she 'forgot' tea was a necessary component in a 'Cream Tea'. - The food was very nice but the lacluster & disinterest of the staff spoilt the whole afternoon. We notices several other guests actually carrying their own tea trays from the bar As the 5/10 members of staff huddled behing both bars chatting. The seemed to be no management keeping an eye on the staff what so ever .No one came to check if we were enjoying our food or if we wanter more tea etc nor to clear the table - so we left after we had eaten ...... The stunning location on the beach is sorely let down by the general disinterest of the week end staff who seemed to be receiving no giudance to guest attention what so ever.I will be sending a copy of this to the Hotel management & the Group Head Office & sincerely hope they take notice & @up their Game ' customer service-wise immediately

Had a family weekend and the place as far as location goes was perfect. The staff did their best but there was an under current of poor management.

The hotel itself is past its sale by date and in need of significant renovation. It relys 100% on its unique location so have low expectations on room quality.

Best rooms are on 2nd floor overlooking the beach and sea. We were in room 415 which is their "Double Delux" or mini suite.

Food is great and dining room is OK but again let down by the furnishings.

Some other frustrations were the "disco" that runs from 9pm to 11pm. It's noising and because the air con system is a stretch and the windows need to be left open its annoying.

This place needs a good clean! Everything is unclean, the staff are amateur, all signs of poor management and no discipline !
You need to check your crockery, cutlery and the furniture you use for fear of using the last persons experience! The patios are covered in sand and albeit it's by the beach it's no excuse for poor standards! Management team- get out there and sort your venue out, poor effort frankly.

Setting is fantastic and beach and outside areas are kept very clean and tidy. Staff throughout hotel were very friendly, helpful and efficient. In places the hotel is very tired and in need of a face lift to warrant the prices.
The thing that really spoilt our stay was the noise though. Kids running down the corridor (it is very much a family hotel so take heed if planning a romantic stay) you can hear people in the room next door and also people walking in the rooms above.
Lovely setting but worst nights sleep in a hotel

I have to say we were very sadly disappointed with the Hotel - we arrived early so we could have lunch on the terrace as the sun was shining - the tables were dirty and there was no sign of them being cleaned before we ordered - we ordered drinks at the bar and then our food - half way through lunch we asked a waiter for another bottle of wine - we were promptly told sorry we don't serve tables go to the bar!!! Food score was average not just at lunch but also in the main dining room. We then had to virtually clear and clean our own table after lunch so we could enjoy the view without a table of empty plates! Our room had a bed just about 140cm wide and it was old - no safe, no hair dryer, no water and a kettle that went out of fashion in the late 70's. We had a sea view which was great but that was the best part. The hotel needs to be completely refurbished or knocked down and rebuilt as the location is stunning. We had four children with us aged 10 to 4 and none of them wanted to stay in the so called kids club as no one showed them any interest just children standing in a circle in the middle of the room - in the main dining room one of my friends said it was like being on a cruise ship in the 50's and wondered where the captains table was!!!!! A friend at the same time was staying in the sister hotel The Haven and said she was happy and the quaility and standard fron the Sandbanks Hotel was a lot better and it was half the price of the Sandbanks!!!!!! Yes did we just love the Dorset Coast and surrounding areas but it was painful paying a large bill feeling so disappointed. Next time either another Hotel/Hotel Group or The Haven.
