“Tres bien! Just like a little corner of France!”
Reviewed 19 May 2012 via mobile

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel du vin as part of our tour of southern England. From the very warm reception at check in to the gorgeous meal in the evening, everything was excellent. Unfortunately the Bistro was unavailable in the evening due to a private function, but we still had a lovely meal with excellent service in the Hotel's other dining room. However, we were able to enjoy a lovely breakfast in the Bistro, again with excellent service from very pleasant staff. Loved our first stay at a Hotel du Vin, we are definitely converts! I take note you have hotels in Glasgow and Edinburgh, can't wait!!!

This is an excellent hotel which I'm more than happy to recommend, but there's room for improvement, particularly for business travellers. So let's start with the positives...the rooms are immaculately clean, the staff are friendly and very helpful and the bathroom linen (which include a bath robe and flannels...well done for having both) are fluffy and fresh. It's also a pleasure to find small plastic cartons of milk in the fridge instead of those awful jiggers of UHT that so many hotels provide. The rooms are well decorated but to my mind very bland (lots of creams and browns) and lacking in character.. The beds are extremely comfortable with warm duvets, and the location ensures a peaceful night's sleep.

For a business traveller it was disappointing not to find a trouser press (although an iron an ironing board are provided). The guest car park is very small for so many guests and an extra charge of £10 a day is made for using it. The flat screen tv is modern, but the picture on it is poor to say the least (and the range of channels very limited, or in the case of one of my colleagues most weren't working at all). I also expect these days to find free unlimited wi-fi and the free offering is extremely restricted (mail, Facebook and the hotel's own website). The air conditioning/heating is also noisy to say the least and is better left off.

This is my second review of this hotel and it's still doesn't rate a 5, but as I said at the outset, I'm still more than happy to recommend it strongly to anyone visiting Poole.

We stayed for a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were all helpful and pleasant. By the very nature of the hotel it has some narrow corridors, which it you are carrying a large heavy case can be a bit of a struggle. Our room was clean and tidy and of a good size.
The location was very good just tucked down a small street off of the harbour.
The food was very good; perhaps the vegetables could have been a bit better.
If you are looking for old style look and feel, with modern touches then you can’t go far wrong. You might have to pay for parking, but sadly that seems to be more and more the case.
Would use again.

So rare to feel hotel staff genuinely want to go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be. We really felt that this weekend. Especially the restaurant staff, really friendly and knowledgable. Amazing steaks and cocktails. Only thing I could pick fault with was breakfast service was quite slow - not sure if this is normal or a one off - but when you're being cooked homemade waffles it's hard to get too upset. Thank you everyone we'll be back

We stayed at the Hotel du Vin for a weekend whilst exploring Poole and beyond to the Isle of Purbeck. We got a good rate for one night with lastminute.com for a superior double £90 and decided to extend to the 2nd night, not such a good deal with the hotel directly but worth it to stay for the weekend.

The hotel is near the Quay in a lovely quaint little street, a beautiful old building with a very nice bar and restaurant on the lower floor. We were given the Raul Collet Suite with seperate areas for the desk, bed and wardrobe. The room was good, as was the bathroom which was a good size and well fitted out.

In all a good hotel and allowing we could find a similar deal price we would stay again.

Each room in the Hotel Du Vin are creatively designed, with class, elegance and flavour. The public areas are just terrific with the artwork, furnishings, and original upholstery.

Food in the restaurant, all members of our wedding party agreed was delicious paired with excellent service from the Waiters and Waitresses working that night, in particular Claire who exceeded our needs and expectations of good customer service.

Wine tasting was an educational experience, and Chad led the activity well and was knowledgeable in his area of expertise. It is fantastic that the wine cellar can be viewed from the bar through a glass window, really showcasing the hotel's facilities and USP - Wine.

Disappointing treatment from the Event Planner, Thomas was the only thing that let us and the bridge/groom down. On arrival, he was not present to meet us as planned, and so not entirely sure where we were going or what the plan was, the supposed role of Thomas. As we moved through, we saw him in the bar meeting other clients - this gave the impression he is only really interested until the payment's made, especially when there was not any acknowledgement throughout the day from him even passing us at one point! At Dinner, the menu plan he had said he'd draw up was nowhere to be found leaving it to Claire and her team to pick up the pieces. Even the photographer admitted she felt embarrassed for the hotel.

Apart from this, the Hotel Du Vin is definitely recommended to all looking for somewhere to stay, eat or celebrate!

My husband and I were lucky enough to be given a voucher for Afternoon Tea at Hotel du Vin by my sister. We booked the day before and when we arrived, the staff were extremely welcoming. They had prepared us a lovely seating area and served us up teas of our choice followed by a fine selection of sandwiches and various cakes and fruit scones and loaves! So much, in fact, that we had to ask for a 'doggy bag' to take them home! They were far too delicious to leave! A wonderful treat.
